Avery, Dan Santoro did my elbow. After trying to put on a stencil several times and not liking the result, he just drew it on. -

A little update, I got a cool flower coming out of a "skin split" by Dave Cummings to fill in the last big spot on my right arm. It 's super nice and old school. He tapped into his apprentice roots to bust this one out! -
So here a a couple of pictures of what I got on my west coast trip. They are all healed up now. The dragon is by Jeff Rassier of Black Heart Tattoo. Juan Puente did the sugar skull at the same shop, an hour later! The week after I got Stuart Cripwell to do the moth. While I was a Spider Murphy's I picked up their flash book which is quite beautiful as well as getting two new sheets of flash. I just got the sheets home from the frame shop. They look awesome on my wall! The three tattooers were super friendly, I would highly recommend all three of them for your tattoo needs!

I got my first tattoo when I was 24. I really didn't know anything and ended up getting a three session swallow, a little smaller than the size of an uncrustable. My next couple got better, and then I heard the Gallows. Who would have thought, but Frank Carter pretty much gave a list of many of the whose who of tattooing. Been traveling to collect awesome work since then! I'll be thirty this week, and I think that with a sleeve and a quarter I'm just getting started!

Art tattoo show montreal 2012

I'm also planning on stopping by. I don't think that I'll get tattooed as I just got some new ones at the end of July. I have been two years running and it seems to be getting better each time! -
I figured that while in California I should look up some other shop locations. Who knew that Spider Murphys was not too far from S.F?!? I just booked in with Stuart Cripwell for one of his great moths. This trip is going to be awesome!

I just booked two appointments at BlackHeart in S.F. I'm going to get a Zeis style dragon from Jeff on my left forearm, and a day of the dead skull on my right inner bicep from Juan. I'm impressed that both Scott and Tim are pretty well booked solid 5 weeks ahead of time! I'm in on the 26th of July and super stoked about it. After that I've got a week to enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of the city.

I was at smith street a few months ago. I asked a couple of the guys about stars and dots; Eli says that the other guys do it better than he does (maybe he just doesn't like doing it) and Steve says get all your big pieces done, then get one person to do all the fill. That way it will all match up. It doesn't sound like it takes that long to do. Good luck.

Hi all, As it turns out I live really close to PSC tattoo. In looking at their website I saw Dave Cummings' portfolio. He and the other Dave both seem to have done some cool looking tattoos! I was just wondering if anybody has had any work done by him or at the shop? The photos can't lie, but since I have learned more about tattooing I enjoy knowing a bit more about the artists. Dave Cummings – PSC Tattoo Thanks, Sam

Tattoo silhouette and negative space

I found this thread to be pretty interesting as well. I started a thread about star and dot filler and got some cool imput. Here's the link http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/tattoo-101/1649-fill-not-fill-space-between.html I'd love to keep this topic going! -

I've been on a bit of a spree, 7 tattoos since the end of July! I just got tattooed by Eli at smith street. I've now got work from all of the guys at the shop. -
Hey folks thanks for the cool pictures and good advice. Getting it all done at once is a really good idea, gives me something to think about for a while. I've got room to fill still so I'll go from there.

Hi all, I was wondering what your opinions were when it comes to filling in the spaces between old school style tattoos? Stars and dots, shading or let each piece stand on it`s own? Any photos of what you love or hate would be appreciated. Have a good one.

So, how often would you get tattooed? Supposing of course that you could afford it, and could get appointments with artists that interested you. I have been known to get a little obsessed with things that I am passionate about. I've gotten work done five times since mid July. I am sorely tempted to get more!

I remember grinning broadly when I stumbled upon a photo of Frank Carter's praying hands tattoo. The hands are holding a microphone. It was the first time I had seen a non-traditional version and was truly astounded. I wish I cold find the picture.

I've never had a real problem with itching until I got my chest done. The hair growing back is insane! I toughed it out until it healed and now can scratch gently, sweet relief!

It's funny how some tattooers are really fast and others so slow. I have an owl on my forearm that took about four hours and I have a tattoo on my chest three times as big that took a little over 4 hours. The chest kind of sucked towards the end, but I got the chest piece in one sitting deal! I wonder if the experience is different for larger tattoos? If there is more surface area being worked on I would think that the pain might be lessened allowing a longer session...

I'm finding this thread quite interesting. When I started getting tattooed I was not particularly well informed, but I had a good idea of what I wanted. I started with my inner-forearms. I figured, if I'm getting these cool tattoos why shouldn't other people get to enjoy them as well? I work as a carpenter, so that is not a field where people judge you too harshly on appearance, more on competence. Reading about the warped tour body suit made me laugh. I'm not there at all, in fact if I wear a hoodie I appear un-tattooed. But in reading and looking at tattooed folk I've started working my way up, gives a more balanced look. Just got my chest done, you can't see that one at all with a t-shirt on. So I'm starting to see the appeal of semi private tattoos as well.

I've got seven and a half. swallow, wolf head, eagle head, tiger head, owl, panther vs. snake and a gypsy moth (which I figure counts as half for the moth part, unless insects don't count). None of them are smoking though. Is there a such thing as too many heads? Maybe I need to start getting bodies tattooed.
