Occasionally I see something that just baffles me in nature as to someone's ingenuity or amazes me that a room full of marketing people agreed that ___ product or ad is suitable. I think I have to get one of these just for the sake of putting on my phone immediately prior to going into the grocery store or airport. I don't even really know anything about manga or care but this is pretty damn funny. Sorry ladies please don't be offended. I know more than a couple of tattooers who also get the same type of treatment done as me. In fact it was a fellow tattooer than turned me onto it. I developed repetitive stress syndrome (who would've thought that holding/grasping a tiny jackhammer while you make hundreds of thousands of tiny tiny circles every single day would cause a type of arthritis?) and get treatments that cover each forearm hand and wrist in needles; about 20 on each limb. Occasionally a giant one into the tippy top crown of my head. That one always feels really interesting when it gets tapped in.

I completely agree. I've been getting acupuncture done on and off for the last 10 years or so, and I'm definitely in the 'can't avoid it' category. I've never had any problems. Can I derail for a second and say how awesome my last acupuncture guy was? When I was on my first visit to his office I was looking through his portfolio in the lobby (when have you ever seen a doctor with a portfolio before) and on one page it showed pictures of a surgery being done in Japan when he was working in a hospital where one of his roles was being an anesthesiologist. This patient was getting brain surgery done while he was awake but with receptors being blocked; literally cap peeled back but fully alert and smiling as he sips some water or eats a bite of apple. Mind blown, no pun intended.

Totally missed this! Wow this would've been crucial this last summer/fall cross country tattoo shop/skatepark road trip. I have exhausted any new music options and sick of everything I already have so I went with audio books. All the Wizard of Oz series for a buck, not bad. This would've been a good one as well.

Oh I've got a few, some laughable some not, but I'm definitely not ashamed of this one First tattoo I ever did, at Tux's studio in '99. I was so nervous telling him & his wife the night before; I asked them to meet me for coffee and got it off my chest that I was ready to do this. He tried to talk me out of it by mentioning no heath benefits, no retirement pay, high-risk occupation, "why don't you be a vet or something, much easier. That's what Alex Herman did after quitting the biz". I could not be swayed. So he said"OK, show up at the shop tmrw and you can tattoo yourself". That really surprised me, I was not expecting that. I was prepared for "what the fuck, you shouldn't be doing this get the hell outta my sight". He had a legit rep for being rather brash and didn't pull punches. Chased a few people out of the shop looking for apprenticeships. When I got there I realized I had no idea what to put on myself. That part had not even crossed my mind, just "Holy shit Tux is gonna let me tattoo myself". So I said, "what should I pick?" He handed me this one and said "That's the first one I did on myself" which may or may not be true (once upon a long time ago he did the borneo scorpion on Higgs and told him he drew it himself hahaha what a classic fibber) but I didn't ask twice. He set up 2 Percy Waters, loud as hell, told me they were worth more than my life, showed me some basic info and turned me loose. That was one of the most exciting moments ever up to that point in my tattoo experiences. Best design ever? no. Best job ever? No. Some good blowouts? Yup. Something I'm proud of? Most definitely.

^Tess please don't apologize, no need to. You've been a decent recent member to the spot here. I wasn't really talking about you, or this thread specifically. Just my thoughts on how things naturally change, and I hope everyone that read my post sees that I am not saying anything bad or negative about this forum. I believe everything I said about LST itself was still positive. And thank you to the people that said nice things about me. I do try to be helpful it's just weary sometimes. I keep falling into the trap of trying to save people from their own selves just like Tux did for me when I first started getting tattooed and my shitty ideas and designs that I thought were super awesome. It's mostly just because I try to be nice to other people. I do try, really. Edit; Tess I just saw that you aren't exactly 'recent'. My point still stands that imo you are a great contributor.

There are some interesting points brought up here, some I agree with and some I respectfully don't, but I have to agree with @Graeme in that we don't need to be talking about hand or finger tattoos on this forum and for the same reason he mentioned. That brings me to a thread de-railing topic. It is the nature of things and people to evolve, everything around us in life and in the digital world is evidence. Not always a bad thing, but often brings about mixed blessings. This forum is evolving and in its own way that is/was the point of it, to talk about and educate people about good tattooing. The initiation thread has been blowing up with new members constantly and that's a great thing to see because it shows the amount of people that are interested in learning more about good tattooing, or (although fewer and fewer) people with vast amounts of experience and information come to share it. It is a positive thing to try to help fairly new people to tattooing learn about topics that they might not know about yet, just out of sheer ignorance(The word ignorance not to be taken in a negative light). It's great that there is a place for people to share this kind of information with each other. But personally for me it is rapidly evolving into me sitting at the front desk telling every single customer the bad news they don't want to hear. This is a topic that I've been doing for years and years and years and pretty much still tell people every single day in real life. It is becoming more difficult to want to participate when all I'm doing is basically saying the same thing I do every single damn day to people. This forum has been kind of a refuge for me when I wanted to escape the bullshit questions that I face all the time by people who like I said just don't know better yet. This place was almost all professional tattooers and or people who were heavily tattooed, which is what was the appeal to me. The number of professional tattooers that still post here has been dwindling at a fast clip over the last year or so. And I think I know some of the reasons why without having to ask them. One reason is "busy working" but that's not what I'm talking about. Hogg, I know you have asked us to save you from hearing "this place ain't the same anymore" (although it is undeniably true) but I am trying to show that there is a positive side to this evolution. Like I said it is merely just mixed blessings, not something BAD. I'm just a little bummed because it's evolving into an animal that I probably wouldn't of been interested in if I were a recent arrival. Thanks for letting me soapbox for a minute. I still like a lot of you people.

I don't see too much wrong with it either, but your first post consisted of 'fix it to make it better' which kind of implies you don't like it or are unhappy with it. Pretty sure posts following that were only because of how you worded it is all.

There is a small small number or tattooers who can properly put in a palm tattoo, and I've never seen any bottom of finger tattoos attempted by any of them.

The OP has the bottom side of the finger tattooed, not the top of the hand or the top of the knuckles like in that picture you posted. Entirely different type of skin. That tattoo looks like it will age better then some other ones I've seen, but who knows? A lot of the stuff that's being done right now with dotwork is more advanced than what had been done before with it (it's not a new thing) but the nature of people skin will never change. I am certainly not going to second-guess what the artist in the picture that you posted did because it looks very clean and it looks like they've had plenty of experience applying that type of tattooing. I don't know who the artist is but that's relatively unimportant in the discussion. The picture from the OP was an artist with less than 1/10 that skill level based on that messed up crooked O and none of the conscience of a responsible tattooer for obvious reasons. And yes underside of a finger regardless of who did it is a bad idea period.

They blew that out nicely for you. I'm honestly sorry to tell you this but you're kind of screwed. Nothing about that is going to fade in the sense that it will uniformly fade and look good or entirely disappear. You'll probably lose some of that but hold on to some of it which means you'll just have a gray smudgy dirty looking part of your finger for the rest your life. When I say THE REST OF YOUR LIFE that's really real. You will get accustomed to it at some point or another, but that will still be kind of weird looking bruise on the inside of your finger when you hit 40. This is the epitome of irresponsible tattooing. Your tattooer should never have done this; even if he warned you that this would happen and had you said "I want it anyway" he should not have done it anyway simply on that principle. Please know that I am not being mean or disrespectful to you, I am honestly just saying what I would tell any customer that came in the door with that. It's your tattooer that I am talking about.

@spookyluke All we (the forum) are asking you to do is not post homemade tattoos or ask advice. You haven't asked for advice so I'm relieved for that. It's a simple house rule and should be no problem to accommodate. I wouldn't come into your house and do something relatively simple you asked me not to do. It's just a respect thing and even if you feel bristled up by other responses you can read this and know I'm not being a dick or anything, just asking you to come correct and respect the forum.
