New to this forum and about to get my first tattoo...! :-)

makes sense. artists definitely love free reign with a balance of direction. not sure how detailed Danny is, but it would be a bummer for any artist to draw up a color study only to hear that the client wants black and gray. there is definitely a method to design line work so it can be turned into color OR black and gray, but I feel like designing for one or the other from the get go allows them to use different techniques or tricks. then again, if he didn't insist, you could probably trust he knows what he's doing... whether it's creating a flexible design or a color piece that's so good you can't say no. some artists definitely prefer either color or black and gray, but I don't think that should play into your decision... you should wear what you want! think hard, make the right decision (hopefully sooner than later), and as you said... don't pester your artist. =) can't wait to see how it turns out! -

welcome! I hadn't heard of Danny Rossiter before, but he definitely does some nice work. As far as black and gray vs color... I feel like that should be discussed before the artist starts their drawing, no? I feel like that could have an impact on certain design elements. I guess it's not absolutely critical. -
my wife and i walked in there a few years back and she didn't like the vibe. they have a vintage clothing shop on one side and a tattoo shop on the other. there's plenty of great shops on the area... this might help: http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/general-tattoo-discussion/3532-shops-pacific-northwest.html

I have a strong feeling the client walked in, said "can I get something like this?" and handed the artist this reference from Chad Koeplinger...

The only thing better than an actual monmon cat tattoo would me an actual monmon CAT! These mythical creatures probably only wander the streets of japan, the mind of Horitomo, or the dreams of LSTers.

there was a dude at the SFO convention who's collecting a squid pant leg of lady heads from different artists. i don't know if he has 'em elsewhere, but he had some nice work going, from what i saw. does anyone know if he's on here, without me sifting thru this whole 28 page thread? sorry for my laziness, but i'd love to see 'em!

one of the prominent tattoo sayings is "go big or go home." the back is the place to go the biggest! I would bet most artists would advise you to get a big back piece and I tend to trust the artist's opinions. I personally think the full back piece thread is one of the best on here! but, as it's been stated before on this thread... your tattoos are your own and that's one of the main things that makes it great. do what makes you happy!!

i'm imagining a funny scene of LSTers just strolling around the convention blurting "SQUIDPANTS" like they got Tourette's or walking up to a group of non-LSTers saying "squidpants" and getting a completely blank and awkward stare. -

i'll for sure be wandering around on Friday with a camera and brown canvas backpack. not sure if i'm gonna make it Saturday and Sunday, but it's highly likely. think it'd annoy the artist if a meet location was by someone with a set appointment? saw that @embers has an appointment with Bryan Burk on Friday... just a thought. -

don't fight it! take advantage of it!! ;) - - - Updated - - - get there as early as you can on Friday... browse the artists and portfolios. if you find someone you like, ask if they have any time available thru the weekend. If you bring down a cooler full of Dick's Deluxes, perhaps I can drop a few tips on a some great artists who are likely to have walk-ups. -
i think having the clients vote for the worst tattoo is a pretty rough idea. i understand they've chosen to get a free tattoo from some random ass artist who they don't get to pick and it's basically a crap shoot, but then to have all the other clients sit in a circle and talk shit about the tattoo you JUST got... still oozing... that's just gotta suck. "hey! our tattoos suck, but YOURS is definitely the worst." at least, before, the unknowing clients could go home and enjoy their bad tattoos until they saw it on TV getting torn apart by the judges.

I don't believe they have pre-order tix and they don't raise the price on the day of the convention. I can't remember if there's a cheaper price for weekend pass , tho. -
