  1. You should be proud! You're off to a great start.
  2. Speed varies from artist to artist, and that includes artists who work by tebori. Horitomo's tebori technique is as fast and even faster than some artists' machine work, and I know that Horiyoshi III is considered one of the fastest tattooers around. I also understand that he works primarily by machine these days.
  3. Might it be worth it to get one session in California, then 1-2 more in Japan? It would save you a little money. Maybe @Mike Panic can weigh in with a minimum number of sessions recommended.
  4. I can vouch for that. My wife and I have had the same experience a few times (but not at Saved). Can't wait to see finished pics of both of your pieces!
  5. I must have missed this, but who's doing your back?
  6. Looks like you have control issues. (Sorry, I couldn't resist.) I second what others have said: let it heal completely and see how it looks. It can take a month, sometimes even longer, for a tattoo to heal completely. It varies based on any number of factors. Good luck!

Jesus, you have great taste! Welcome.
  8. I may be weird, but I found the shin bone itself to be a cakewalk. And I got one shin tattooed twice (with a big coverup).
  9. Yeah, buddy! I was happy when you landed the gig at California Tattoo and I'm really happy for you now. Stay in touch while on the road.
  10. I'm tattooed damn near all over, and I can safely say that the ribs were far and away the worst for me. Way worse than the ass, spine, kneecaps, and feet. Listen to what Killercook76 says in the post above this one. All of it. But hey, you're 16, and as such, probably don't give a shit what a bunch of old strangers on the internet have to say. 11. Kelly Edwards is awesome! Welcome to the forum.
  12. I just approved your attachment in your intro thread.

    Hi all.

Just approved that attachment for you, @hallious. Super cool Nio! And welcome.
  14. I couldn't agree more! I did both feet the same day so that I could be mostly barefoot for the three next days. And yeah, total #lstproblems. :)
  15. To be honest, I was terrified of the knee, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Parts were really awful, though. And you already know how bad the feet are.
  16. Congrats to both of you! And yeah, I don't even know if that awesome Xam piece is the best tattoo Eilin got in May. She could have her own side contest with all the awesome shit she got in the past month.
  17. That's like trying to figure out if you want mustard or mayonnaise on your shit sandwich.
  18. I am quickly moving into the "living vicariously" phase of collecting: i just got my wife an appointment with Paul Dobleman (as a gift for her getting her PhD) and also told her to book with Capilli Tupou, who will be in SF for a guest spot in September. We went over what would be great to get from Capilli, and she heard back yesterday. I'm super excited for her, and at least these are tattoos I'll get to look at every day.
  19. Welcome, and like Joe said, good luck with the move.
