the higgs style is so simple yet so powerful, it's easy to fuck it up. like has been said there are lots of artists that have a unique style, and if you want that style then you should get tattooed by them. if there is a rad flash sheet in the shop then yeah, get something off of it. as far whats frowned upon with the artists i know...lifted from the internet: a pic of a flash sheet, pretty sure. some other art, maybe. a picture for reference, probably not. anything you show them on yr smartphone, definitely.

got matching tudor roses with my special lady friend. she decided she likes purple better than red when we were there. these days though, if we decide to get tattoos together we just get whatever we want. no need to match.

i think there's a few things goin on here people don't know what good work is people get tattoo'd by their friends that own or work in shops people get tattoo'd by the hot shit shops/artists at the time people want to spend little money and not have to wait to get work people go to shops that their friends tell them to go to i hear people (with few or no tattoos) tell other people to go to shops that do terrible work, and there are many many of those shops in austin. on the other hand, i hear people telling people to go to the current hot shit shop or artists too. i rarely hear people mention some of the best shops around though.

and i ended up getting a torch not something i'm usually too into but the narrow spot kinda dictated it. also was not worried though, because i know this guys work and knew it would turn out awesome.

ha. not yet. jaie devore is probably moving soon. i have some spots i want him to do, front of bicep, left side of chest and maybe stomach... after that there's not many people i want work from here, it will probably solely be chris, katja and bob doing work on me, and i will go much slower between pieces. maybe a floater occasionally be ben siebert or someone else.

gettin the itch to get a tattoo again, a friend was in town from boston and asked about getting tattoo'd in austin. of course i know just the person to take her to, she got a badass bat on her knee. i hung out at the shop with, now i really want another spot filled. a dagger would've worked awesome but the demon head i got on the shoulder took up some of the space. might get a weird fish morph or some wonked out looking dragon. not sure.

yeah, stell said he thought bob is the person most influential to tattooing in texas. because of who he taught to tattoo. bob has this joke he makes when people are getting work by someone other than him, basically he goes "oh i really like how you put the dick in there..." then i learned he taught dave lum to tattoo and i thought whoa, at one point maybe that wasn't a joke and something he didn't say out loud. of course bob is a really nice dude and doesn't agree with hiding shit in tattoos...
