Is no one selling tattoo magazines anymore? I remember that they used to be filled with a pretty diverse array of styles in each issue.

It's going from bad to worse rapidly.

man, those guys didn't live in the 80's/early 90's when it was cool to just have a tattoo. i like looking through old photos at the shop of dudes with unicorns and stuff that people would never think of getting now unless it was some ironic version of it. shit i've got a pretty terrible cresent moon with a face in it on my shoulder. terrible stuff. ahahahaha
i do like though when a guy wants a panther or something tough and then they look at the colors i have out and say "what's the pink for?" hahahaha

I decided against the coffee, because I didn't want to amp myself up too much. Figured it would be easier to stay calm this way. So, I got there a few minutes after she opened, and she had another client getting ready to sit down. I asked her if I could talk to her for a minute, and she came over to the side and I quietly explained the situation. I did it quietly so as not to alarm the other client or make him think she doesn't do good work. I showed her where the star was uneven, and she agreed that the best way to make it all even was to fill it in all black. She was very understanding, and I made sure to explain to her from the start that I was not angry or upset and nor was I planning to drop her as my artist. We both remained calm and reasonable and were able to reach an agreement without either one of us becoming upset. I'm very glad we did, and this makes me want to stick with her even more. I have an appointment for some other work this coming Tuesday, and she said she would have time to go over the star then. I'm just so glad that it went well. It's a tough call asking an artist to cover their own work, but she was reasonable and understanding about the whole thing and I feel very lucky to be able to have her as an artist. It takes a strong person to be able to look at their mistakes and say, "yeah, I messed up, but I'll make it right".

Not sure you need our advice if you're happy with who you're working with. DC has a good number of fine tattooers.

Hi everyone thanks for letting me join this sight. I'm not only new to this sight but also new to the tattoo world. I always wanted one but was worried I would eventually hate it because at 18 years old my taste was alot different than it is now at 36. When my mom passed away recently I finally knew that a tattoo in her memory was one I would never get tired of or wish I hadn't done I got it Jan. Of this year. After realizing it didn't hurt like I feared it would I got my 2nd tattoo on Feb.27th it my daughter's name. Well I hope to learn things and talk to others about there experiences. Thanks for letting me join. If there is anything I can help with feel free to ask.

Trees remind me of black metal

Look at portfolios at these shops and talk to artists!
These are the ones I know and would think about getting work from myself....

My first tattoo was a butterfly.......and it started an obsession that has lasted 30 years and counting!
I was also very lucky because I started out with a very solid and talented tattoo artist to do my first tattoo and didn't even realize it!

Co-signed! Gabriel is for sure a good suggestion and there's definitely plenty of folks in that area that are more than capable.
I mean its not like we're talking about some tiny town in the middle of the country that's 2 hours from a major city.

Its time to go in to shops and start to check out them out. You might find more photos and possibly examples of folks work that is exactly what you're looking for...not everything end up on the internet. I've said it before but use it as a tool to narrow stuff down which you have. Now see which person you go talk to can accomplish your goal. There's plenty of capable folks in the areas you've mentioned. If its meaningful, it'll be worth all the effort involved.
