  1. I know a dude that goes by Billy Beans. Most people don't even know his real name though. I believe it was a nickname that was given to him, and I believe he's been known by it since he was in high school.
  2. Instagram for android was released today.... https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.instagram.android
  3. I've been thinking about it since I posted this, and I think they should let people do as they please. The more people end up with jacked up infected garbage and shit that looks like a blind asshole tattooed it on them the better I think the good stuff looks. You know the best way to teach someone not to get tattooed by his buddy in the kitchen? Let him get a case of MRSA that eats 1/2 the flesh off his arm and leaves him with a limb that looks like it's been through a wood chipper..... ;-)
  4. Sorry if this is either cluttered or if any of this has been posted already. I did search and didn't find it posted yet. As for the possible clutter I thought this would be better than 3 separate posts. The first is a link to a piece Joe Capobianco wrote for the Huffington Post about the "history" of tattooing. Nothing really controversial, but an interesting read. The second is an article about the possibly controversial new law in Florida regarding tattooing.... I'll wait to see what others say before I give my opinion on that. Third is an entry from the Needles and Sins blog about the upcoming show "Best Ink". I found myself somewhat ashamedly hooked on Ink Master, and imagine I may end up equally drawn to this show. There will certainly be aspects of it that make me want to throw stuff and my TV, but I think the article sums things up pretty good. Cheers! http://www.huffingtonpost.com/joe-capobianco/tattoo-art-best-ink_b_1375235.html http://www.miaminewtimes.com/2012-03-15/news/a-new-law-pits-florida-tattoo-artists-against-one-another/ Needles and Sins Tattoo Blog | "Best Ink" Premiers Tonight
  5. I appreciate all the response. What I was getting at was more like what Bunny addressed. While I would not deny anyone their human right to do as they please to their own bodies, I try to be aware of how things are viewed. I don't want to be "that asshole", and I am always looking for input from the community about what is considered "acceptable".
  6. I don't want to clutter things up, and have a rather random(but foot related) question so I thought I'd just stick it here. What's the opinion of a proper amount of overall body coverage before having your feet tattooed? I believe in having a considerable amount of coverage(and also a steady job that doesn't mind) before tattooing things like hands and neck. I'm not sure about the feet though.
  7. First that I remember was my great uncle when I was about 6 years old. He had been in the Navy many years ago and had a Navy Anchor just below the elbow on the front of his left arm. I remember thinking he was the coolest relative I'd met.
  8. My experience has kind of worked itself out organically. The first about 5 years I was getting tattooed, for one reason or another, it was about once a year that I got tattooed(started at 21). I didn't even realize it was working about that way until about a year ago. When I realized it I thought it's a pretty good pace. My tattoos average about 36" sq so I figure that gives me a decent amount of time to keep getting tattooed. I have to admit that my last 2 were only 6 months apart, but once I get my right arm and my chest finished I think I'll be able to slow back down...maybe ;-)
  9. Jim Beam Black Label has long been my favorite. I love the syrupy smell in the bottle, and the following very strong bite is what I prefer. I'm a Kentucky boy as well, so it's fairly inexpensive around here. My other favorite would be Elijah Craig. It seems well balance, but still very much "bourbony". I also like Evan Williams White Label pretty well. It's may not be cool enough for some people, but it has quite a lot of flavor for a 100proof bourbon.
  10. I was thinking as I read the last couple pages of comments about what a tattooer I trust a lot told me recently. At first I thought it came down on the side of "pro specialist" but in reading the recent stuff and thinking about it a bit more I think it may come down on the "anti specialist" side. To paraphrase him -a good tattoo artist should be able to do a wide range of things. It also makes me think of something I read that I believe either Kore Flatmo or Myke Chambers said. It was something about how anyone who considers themselves a tattoo artist should be able to make clean lines and pack in color. I think on a larger scale, tattooing is such a diverse field that as long as someone is putting out quality work, it's hard to say that what they do is "right" or "wrong". There are walk-in street shops because there is a market for that. There are also appointment only, private, total custom shops, because there is a market for them. A TV show is just that, a show. Their goal is to make something people will watch, and part of that is creating something that people will talk about as well. I watch the show because it has some interesting elements and holds my attention for 40 minutes. I couldn't give less of a shit what Spike TV and it's minions think about anything.
  11. I try to be as honest as I can with people without being too harsh. My problem is that most of the "hey look at MY tattoo(s)" comes in response to them seeing my tattoos. There seems to be this expectation that all tattooed people are part of a larger family, and I just don't get down with that. Other people, with at least decent work, who seem to have a clue about what the fuck they're doing I can almost always connect with on some level. When it's some ass-clown who lets his buddy who is trying to "learn" scratch all over him in his kitchen, and then wants to show it off like I should give a fuck, I don't really connect with that. That's not to say I don't have at least one tattoo I regret. I do have one, and it stays hidden away most of the time as a reminder of what not to do. I didn't read the entire thread, but I liked something the first post said. Sometimes I feel like my even half-hearted approval of the garbage someone is defacing their body with is going to possibly have the effect of encouraging them to get more garbage on them. I'm a big believer in doing what you want to your own body, but I also believe if you ask me what I think I have the right to be honest with you. Anyhow... sorry to rant... just my 2cents. Peace and love folks :p
  12. WoW... there is a LOT of porn on tumblr.... I read this recently and just started looking.
  13. It turns out my pale, somewhat flabby chest is a bit more tender than I thought. I punked out at 2 hours in. He's pretty close to me so I decided another session was favorable to an additional hour of pain at the time. Hopefully will get it finished this next weekend. Oh yeah, I went with a skull, and I'm very happy. Thanks for all the help folks!

I really dig the spider skull.
  15. Teddy McBee. He's in Portsmouth Oh. He did the lady head with wings in my pictures.
  16. Thanks for all the input. I believe I'll be going with a skull of some sort. I really do like skulls, and only have one so far. That's what my gut tells me.
  17. I'm not sure if you were kidding or not, but I like the panther head with hipster in it's mouth idea.
  18. Ok folks I need some input here. I'm scheduled to get some work done this Sunday, but I don't really know what I want. I've always been that way. I've been fortunate enough to have some artists I really trust usually just tell them where I want it, and to have fun. This next one is going on my upper right chest area and will hopefully be about 6"x6" when finished. Most of my other work is in places that are visible at times(arms and legs mostly) so they've been pretty "family friendly" so far. This one being somewhere that will be covered most of the time I'm thinking about something maybe a bit edgier. The idea in my head is something that says "I'm tired of hipsters and soccer mom's diluting the tattoo culture".... what kind of imagery do you all think might say that? I appreciate any and all input!
  19. I just watched the little video of b-tat on the thread about ink masters. It reminded me how much people talking about "grindin" in reference to working hard can bother me.
  20. Does unloading trucks and doing bad tattoos count as "grinding"? That did look like a pretty decent trailer though. I wonder how much better he'd be if he used the money the trailer cost him to be able to take some time off from his "day job" to go to someone and really learn how to tattoo? We've got a lot of this kind of stuff near where I live. The guys that work a regular 9-5 and think since they saved up enough money to buy some 3rd rate ebay tattoo kit and a "shop" that they're artists.
  21. Kore is the bees knees. Memento in Columbus has some really good dudes too. Memento Tattoo & Gallery
  22. Every time some lame square gets butt-hurt because a bunch of tattooed people tell them to piss off baby Jesus smiles.....
  23. This is part of why I've enjoyed this site so much so far. I absolutely just learned something by being somewhat corrected, and it was done in a wonderfully polite manner. Thanks for the insight Mr. Flores.
  24. It's an admitted guilty pleasure for me. I don't watch it on tv though, I bootleg it, and yes I justify watching it with knowing I don't improve their ratings. It helps me sleep at night. I certainly agree with the car crash analogy. I was rather surprised to see Al get cut. I figured the producers would keep him around as long as they could just for the drama. The time limit thing is just plain stupid and irresponsible. I'm sure it's just there to try to make for good tv, but it's still stupid. I can already imagine a whole new crew of uninitiated assholes walking in to tattoo shops and telling some guy, "I want these 900 things incorporated in to this tattoo that's going to cover my entire chest and I want it done in 4 hours or I'm not going to pay you".
