  1. All these questions and concerns can be answered by your tattooer. As for how to prepare for the tattoo, just get lots of sleep the day before and stay hydrated throughout the day and during the tattoo. Eat breakfast. Wear shorts that are comfortable and that you can move around easily with. I wore a bathing suit for both of my thigh pieces. I also wore tight underwear to be sure my balls didnt pop out or something, as my last piece was pretty close to my crotch. Both of my thigh pieces were 6 hour + sessions.
  2. It shouldnt be more difficult to tattoo than any other design out there. Typically they will take the image you give them and use it as a stencil, so they dont need to actually "understand" the language in order to tattoo it.
  3. Its not rude to ask your tattooer for their rate. It is rude to ask various artists for prices on a design and price hunt. Show that you intent to get tattooed by the artist you want and ask for price once everything else is done. I always ask how much the tattoo will be, but I do it last. If you hear artists complain, its from people who price hunt and dont really want a tattoo, they just want a deal. Tattoo prices vary, based on so many different factors. Only the artist doing the tattoo can tell you how much a design will be.
  4. Sounds like a question for your tattoo artist.
  5. This thread is over a year old, as are the other topics you've responded to most recently. No need to ressurect it. The discussion is over.
  6. Looks good to me. Nice and clean. Really depends what you want, tho.
  7. For sure! Its interesting, because your dilemma is the dilemma that many Japanese people face. Tattoos are still demonized is allot of Japanese circles, especially within the world of business and government. I can imagine allot of the people featured in these photos would love to be fully covered, but are unable to. We are a bit more fortunate here in the west.
  8. Its strange. I admire the opposite. Theres something so appealing to me about the "modest" bodysuit design. By modest I mean full back, full front with the "river" down the front, just above the knee and just before the elbow, with one main image on the back and one accompaning images on each thigh and each shoulder. I think in the west, tattoos have become sortof trite because we wear tattoos so boldly and outwordly. It looses that speacial something. I like the idea of being in control of your situation at all times, to be a tattooed person when you decide to reveal yourself. You can carry this secret side to yourself that not many people would know about. Not only that but I find it fits the body so much more naturally. Theres something about the suit stoppingvat the hands feet and neck that looks unatural to me. Not sure how I can describe it. If I could start all over id go with the modest bodysuit design for sure, as apposed to the American one-point style bodysuit Im heading towards at thr moment. I still love my tattoos, but I appreciatethe Japanese philosophy much more.
  9. Great post and great tattoos. My healing process is almost identicle to yours, altho I use saniderm on the first day, just because I hate dealing with meat bandages and tape haha
  10. Good idea. If you arent sure, just ask him if he thinks $400 will be enough for what you want. He knows what his designs are worth.
  11. I always ask for the price, as I need to know how much to bring. I always ask it last, tho, after everything is sorted out and the appointment is made and the design and placement are chosen. I just say, "How much do you think it will be? I want to know how much to bring with me." or "I want to known how much to set asside." Doesnt have to be any more complicated than that. If youve already shown that youre comitted to getting the tattoo, you shouldnt feel bad about asking for price. If you hear artists complain about it, its usually from clients who are price hunting and dont have any real intention of getting tattooed by them. If he doesnt respond to emails give the shop a quick call.
  12. Wish I could attend, but my plane arrives Saturday at 7:00 Pm. Sounds like it would be fun, tho!
  13. There's no need to start 4 threads on the same subject. You could continue the conversation in one of the other threads you've started, or simply ask the tattooer that you plan on going to to get tattooed.
  14. I doubt it. From what understand, it only appears on the edge because thats where its pulling on the skin the most, and the friction caused by the constand pulling is what causes blisters. Bacteria doesnt cause blisters from what I understand, but a broken blister is a good opportunity for bacteria to get in.
  15. Same thing happened to me a week ago where I had tegaderm on a very mobile part of my upper thigh. The blisters havent gone away yet. Unsure if they will scar. In the past Ive experienced irritation and cuts from normal tape when my artist bandaged my chest. Its just sonething that happens when adhesive is put over mobile parts of your skin. The cuts lasted a while but didnt scar.
  16. Mr. Dave Cummings just sent me this sketch for my arm in Montreal. The 2 x's are my elbow and ditch. Beyond stoked.
  17. Took the tegaderm off this afternoon. I put it on Sunday midday and took it off wednesday midday. Looks great! Fairly painless removal, paper thin flakes. The only issue is I have big cutout areas where my skin got irritated by the tegaderm, but strangely its only on my upper thigh. Im guessing these are friction blisters. Im going to guess they will scar. Thank god they arent on the tattoo.
  18. Thanks for the reply. Its doing fine now. The swelling is gone and its not hot. The edge of one of the tegaderm pieces near my crotch got really irritated and left a big red mark. I rolled it back some and put a new piece ontop, which I applied poorly and had to tape down the edges with water proof medical tape. Figures. Ir does a good job of keeping water out of it while I shower tho. This is on day 4 now and I plan on taking it off tomorrow. There is hardly any fluid underneath this time, strangely. Probably because I left the first bandage on for 13 hours, and it finished seeping. Hopefully it hardens up overnight.
  19. This thread is great. Ive ordered over 20 books in the last few months in search of information and it can be difficult to find. If I could read Japanese It'd be much less difficult! I have just ordered Kojiki and Japanese Mythology. As far as books I own that have useless information, I dont have much. Mostly picture books of tattoos and Ukiyo-e. Most of my information comes from tattooers or the internet. Id be cool if we could start a Last Sparrow refference club and discuss/recommend books /documentaries/images with each other. My library is a decent size and I feel I have enough obscure books/refference to be able to add something to the conversation. Im not sure how much intrest there would be in that, tho.
  20. This is what I do, and what was told to me by the saniderm website. I put on one piece right after the tattoo and leave it on for 8-24 hours. Then I remove that bandage, clean off all the gore with soap and water, let it airdry for 10 minutes or so and then apply a fresh bandage and leave it on for 4 or 5 days. You could use a normal tattoo meat bandage the first day as well, which is what tattooers normally do, but saniderm is a more comfortable option, personally. The first bandage, essentially, is to keep the new tattoo safe and to let all the blood, ink and plasma seep out, and saniderm does a good job of keeping all the juice in there and everything else out. Atleast this is my impression. I know people that take off their first bandage within hours, but Ive always left it on atleast overnight, whether it be sanider or meat bandage. As for 48 hours Im not sure. Ive never left my first bandage on for more than 12.
  21. I wouldnt worry about it. Even if it does hurt, the wrist is such a small area that it wouldnt last long.
  22. So I had to run to the pharmacy and bought some tegaderm. They only had the smaller pads so I had to do piece work over this tattoo on my thigh that I got yesterday. This is the second bandage. I took the first one off this a bit before applying this one. There are allot of overlapping areas to make it fit. Should I be fine? Are the areas where its overlapping 1 or 2 times not able to breathe because of the extra layers? Right now it feels pretty warm to the touch.
  23. Just got this hannya giesha from Jeremy Lamos on my thigh. So happy with it. The actual tattoo didnt take long but it was a long sit. Felt pretty sick by the end of it. Had allot of fun with the eyes.
  24. Anybody had experience with using saniderm for the first bandage and then crossing over to tegaderm for the next 5 days? My recent tattoo is much bigger than I thought and Ive run out of Saniderm. Do I need to use ointment for tegaderm or is it essentially the same experience as saniderm?
