Allright, you weren't joking. Had my first two days this wekend;  the back is horrific to work on. And outlining on the back of the thighs... the pain was near indescribable. Made the arse, spine and back part of the ribs pale by comparison.
All of you are utter beasts for doing this purely by machine. I cannot even fathom.

Have a few months before my next session, hopefully I'll completely forget about what this weekend was like by then.

I use coconut oil for moistuzing all year long. Get the refined kind if scent is an issue. When my skin is —really— dry I use Palmers Cocoa Butter. It has a distinct cocoa scent, though, so that may not be an option for you. However, it’s one of the few lotions that doesn’t make my skin itch or burn AND it’s cheap. Edited to add: I am fairly certain that I’m allergic to lanolin, which is what’s causing the itching and burning mentioned above. I also get a remarkable red rash from wool socks!

First two days I use Aquaphor, light coating when it's dry. Then I switch to Cetaphil, which doesn't contain lanolin, which is a wool-derived product used in almost all moisterizers.

I hate this stuff. Part of the experience is the vibe. I get that artists are human, too but the not having time to draw is a red flag. WHO SAYS THAT OUT LOUD? Can you drop by the shop? Explain that the situation made you uncomfortable? If not, then if you really were excited to have this person make something for you, do it. Me, I would tend towards the latter. 

And you've paid a deposit and you've got an appointment date.  Go ahead, but if they cancel again, I'd ask for the deposit back and make a stink if they don't give it. 
Not having time to draw the tattoo is a bullshit excuse for cancelling since they had 3 month's notice.

Yeah, if they're cancelling on you and then can't match up a suitable date (especially after you burned up a vacation day) then you should be offered your deposit back. The "no time to draw" excuse doesn't sound too professional.

I've been getting tattoos for about 11 years now but really started getting into it heavily in the last 2 years. I've found a love for traditional tattoos and have been dedicating most of my free canvas to that style. I look forward to sharing photos and getting to know you all!

What does "refuses to let me grow as an artist" mean? He won't let you tattoo customers? Unfortunately it's his shop and his rules. If your teacher really feels you are ready, they should talk to the shop owner. Can you bring in friends to work on? It would seem that if you bring in business and show that you can do quality tattoos, he'd have no reason not to let you work on walk-ins.

Adulting is hard. Handle professionally, with respect and use this as an opportunity to reset your relationship with him. Find out what his expectations are, setup a path to achieve and propose items that you think will help you, him and the shop. ?
