Yep, the center of the flowers are where it looks the roughest all right--mostly because I think it's where the artist went the deepest to cover the black underneath (the flowers are a cover-up). Thanks though, it's interesting to hear that people react differently to different ink colors. :-)

Hi! It's not bumpy or inflamed in any way. It was just my camera angle I think. It's mostly scaly and wrinkled. And also, it doesn't itch or feel hot or anything--I'm assuming an allergic reaction probably does? In the off chance that this might be an allergic reaction, what did you do to remedy yours? And how did it affect the end result of the tattoo design? Thanks!

Whew, that's a relief! Didn't know the healing process took that long. Most sites I read on the subject said it took around a month for the tattoo to "look" fully healed and the skin back to normal. I was also using my black and gray kitty tat for comparison, since that healed pretty quickly. I guess colored ink heals much slower on my skin. Thanks so much, good to learn from actual people who have been through it and know what they're talking about. ?

Hey guys, I know I've posted about my tat too much, but I swear this is the last. ? I just want to know if it's normal for a part of a tattoo to heal much slower than the rest. It's been a month and a week, and my tat still looks dull and scaly in most parts. Like there are bits of shiny dead skin on top that look like they're going to fall off but never do. I moisturize with Cetaphil unscented lotion 2 to 3 times a day and have always kept it out of the sun. I'm okay if this is the final stage of how it's going to look. Just want to make sure that I'm not doing anything wrong to hinder proper healing.

Yah, Tim Burton's Alice was actually what I had in mind when you mentioned the cheshire cat idea. ? I like the pics you posted above! My next piece is definitely going to go towards the illustrative/cartoon style.

I went through the same dilemma as you over a month ago! I got a black and gray tat last December and was so dissatisified with it. 3 weeks ago I had it reworked/partially covered up with bold red flowers. To answer your question, the artist managed to do it by working in the color with the old black and gray design. She was also honest with me and said it won't be 100% perfect since black is pretty hard to cover up. She also said my tat wasn't TOO black luckily so it was possible to cover. My advice is to take your time and find an artist who is not only good but will take the time to really asses and listen to you. ?

Not an expert but I don't see anything bad about it. It's a nice design and looks cleanly done. What exactly do you hate about it?

No final idea yet on my next tattoo design--but I DO know it's going to be another catattoo OR something inspired by Tim Burton or Neil Gaiman (I've been in love with their dark and whimsical style since I was a kid). I want to take my time with my next tattoo and not rush it--I mean I love my tattoo now that it's fixed, but I wouldn't have had to fix it in the first place if I had taken more time before I had it done. Do post a pic of your sleeve when it's done! The Alice in Wonderland theme sounds awesome--what style/interpretation did you go for? ?

Wow, I love it!! It would certainly tie in the two concepts nicely together. I'll definitely run the idea by the tattoo artist next time I consult for my new tattoo. My only concern is that the cat is probably too small for such a subtle detail to make an impact, but I want to know what she thinks anyway. Thanks! ?

Hi guys, just want to ask if it's normal for a colored tattoo to become lighter while healing? My new tattoo is dark red in color and it has begun to peel this past few days which I know is normal. But the fresh skin underneath is much lighter than the surface peeling off--almost pink to be honest. Will it return to the original dark red once it is fully healed? FYI, it is one week old and I've been taking good care of it by not picking and keeping it moisturized with unscented lotion. Thanks!

Haha thanks! I post quite a lot as I can't really get feedback from friends and family--half doesn't care or does not have any interest in tattoos while the other half straight up hates ink. So I barely get any constructive opinions.

Yup the artist also told me not to attempt to put any color in it in the future, because the style was already in black and gray. I like the juxtaposition as well--I was just worried that it looked weird since I don't see this style a lot (not on small designs anyway). Hey guys, I've posted many times about my tattoo dilemma. Yesterday i finally got the partial cover up I've been wanting. :-) As per my plan it was less a cover up and more of framing the bottom of my original tattoo because I wasn't happy with the bottom half of the design. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out to be honest. I like the dark red shade of the flowers. I like it so much in fact that I'm wondering if I should have just covered up the whole thing with red flowers for consistency. Right now it's black and gray mixed with color. I like the contrasting styles but I'm worried that it makes the cat face look unfinished and faded next to the bold red flowers. Thoughts?
