  1. I heal quickly myself, but a back tattoo is another story. My love handle area... ouch! A really tender spot. I can sleep on either side and I wear a loose button shirt. I take something extra for pain with a back or rib tattoo anyway. I'm a chronic pain patient for a neck and back injury so I have the stuff if I need to take it.
  2. I like to pick up a little thing for my artist if I see something that would look cool in her shop. I've gotten some artists toys for their cats.
  3. I was going to have my back worked on last night, but it was still tender from the shading of last week. She knew I wanted an old demon head covered up on my bicep, so we went with that. Took like 3 hours with all the BSing back and forth, cutting a stencil from something already drawn up.
  4. I'm a frequent flyer in the shop I go to. She treats me well and once in a while charges me too little, so I tell her so and give her a great tip. Last night I was having a cover up done on an old piece of work, we made some of it up as we went along. Line out an element, clean it up, sit back and look at it, proceed. That is priceless.
  5. I have a new GF that likes tattoos. She was there for both of my back sessions and one last night. She hit it off well withy my artist and she's welcome. She's getting her first tattoo soon. Totally supportive so far and I've known her maybe 10 weeks. There was someone in the shop recently, this couple were dating for a few months and had some sort of blow up ensued between them, the lady called her BF selfish to get a tattoo. Hope he punches the clock on that one quickly.
  6. I had a back outline done recently, had it wrapped up the first night. 2nd night I wore a shirt to bed. I spent some time on my back and it wasn't bad.
  7. Old tattoos can be touched up, or have something new blasted over it. I've done both. One artist I know, she's almost an albino and never goes in the sun. Her stuff looks new, all of it.
  8. My back outline is about 10 days old and doing okay. Most of the peeling is done and it gets a little itchy. If my girl friend is around she puts something on it for me. I can do it with a long plastic kitchen spoon pretty well. I just got a jar of Hustle Butter on Amazon. I used a tube of it once on my foot and it healed nicely. Good for general after care at any time.
  9. With my back piece, I'm going to bring a couple of couch cushions, small ones. The neck pillow is still handy. Now I have been bringing my new girl friend and she and my artist hit it off. She's Italian so she always brings something.
  10. I had a neck MRI done last Friday and had a new tattoo on my back, close by. They said it wasn't a problem. The tattoo is still there. When I was in the hospital last October with heart surgery, I was in a coma for almost 5 days. I was known as the tanned tattooed guy. Like some lump in the bed with tubes going in and out.
  11. I see some customers struggling to pay the shop minimum for a small tattoo. I'd be surprised if they gave anything extra. I have a new girl friend, she likes tattoos and was there for my back piece last week. She always brings something. Iced coffees, donuts, chocolates to give out to everyone.
  12. I'm doing a large back piece, 2nd session is on 11/2. A month after the outline. Which should let it heal totally.
  13. Yeah, she's good to me so I have no complaints. Talk about numbers. Her birthday is one digit off from my late wife's birthday in years, months and days. Sort of like it was meant to be, Fate.
  14. 3 hours in the chair last night. Shading is next. Maybe some coloring if time permits.
  15. I have a new girl friend! She's my age, nice looking, we're on the same page with politics and lots of other things. She's also a bit of a gym rat like me and takes care of herself. She digs tattoos and is considering her first one. I'll have to see how it goes, but were having fun. I'm getting a tattoo started tomorrow night and she's going to stop in for a while.
  16. I'm not doing too badly lately. I feel good, heart surgery saved my ass and it will be a year on Saturday. Getting tattooed tomorrow night. My bad isn't nearly as some on here. I have a new girl friend, my age, really nice and she digs tattooed guys. We were relaxing at a local motel a couple of weeks back. Taking a lunch break, I was getting into bed while holding a sandwich. I had my left hand on the mattress and it slipped off. Down I went... with not a stitch on. Scraped my left forearm and was bleeding all over. It even ripped some tattoo off. Towards the wrist it is still tender but the swelling is down. I had a lump on my left knee the size of a golf ball immediately. It went down quickly, that too is still tender. AND I must have bent back my pinky toe on my left foot. It is sore, swelled up and also across all my toes. The color is back to normal but it hurts like hell on the toe and behind it. I may have to bite the bullet and get an xray. I'll be pissed if they put a cast on it.
  17. I'm starting a battle royale back piece tomorrow, not my whole back since my shoulders already have work on them. The size is 13" x 13" and hopefully I'll get it lined and partially shaded. The artist made up a composite with the design pasted onto my back.
  18. I love summer. I can always find a way to cool off. Now it seems to be fading away... sad. It always goes too fast and winter drags on too long.
  19. I have 2 foot tattoos and the latest one is big. The first one did not heal well and needed a touch up. I went right to work the next day, had a telfa pad over it but it slipped down. The last one I was off (in December) and wore flip flops for a solid week. It healed nicely. Pain wise both were fine during and after. A small one may be okay to walk around with after.
  20. I had some rib work done, 1st session on the biggest piece was not bad, I was medicated. Same level of medication on the 2nd session... but it was murder. Good thing it only took an hour. Most of the work was below the previous session, maybe it was a touchy area for me.
  21. This is a conception of what's coming up in September. My artist took a picture of my back and slapped a design over it.
  22. I have had 25 year old tattoos gone over and made fresh again. The minimum for a touch up would be 2-3 weeks depending on a few factors. My 2nd sessions are usually done after 2 weeks.
