Make sure and post a photo. When I get down to San Francisco Rassier is my top pick. I just booked an appointment with Steve Byrne for the first week of February.

@Petri Aspvik it doesn't spell 'Jesus' s such. It spells 2 initials of the Roman/Latin title of Jesus.
I think it's the same symbol as the reverse of this coin:

I can't find the exact source online but it was explained in detail in a recent BBC documentary on the history of christian art.
Maybe it was the full version of this show: BBC Four - The Dark Ages: An Age of Light, The Clash of the Gods
Sorry to derail this thread but anyone interested in history, art or symbolism should check out the BBC Four documentaries on BBC iPlayer.
To keep this on-topic, in the apple itunes store there are many lectures and short docs on Japanese art in the iTunesU section - For FREE!

Seems like we can expect a pretty weak showing this month (slackers!), so I'll throw my most recent tattoo into the ring. Torch + snake from Ron Henry Wells, done just before Christmas at Congress Street Tattoo.

I see a couple of people suggesting that its a bad idea to go the freehand route. sorry but that is false. if you go to someone and they cant draw a good design on you chances are that they wouldn't have drawn it any better on paper.
I am not saying they don't use stencils and I'm sure they do sometimes but I personally have never seen Richard Stell, Troy Denning or Chris Trevino use a stencil. also I work with both Horizakura and Yoni Zilber who I watch draw on entire sleeves and backpieces that become the most beautifuly executed tattoos. So what im saying is its not the process/approach that is to blame for giving you an unsatisfactory tattoo it is the artist that executed it. I'd hate to see you go into a situation where youre gonna get tattooed by a Chris Garver or Horitomo and he says he's gonna freehand it so you get spooked and end up opting out of it because someone on the internet said that freehand is a red flag.
also drawing on the spot is perfectly ok if the artist has the experience and skills to do so. if Gordon Ramsey offered to come to my house and make me dinner using whatever i have in my cupboard I'm not going to request that he figure out the recipe a week in advance because he's going to nail it.

Sums it all up, nothing to add on that.
I have still been waiting to see this tattoo in question, I know another user posted a picture of his, but still no picture of tattoo that started this thread. I guess it doesn't really matter at this point, but still want to see the finished product.

I loved the DeVita episode's, but there's one thing in Thom Devit's story that's always left out, and that would be Tux Farrer. Why does he always go so unnoticed/unmentioned? There were parts when Nick Bubash/Thom mentioned "Tux" but they never went into detail as to who he was or what he did. Especially considering that he's tied, directly, to both Dan Higgs and Thom DeVita, who are both considered very "big name" types in this niche of the tattoo community. Does anybody know anything about him? All that I could gather was that he had a shop in Baltimore in the eighties near a Greyhound station, learned under Thom Devita, broke in Dan Higgs, and tattooed a young Scott Weinrich (also known as Wino from the Obsessed, Saint Vitus, Spirit Caravan and just generally the coolest guy ever). I wish I could find out more about him!

I don't have any experience with this, but for laser in Montreal, I'd try calling some of the good shops such as PSC, Imago, or Tattoomania and see who they recommend.

Hello All Last Sparrow Tattoo People,
Thom is going to have an Art Show/Sale at Mike Rubendall's King's Ave Tattoo in Manhattan from January 11th-13th. At the show, you will be able to buy signed books, creative rubbings from Tattoo Stencils, and his art boxes. Besides Thom being there in person to talk about his art, Scott Harrison will be tattooing Saturday and Sunday. Thom has agreed to bring some of his stencils from back in the day, so if you want a deVita style tattoo, maybe you can get in with Scott, as this will be the closest you can get to the real thing. This will be a real special weekend, and a good way to see Thom's art up close. Please DM me for any other information, and I will get back to you as soon as I can. I hope everyone enjoyed Thom's Tattoo Age series.
    best,
    Chris Grosso
    P.S.
Nick Bubash is going to be their hanging out with Thom, and beside the usual amazing line at King's Ave., Timothy Hoyer and Chris O'Donnell will be tattooing as well.
