i love the mash up of styles on a body
nothing against those who go for the full back piece or bodysuits
but for me - i just love the mix of styles and content
after you get enough tattoos on ya - it really doesnt matter what you get imo
that said - it helps if you're getting tattooed by solid tattooers

My right bicep is healing nicely. We'll have a few places to touch up, but I'm ready to do the next part! June 30 seems too far away.

I was, too. I very rarely like portrait tattoos. So very happy I took the gamble after seeing his other work (he does not have much past work in a similar style) & talking to him about it on FB to start with. I guess it was his enthusiasm about the idea that convinced me initially, and he really did deliver more than I had dared to hope!

You've got yourself a good one there. Really happy for you. I'm always a little nervous about portraits. I can think of maybe one guy I'd let do a portrait on me, and I will get one from him one of these days — Chris Jones from Physical Graffiti in Cardiff. He's going to do a Johnny Cash portrait tattoo on me. I've talked to him about it after we became friends on Facebook. Anyway, WOO HOO! Over the moon for you!

3 weeks till my appointment, my first time having something more complicated drawn up for me, so excited and a bit apprehensive to see the design :)
Should cover most of my lower back, more geometric blackwork and Studio Ghibli movie references.

Freddie Mercury. I'm dying to see the initial sketch, my artist has been incredibly nice so far so I'd be even more bummed if I didn't like it.

I agree and do the same--if you know the tattooer well it's fun to give a personalized gift on top of a cash tip. I have done most of the above, particularly prints (ukiyo-e is my go-to), but I also frequently give tattooers reference books that I think they'd appreciate, whether it's on a particular style/region or a different medium/art form that I think they'd like. It's always hard to predict what's already in their library, but based on chatting with them I try to get books on art that they're stoked on that I think they might not have yet.

Sometimes time can be a little tight and it's a nice favor to run out and buy the person a coffee or a meal afterwards.

And sign him up to be a Maker's Mark Ambassador - it costs nothing to do, they put your name on a barrel plate and after about 7 years you get invited to the factory when the open the barrel and you get to hand-dip two bottles. And, every year they send you a gift during the Christmas holidays.

Funny rereading this thread. I figure there are alot of artist asking each other the same question. 'how much should i charge?'.
One of the best feelings is when a artist is very enthustiastic about your idea. You can feel the magic. And it seems they charge you less

@agadan93 definitely something you should discuss with your artist like marley mission said. I actually think your Goofy would be great in a sleeve like the one you posted (and no, it's not really considered the same style at all but some mash ups do work great, subject to the artist's ability and vision of course). I like weird stuff though and some tattoo purists would probably consider it an abomination :), but your body, your tattoo! Not sure if I like the balloon and the cloud in this kind of a context, at least in the style the images you posted were, but the background/filler type cloud in the sleeve you posted could work better?
If you are thinking of building up a sleeve but are not completing it straight away, you really need to think what elements/images you want to include before filling up valuable space, and most people would get those before connecting the single tattoos with the background/filler.
Who is your artist? I'm also getting a new one on the 10th, can't wait!
