Belated welcome, indeed. And remember: the spirit of the **************** lives on.
  2. File under "Schadenfreude."
  3. Waiting for new user name "Sirsula_Thomson" to register. Oh, and welcome, Rich.
  4. I think the use of quotation marks on their site is unintentionally hilarious.
  5. If he was really retro, he'd have made a silent zoetrope, not some fancy video on a computer machine.
  6. I like some of his tattoos and none of his posturing.
  7. It's funny to hear you say that, because when Tim was tattooing my one tiger paw that's fishin' out navel lint, Scott looked over and said, "Man, it's gonna suck when I get my belly button done." But he said it in a way that, ya know, not getting it done was out of the question.
  8. Damn! I remember seeing him outline that on you at the convention. So killer.
  9. Just saw this on Tumblr: The Tattooed Man, “Don Manuelo”, German. Photo dated 1908.

    thank you

Welcome! Can you start contributing by telling us if you have any tattoos and, if so, who they're by?
  11. I feel like I'm a clash of different styles. I speak a few different languages, have more than a few interests, and have done a lot of different things in my life. My tattoos are a reflection of that, and as much as I admire people with one full suit from a single artist, I know that it's not for me.
  12. BAN. I mean, welcome! I've been waiting for you to sign up. Glad you finally did.

    Bloody Sparrow Tattoo

    She's not exaggerating (much).
  14. No shirt, no shoes, no problem. LOVE that Rock of Ages! Can't wait to see it completed.
  15. This is oversimplifying things a bit, but if you love his style and trust him, you've done enough planning.
  16. Welcome! I work as a copywriter in an office full of nice people who don't appreciate tattoos (save for a few), so I just keep 'em covered for the most part. They're conversation starters, and that's not always a conversation I wanna have.
  17. I flew down to Two Roses in San Diego a few years ago to get tattooed by Ben Grillo. The guys at the shop were picking up lunch at their favorite burrito spot, Cuatro Milpas, and bought me lunch. They also have a coffee bar there and hooked me up with espresso drinks. One of the best experiences I've ever had in a shop.
  18. Just saw this on http://www.theboldwillhold.com/: Wow.
  19. Post some sweet tatties, Boodah! And welcome (even though I know you signed up a while back).
  20. God DAMN, those are badass! And while I've never been tattooed by Bryan, I'll go ahead and agree that Scott hurts more. Just a wild guess.
  21. While I don't disagree, I also don't think that most people who do stick and pokes see them as alternatives to going to a shop. Almost every example I've ever seen or heard of falls under the category of A) someone like Jade, above, who was badass young 'un, B) someone like Swazzi (my new nickname for you) who did it as a "club" thing or C) the result of an evening of party tatts.
  22. I'd like to point out this gallery right here on LST: kayle leogrande's Pictures - Tattoo Gallery @ Last Sparrow Tattoo Kayle joined, uploaded a ton of great pics of Americana and Japanese work, then vanished. I hope he comes back and joins the discussions. I'll admit that I was unfamiliar with his work, so I checked out his site. Turns out dude is (or was?) a professional cyclist! Very cool.
  23. Yeah, he learned tebori from Horiyoshi III, but he was already a very well established tattooer by that time. He used to go by Washo and (I think) learned from Sabado, so as you can imagine, his style was very, very different from what it is today. I've always thought that it was cool that even after 10 years or so under his belt, he still humbled himself to become a student and start over in many ways. He's an enormous talent, and I consider myself ridiculously lucky to have work from him.
  24. Very cool! I'd love to hear how you decided on him or how you came to find him. My guess is that you've got some great stories about it.
