Yup, I agree. I guess were all just naive and getting ripped off. Thankfully I'm too happy with the work to care.

A tattoo is only worth what someone is willing to pay. What you may see as overpriced may be a no brainer to the next guy.
There's no reason to subliminally put someone down for how they choose to spend their money.
If I were an out of towner and wanted to be tattooed by the artist that was discussed, I'd drop $700 for a couple hours, no question. I'd do it with a smile on my face :D
When I'm staring at my sick new tattoo, the money I spent would be the last thing on my mind.....

People often get tattooed with new-school designs that look like body paint rather then tattoos. Because of that 'artistic' work tattooing is seen by some as more 'sophisticated', 'civilised' and non-committal. So it is now suitable for housewives, teachers, bankers and other people, who would not get tattooed in the older days. They wouldn't dare. But that is just my own crazy theory (I'm trying to understand tattooing trends in my own country, and the reasons behind it). So if my theory is true, the more people want tattoos the more artists there will be. Supply and demand. Capitalism.

Ive been trying to total it, but I started in June 2010 and we got this far June 2011 and kinda have put it off to start a sleeve but I think this year we are going to complete it. I know the outline took 5 hrs and then shading is about 5ish with about 2-3 more hours to go.

Personally, I think Lango gets slept on at that shop, so check him out, or any of the other awesome shops in the Bay Area (Blackheart, Temple,etc.)
Besides, San Francisco is definitely one of the nicest/coolest/interesting places in California and worth the trip on it's own.
