Inspired by the group, I listened to the Lucero channel on Pandora for about 2 hours last night.

That is a big ass bird. Nice.

Thanks @kylegrey. I like that example a lot. One of the things I want to work through with an artist is whether it would look good on me though. I found another example similar to that and it is a little farther back. Not so much on the chest that might work really well though. I'll check out Jill's blog too. Thanks.

Thanks @Joe Shit. I like a few different examples right now. Some are leaning more toward asian and some are not. I figure I will get that more worked out once I am able to meet with some artists. And I am in southeast Florida. Palm Beach County specifically. Beautiful work in the link. Thanks. Most of that is much larger and far more detail and color than I will be looking at but beautiful.

Yeah, I've noticed the difference in design and I definitely dont want a chicken head. I am drawn more to the Phoenix with a bit of attitude. I've seen some great ones done in the top center of the back with the wings stretching out toward the shoulders but I am thinking I want it on my shoulder so I can see it. Not sure yet though. Might get the Phoenix on my back and get the next one on my shoulder. I guess it will depend on what I can afford. And yeah, if you have pictures, I am always looking for ideas. Thanks.

Thanks Jennifer. I really was asking just to see what the thoughts were on it. I've decided it is what I want because I think they can look really cool and you can draw whatever meaning you want from it. More curious than anything but it is interesting to know what more experienced people think. The opinions wont talk me out of it. I appreciate all of the input.

Teriyaki burgers on the Weber Kettle with mac and cheese. And several Fosters. Simple but good.

Never mind. I just saw you posted a link. So, what do you say about the phoenix?

Where in Florida is he?

So what is the general consensus on phoenix tattoos? I didnt see it mentioned so much in the thread about what tattoos you dont like to do but what are your thoughts? I am looking to get my first and have thought about a lot of ideas. I originally was trying to come up with a design that honored my parents since I lost them both so early and celebrated my wife and daughter. That wasnt working out so good. I decided that the phoenix can represent a lot of different things and as long it is a bad ass bird, it can look pretty cool. I need to talk to some of the local artists to see what I can do but looking mainly at my shoulder/upper arm or maybe upper back. Just wanted to get your thoughts.

I am basically a bbq guy and even have a small bbq catering company. I basically use that to make money to compete in bbq competitions. At home, I love to cook red beans and rice and jamalaya.

Funny stuff. Someone at work showed it to me recently and it has been the running joke in the department for a while. We try to slip the words honey badger into meetings and keep a straight face.

Jonny Lang today. Dig it!

A lot of Warren Haynes lately. Some Pearl Jam and a good bit of Cross Canadian Ragweed. Otherwise it is Pandora. I use the Warren Haynes station when I am settling down for the night. Something more rocking when out by the pool.

I am not a huge fan of realistic portraits but I like the black and grey better than color. I am amazed by how someone can not only draw a realistic portrait but tattoo it on someone. It is an amazing talent and I have complete respect for those who can do it and have no problem with anyone who has or gets a portrait tattoo. Just not something I could see on me. Then again, for most of my life I never thought I would see a tattoo on me at all.

I hesitate to post in a beer thread with guys from Ireland but I do love beer. We just got a Total Wine store near our house and they carry a lot of craft beers both domestic and imported. I've tried several. Liked some, others not so much. But I was in North Carolina recently and tried a beer called Dirty Bastard. It is a Scotch style ale. It's not super exclusive or expensive or anything but it was one of the best beers I have tried in a long time. The problem is, it was late in the trip and we only had a few so I figured I would just get some when I got back home. NOT. They dont distribute to Florida yet. I am anxious to try it again to make sure I like it as much as I remember.

@Duffa - Good advice for sure. Unfortunately, the budget is fairly fixed for the preservation of my marriage. I have a little wiggle room but not too much. I have a pretty good idea of what I want now but the size and location will be dictated by price. The biggest challenge is picking an artist. There are several shops around here and all of the pictures are starting to look pretty similar. That's why I am hoping for some good recomendations. Thanks again for the input. Good stuff for sure.

I would love some recomendations for an artist or shop in the Palm Beach County Florida area. I am looking to get my first tattoo and have decided on some interpretation of a phoenix in black and grey. I dont have a huge budget but want something of quality. Any and all input appreciated.

Thanks all. I live in South Florida, specifically Palm Beach County. I would love recomendations for good tattooers in my area. There seem to be plenty but weeding through them to find the right one is a daunting task. Hey Steak, I think my second tattoo might have a guitar in it!! Or third. My wife will make me get a matching tattoo at some point too.
-
That works for me. I know a lot about guitars. Only wish I knew how to play them better. Only problem is, it looks like this place is going to cost me as much as the guitar forum.

Hey, I'm Johnny. I am in my mid 40's and for some reason have decided that I really want a tattoo. I actually want a few but starting with one. I have never really wanted one before. Actually never really thought much about it one way or the other but lately I have been obsessed with it. I came here to learn all I can.
