  1. not sure to be honest. i have 2 friends that worked for her, but i havent seen or heard from them in ten or more years. the big easy seems to just suck people up and keep them in some sort of limbo.
  2. painting Don Nolan did to put on his back, but the tattoo never happened. at some point in time some moisture got in there and fucked it up a little. still ill. I have a better pic of it but this should suffice for now.
  3. his story about Jackie went something like this; "you heard of this lady named Jackie?" "yeah! from New Orleans. she was like the first black person to own a shop (as far as i know at least) and one of the first black ladies to tattoo as well!" "yeah well when she came in my shop a bunch of years back i told her 'i dont think women should tattoo, and i dont like n____s, so you should probably turn around and gtfo' " yeah i felt pretty dumb after that for my initial enthusiasm. gotta learn when to keep my trap shut.
  4. Guy named Jack Witt. Used to work on The Pike back in the 60s and early 70s. Moved east in mid-70s and opened up shop in Savannah about 35 or 36 years ago. Not the most PC of people, but idk too many tattooers from his age that are. He has a lot of history to share, and hair-raising stories of The Pike and his days as a HA in the 60s. Deb briefly met him, but with not a great impression from what she said here.
  5. i like tattooing skin that isnt all muscle and ripped. usually easier to put a stencil just for starters. just my 2 cents.
  6. every tattoo i've seen of his looks bulletproof.
  7. Yeah I've never emailed those guys, I just call when I want to make a trip down.
  8. The only person I know that has actually met him has absolutely nothing at all good to say about him. Used to beat up his shopkid/apprentice, bullied him into spotting him & his roided out buddies while they were working out(the kid would never be able to actually spot the amount of weight they were pushing), kept horrible care of a bunch of animals in his basement, etc. Ha, out of all the things Jack told me about Roy Boy, the most distaste he had was that Roy Boy was a 'smut peddler' at conventions back in the 80s. Personally, the shit with the animals is what bothers me the most.
  9. I was forced to watch an episode of this. Absolutely appalling. I wanted to throw my tv through the window. Also, I can't stand it when people talk around the toothpick they have in their mouth. Pick your teeth or throw it out. Must be some sort of oral fixation that I don't understand.
  10. scanned from Kyosai's Demon of Painting book *apparently I can't post larger pics. http://i43.tinypic.com/11hqf0y.jpg
  11. Wilson tattoo wins every time. Fast or not. That being said, he did a huge backpiece sized Pharoah's horses on my buddy that took a rough total of around 6 hours between 2 sittings. So yeah, fast.
  12. I completely agree. Hand poke outline even. Was truly interesting to see. But to sit through 25 minutes of "look at the gangsters I'm broing down with" and "whoa I'm so hungover" was pretty difficult.
  13. Sean Avery i should've donated all my old cd's to this guy.
  14. Brian Dettmer uses knives, tweezers and surgical tools. interview
  15. I only saw one episode, when he goes to get some tebori done, and it was mostly "look how drunk I'm getting!" and then 5 minutes of tattooing at the very end of the show. Maybe it was just that one episode, but after that I was completely disinterested.
  16. Ha, true. Yeah well, pretty much any DeVita story I've heard is a good one. I'm just glad I have one or two personal ones of my own. Surely there is a link somewhere for the magic bell story?
  17. He is not officially retired, but doesnt tattoo a whole lot. Sometimes at conventions, and sometimes by referral at his house in Newburgh, NY. Hudson River Valley area. Beautiful place. Legend for sure.
  18. I see what you are saying, but I don't feel the need to explain myself to a client. I've used that one on many occasions but it completely falls on deaf ears. Shit, some of the hair treatments some of these ladies get cost about $200+ every couple of months, but the same customer will still get upset about our minimum price name. I am not going to take my time & energy to try to change someone's opinion or rationalize my prices if they can't pony up the minmum price (believe me its CHEAP) for a simple damn cookie-cutter name at a street shop.
  19. Looking at Bert's artist hours makes me jealous. 10-6? 12-6pm? That would be great. Last 2 weeks I havent spent less than 11 hrs at work each day, up to 13 on the weekends. Ridiculous.
  20. I was looking at an issue of TAM the other day and had to laugh the photo (which i did already post a while back) of the exact same spot the picture here was taken Johnny Anderson, Capt. Jim, Jimbo Any photos or clippings I have posted here should all get due credit to Jack Witt, (besides the obvious TAM pages I scanned for this) so anyone that posts them on your own blog or whatever, please try to make mention of that. Thanks.
