1. There is nothing like the feeling of finding an artist who's as stoked on the piece as you are. Congrats!
2. That's also an awesome thing you did about 40 weeks ago. :) Congrats again!
3. Scott R Yeah, buddy! All the best to you, your wife, and the little guy!
4. Surely someone here can post a photo of Ed shirtless. I know I've seen one (I believe it was taken at Chicago Tattoo Company a few years back?). I'm reading his memoirs and I'm dying to see his torso piece from Horiyoshi II.
5. Bumping this old thread with info that may be new for some of you: How to purchase art work from Thom deVita | thomdevita
6. As for size, that's a question for your artist. I am not an artist, but I've been told by a few (and have overheard many more) say, "I can do that--but we gotta make it bigger." That allows for more detail, and in some cases, the tattoo will hold up better as a result. That plant you posted..not really my style, nor does it seem to be in the style of the traditional tattoos you seem to favor. Some of those Oppenheimer prints you linked to could work as tattoos, but really, all the tattooed ladies you posted have tattoos that look like tattoos. That's part of why they work so well, and a big reason for why they age so well. If you really wanna achieve that look, I again urge you to talk to an artist and to consider tattoo designs as opposed to prints by non-tattooers. Again: I'm not an artist, which is part of why I keep nudging you to talk to one. I hope that helps.
7. Your first posts are now approved. Welcome to LST! The guy's legs (color photo) you posted are by Stuart Cripwell. I've been tattooed by Stuart a few times, and I know for a fact that his client achieved that look by giving Stuart a lot of (if not total) control. Just a heads up. The best results are usually achieved when you put your trust in a solid artist. Speaking of, if you're anywhere near Amsterdam, I highly recommend checking out Salon Serpent. tattoo Kim Anh Nguyen has a style that you might really like, and the other tattooers at that shop are great, too. Good luck!
8. A friend of mine found this and scanned it for me. Since it's in Life magazine--in 1961--I expected it to be on some, "Well, thank American Jesus that's illegal now!" Instead, they seem to complain about the ban. "Effete civilization is smothering the 4,000-year-old art." I'm also intrigued that a Coney Island carney still counted his 59 tattoos, all of which had devolved into "purple pictures." About this "needles and matches" method: I assume the matches are to burn paper to create soot which gets mixed with water (or, you know, piss)?
9. On Sunday, @Paul A. Dobleman added three horsepower to my right leg. I'm still stunned at how beautiful it is. He just added it to his LST gallery: pharoahs horses with rope Tattoo Picture | Last Sparrow Tattoo
10. @introspect, that is absolutely gorgeous. I can't wait to see this one come along!

@dcostello I'm sorry if I misled you into thinking it'd have that Cormac intensity; I agree that he's in a league of his own. Glad you dug it.
12. You dirty, dirty man. :) Super cool pit ya got there. And @dooktruck, THAT thing is electric! Seriously powerful tattoo.

Yo, LST!

Welcome! Any friend of Iwar and Wilhell....
14. That's a notoriously bad show. In stark contrast, as @David Flores points out, the State of Grace show (Bay Area Convention of the Tattoo Arts) is one of the best in the world.
15. Too much butt wink if I had a bar on my back, though. :)
