That it is, and I have even seen it happen...but no one complained. 1994, late, maybe like November, and I'm on a flight from Frankfurt to O'Scare. They call the flight, weather is shitty, pretty borderline, and as we all sit down-I'm like 3 or 4 rows into economy-this freaking stench pervades the air. I don't mean it smelled, I mean stench. LEt's see...I don't know how many of y'all are old enuf to have participated in any of the various hot-weather hot-spots, but if you cover carbon-based life forms with debris and silt and let them sit in the sun, or bake in a basement for a few months, then you know the smell I'm talking about. You taste it in the back of your throat. Anyhow, they had just boarded a group of Croatians on their way out of Bosnia-Herzegovina, and apparently they had been hiding-out in a group of basements under a shopping district, and had come with basically the clothes they had on. Poor bastards smelled so bad the flies were trying to get away from them. Flight attendants did what they could, people were taking clothes out of carry-on bags and giving them to them...and ya know, these people sat in an isolation waiting point in Stuttgart for however long, so that they didn't get away and become a burden on the locals...andcouldn't even get access to a showqer-point.

There are racists of every color, Whites don't have a lock on it. Unfortunately, anyone who evinces any pride in being White is villified immediately.

The Ickes...The Harold Ickes Homes. They're mostly torn down now, making way for yuppie condos, but in their day, they were what's known as a "half-block, maybe" neighborhood. That's how far a White person on foot could expect to get, unless they were a known drug-customer. ALtegeld Gardens is a low-rise PJ, but probably worse, foot for foot, than the Ickes ever were.

Tolerance is a wonderful thing. Next time one of y'all want to share the love, c'mon to Chicago and I'll take you for a stroll through the Ickes or Altgeld Gardens. And I hate to be a downer this early in the morning, but take a look at this.... snopes.com: Obnoxious Airline Passengers

Glad 'yall are enjoying these...I will try to get another 20 pages up today or tomorrow. Bikers, sailors, and convicts, ya know?! When I started getting tattooed, that was pretty much the clientele. Oh, not exclusively, but damn near. I remember that CTC had club colors on the wall that they put onto new members of the club-I'm not gonna say which one, but it wasn't a Chicago-based club, and you could usually find a motorsickle or two in the area. A lot of that work, if you look closely, is prison-made. There is some really excellent stuff given the conditions and equipment. The not-so-good stuff you see? Well, all you gots to do is look at the backpage ad for S&R to explain that! Anyhow, I guess those times sum up the way I look at my work. It's a testament to places and faces, runs and fun, fights and bad times, just a life lived. If a line isn't perfect, or there's a tiny flaw in the color, well shit, that's life. - - - Updated - - - That's goodie, Kyle! Always got a kick out of "Old Town Tattoo"...if he had called it "in the middle of the ghetto tattoo", no one would have gone near it, but sure nuff, Larrabee n Armitage was a good ways out of Old Town.

Short attention span and a pain-in-the-ass scanning setup. I'm gonna post the front and back cover, and about 20 pages, and see if y'all think it's worth doing. There are A LOT of pages in the mag, so it may be better if I scanned it into a PDF and gave it to an admin to set-up as a download? - - - Updated - - - - - - Updated - - - - - - Updated - - - - - - Updated - - - - - - Updated - - -

Alte Kemptener Dunkel Weiss for a dark beer, Santhofen's Weiss Hirsch Weiss for a light (colored) beer. There are none finer.

Ribs are just so AWESOME to get tattooed! My left side was just north of four hours, and I just loved every second of it. Not. You're really getting the good stuff there...next time I got to Europe I might have to sneak out for a weekend in London.

@slayer...my religion requires me to be tattooed. -
@SStu, this stuff was way yonder stronger than Bactine. I will find out what it was and let you know.
-
From what Nick told me, this is sposed to be the coming thing...lotsa people can't deal with a little ouch to get some work in, and this stuff helps.

You mean my poor old panther is outdated? Hey-it's not "neo-trad" or anything like that, just old!!!

No peppermint in the stuff I'm talking about. Str8, it's a topical anesthetic. Not sure if it's what the OP meant by "magic soap", but it sure felt magical to me!

Fat people with tattoos: Your thoughts
Dan S replied to Delicious's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
Well, I was never into dresses, but I do have a pretty nice stash of leather and suede-fronted knits, and some roach killers left, along with my original Cabretta. -
Rummaging around in the shop tonight, and took down one of my binders of old Easyriders mags. Leafing through it-the issues in it were from 1980, shortly before they sold-out and became a porno rag with never-ridden show bikes-I came across an issue devoted soley to tattoo photos people sent in. What a rush. Really, took me back to the day...some of the pix go back into the 60's and some, the style or design is really apparent. Lots of work by Cliff Raven in there, pages of cards from different shops, all kindsa good stuff. I guess I need some guidance from Lochlan on this...I can scan a lot of it in and make it into a PDF, but where do we hit copyright infringement? The company that published it is long out of business, but did the company that bought it inherit the copyrights? I'll scan the pages of cards, those are essentially ads, so there shouldn't be an issue with them. Admins, ponder on this, and if you think it's okay, I wll start working on it. Hellluva view of motorsickle culture back in the day. Might even start the argifying about tattooing swastikas again!

As far as being denied a job because you are a colored person, I do believe that would be grounds for a nice, hefty discrimination suit. -
No, I do believe it's a reference to a new type of product that contains a topical anaesthetic. Nick used it on me when he was doiing my ribs, and it was tits. A spray-cleaner type thing, with the advantage of giving you a few minutes of almost numb time while you're being worked on. Doesn't completely kill the ouch, but sure nuff cuts it down. Actually, made me feel the sissy for letting him use it, but to quote Nick, "look at you-you've got nothing to prove to anyone!" I don't think tattooing should EVER be totally painless, but hey-a little help never hurt!
