  1. Haha, nah, not on me. I have a few tacks from Mr. Grillo, but that's not one of them.
  2. World's smallest panther (by Ben Grillo, of course):
  3. Yeah, I'm cool for the first 3.5, but then I would really like a cold beer. We'll see how long I'm "cool" for on my rib sessions next month, though.
  4. This one's for artists and collectors alike. What's the longest you've ever sat for a tattoo and (for artists) the longest you've ever worked on a client? I've had several 5-hour sessions, which is kinda pushing it, but once, I sat for 9 hours. Without a break. Overnight. File under never again. The worst part is that I didn't really plan for a long session--it just ended up taking forever. I'm sure some of you have some crazy stories, possibly involving Shige, Filip Leu, and/or Chris Trevino. :) For the record, the last 4 tattoos I got took under 3 hours, combined. Much more fun!
  5. Hahaha...took me a minute, but I'm laughing now.
  6. As is mine, which I suspect may have had something to do with a recent iPhone OS update. At any rate, thanks!
  7. Me, by a long, long shot! She got tattooed a few years after we met. I guess I'd been "influencing" her. :)
  8. Haha...let's just say that you're probably a lot closer to your parents than I am (both emotionally and geographically). I see them about once a year, so it's not that difficult to stay covered, and I don't plan on doing my hands or neck. And yes, I see the irony in me posting this in a thread that is ostensibly about punk tattoos. At this point, several of my nephews are tattooed and my parents know about it. There are different rules for grandkids, though, and I know that my parents would just be brokenhearted to learn that I'm as heavily tattooed as I am. That's why I just avoid the topic altogether. HOWEVER, my oldest sister told me the funniest thing I've heard in years. She said that my dad mentioned to her that he knows that my wife is tattooed. (I think she sent him a pic of her with our daughter.) My wife has half sleeves, a few tattoos on her back, and one on her shin. My dad's comment to my sister was, "I know she's got one BIG tattoo on her arm...I think maybe she's been influencing Ross." I don't think I've laughed that hard in years.
  9. I just got this last week: Bad Brains fans will immediately recognize that I got that Positive Mental Attitude. But that's not what I love about this tattoo. I went back home to Texas for Thanksgiving. I usually go to Austin, where I used to live, to spend it with my brother, but this year, we all went to my parents' house. Now, my parents are very old school conservatives. In fact, they don't even know I have tattoos (although I think they're beginning to suspect it). My oldest nephew is 27 and is very much the black sheep of the family. But for the past few years, he's worked as a piercer/tattooer. He's not all that welcome at my parents' house, but he's my nephew and I love him. His younger brother drove me to his shop to pay him a visit. It was the first time I'd seen him in 10 years; as soon as I saw him, I knew I had to get tattooed by him. He was really honored and I was very, very touched to be able to add a piece from a family member to my collection. He's also a Bad Brains fan, and it seemed like a good choice for a quickie tattoo. This one means more to me than anything else I have.
  10. I had a consultation with Tim Lehi on Saturday for two tigers on my ribs and torso. In my humble opinion, no one can touch his tigers. I am ridiculously excited about this.
  11. This was such a great read--thanks so much for posting it, Jennifer. I got tattooed by Richard Friday night (I was the last appointment) and had a blast. It was one of the few times I wished that the tattoo had taken longer--Richard was cracking me up the whole time.

    Sons of Anarchy

You could probably say the same for mafia culture, but it sure makes for great television.
  13. I just found a video of Richard Stell tattooing during the blackout. I heard that Clay Decker helped him hook up his machine to the USB port on his wife's MacBook:
  14. Thanks for the compliment. Man, Garver's tigers are so good! I seem to recall you saying that you rarely post pics of your tattoos, so thanks for sharing that one.
  15. THAT is awesome! And who did the tiger on your right arm? I have a consultation with Tim Lehi tomorrow. I want him to put two tigers on my ribs. Something tells me that those may end up being my favorite tattoos.
  16. That's great, Nick. I remember reading an interview with Ed Hardy about 20 years ago (in the old Modern Primitives book) in which he talks about the shame that's been heaped on a lot of old guys for having tattoos. He said that he always approaches them, compliments them on their tattoos, and asks who did them. That really stuck with me, and I'm happy to hear that you're doing the same.
