  1. If they come here and ask for opinions, that shows that they're different from most 16-year-olds (whom you accurately describe in your other post). I like to think of LST as a place where people of all ages can get great advice. If they don't wanna follow it, then they're free to enjoy their shitty tattoo. (No shots)
  2. Nice intro. Welcome to LST!
  3. If you're going to work on oil rigs, you could make a nice chunk of change. I know you don't want to hear this, but you should wait to get tattooed. Look around this site and see what's possible. Work on the rigs for a while, make some money, and pay for something you'll be stoked on for life. As for first tattoos on the forearm, here's more advice you don't wanna hear: that's terrible place to start a Japanese sleeve. ALL Japanese sleeves start at the top of the arm, not the other way around.
  4. Tough stuff, @gougetheeyes! I dig it. And @Kev, I've often thought the same. My wife's first tattoo was on her lower back and she was very pleasantly surprised at how easy every other spot has been.
  5. I cosign all of the above. One of the best things about getting my back done by Jill Bonny is that I got to hang out at State of Grace on a regular basis. Over time, Taki and I got to know each other, and in addition to everything Stewart said, I can add that he's a great guy, loyal to a fault, and with as much integrity as anyone I've ever met. I'm sure that this project will be nothing short of mindblowing.
  6. You've always been one of the more thoughtful posters here, @Deb Yarian. We're happy to have you post as often as you'd like.
  7. Nice outline. Welcome to LST!
  8. Dana Helmuth is in Baltimore. Between him and Brian Bruno, you have choices of two very different but equally awesome variations on Japanese style tattooing.
  9. Thank you, @Shannon Shirley and @Stewart Robson for starting this thread and adding to it. I agree that part of what attracted me to LST is that some of my favorite artists posted here, along with other artists that I've come to be familiar with thanks to LST. And the passionate, knowledgable collectors here are unrivaled. I'd love to see more great tattooers post here. I know that Jojo Ackermann, Bryan Burk, Juan Puente, Mario Desa, Nick Colella, Doug Hardy (to name but a few) have posted here in the past, but don't much any more. I mention them by name not to call them out, but because I genuinely admire their work as well as their opinions. And of course, they all have great, great stories! For my small part as a moderator, I try to help LST be the kind of place where tattooers feel welcome and want to share their knowledge, tell some stories, weigh in with considered opinions, and of course, bust a few chops here and there. Non-tattooers can only benefit from that kind of community. I am very grateful to everyone else who has the same goal.
  10. Andre is one of my favorite tattooers.
  11. I see what you did there. I loooooove that. Mitsudomoe on a huge drum with the most solid black possible. Super cool.
  12. Welcome to LST, Shayne. Glad you like the site.
  13. Ha! @ian answered that question for me a while back. BTW, who did yours, @ian? I got some small bonji from an old guy in Yokohama a few years back.
  14. @Dennis, damn! That's on you? I was drooling over it earlier. So, so good. I love that you have two very different but equally rad skulls on that arm.
  15. I haven't even pierced our daughter's ears yet. This makes me wish I believed in hell.
  16. Welcome to LST, Aaron. That's a nice intro.
  17. Thanks so much for posting that, @ironchef. I love those guys.
  18. My wife and I DJed in Billings about 6 years ago. It was a blast!

Welcome, @MoistTowelette! Love that backpiece you posted pics of.
  20. Congrats @CultExciter! I've also admired your drawings and wondered if you were trying to break in. Best of luck (although you already know that hard work will get you much farther than luck).
  21. Jesus, dude! Mike and Henning are two of my favorite tattooers and easily two of the nicest people in the biz. Welcome and then some.
  22. It's a message board, not a Minor Threat show.
