I'm out of space on my arms and back for anything but filler, but I've got plenty of space open everywhere else. Since I'm 46 I figure I probably wont ever have to stop due to lack of space. I promised the missus I wouldn't get the neck or the face (not that I was ever planning on it anyway) so I guess that'll be when I stop for good. Besides, if I ever get to that point it'd be easier to live without neck tattoos than find a new missus.

That is so good. I was Army not Navy but my eye always gets drawn to nautical themed tattoos.

For me it's been the lower back. Whoever named that spot "Tramp Stamp" obviously never got one. If they had they would of named it "The Badass Bitch Badge".

I posted a crappy photo in the Latest Tattoo Lowdown thread a a few days back. I finally got a good picture of the progress on my backpiece. One more session to finish the two angels and tidy a few bits up and it should be complete. Tattoo by Paul Pearson.

Thanks man! Yeah, I got it lined in one shot on June 30th this year. One more session to do the two angels and it'll be basically done. I'll try to get a better picture soon.

My back piece experience so far. Hmmm, where to begin... Both empowering and humbling is my best description. Empowering, because despite after always admiring the full back pieces I'd see in tattoo magazines in the 80's and 90's, then, especially here on LST, I never in a million years thought I'd ever be able to do it. But, this year, at age 46 I started mine on June 30th. I had it built up in my head that it would be the most painful experience of my life, and was so worried that I'd have to quit halfway through, but then I saw the stencil on my back and I was like "It's so awesome. Cool, so what if it wraps around my ribs and goes collar to waist, I can do this." Well, I did do it. It wasn't easy, but I made it through the outline (Shit tons of lines, but he got it on me in 3hrs 40mins.) Yeah, it was painful as Hell. I knew going in what I was about to put myself through, and went in with my head in the game. All of the shading and coloring has been painful as hell as well, but I always see progress, and it keeps me stoked for the next time. I'm about halfway done now at the 17.5 hour mark, taking it in 3 hour or so chunks, plus random tattoo of opportunity times. Humbling, because all the other tattooers and clientele at the tattoo shop doing my back, and other people that have seen my back piece are now like so reverential of it (think "Whoa, Dude, how the Hell did you do that?") I feel like all I did was just lay there and take it because I REALLY, REALLY wanted a ROA back piece. Once it's finished I'll get get to wear this motherfucker till they put me in the ground and I'm worm dirt.

Gee..Thanks a fuckin' lot folks... For making me jealous of all these awesome chest/torso tattoos. With both of my arms, my entire back/ribs, and a couple on the legs, the chest was the one I was most worried about if I could stand to get through with my bony, birdlike chest. I took the plunge this past Saturday and got the chest rocker that says "Simple Man", in simple traditional lettering. I'm super stoked about it, and now I'm trying to figure out how big I can go with a chest eagle.

@Dan S the past few years have convinced me that the old adage "Age ain't nothing but a number" is true. At 46 years old I don't put any limitations on myself outside of what do I want or feel like doing today, because i might get hit by a train tomorrow (seriously, it could happen. I work for the railroad). When that AARP card comes in the mail I will ceremoniously burn that motherfucker!!!

Except for some disapproving looks from folks in their 70's and 80's I've never had any negative comments as I recall. I've had a few "Sick ink, brah" comments from douchetard 19 year old boys before, but technically that's still positive... Side note: I got a tiny, nickel sized spider with a number 13 tattooed on my thumb this past Friday, April 13th and at least once a week or so, despite all this elaborate stuff visible from shoulder to wrist on both arms, I hear "Whoa, you have a spider on you thumb!?! I was at my local tattoo shop last night getting some work done on my backpiece and got to witness an 82 year old lady accompanied by her grown children get her first and probably only tattoo. She got "DNR" in small fancy script over her heart. Turned out she has a bad ticker and wanted a Do Not Resuscitate tattoo. She took it like a champ. It was awesome!

I got my first one on my 19th birthday and managed to hide it for at least 2 weeks. Then there was that morning I overslept for college and she went in to wake me up...saw it peeking out from under my T-shirt...She slapped the shit outta it (thinking it was still sore) saying "wait till I tell your Father"!! That evening at dinner my dad says "let me see your tattoo". I show him, he says "cool". Mom just rolled her eyes. No more worries after that. She still doesn't like it too much, but this little 78 year old woman did tell me recently "you know, I see so many folks around here with just awful stuff tattooed on them and I think to myself "My son's tattoos are sooooo much better"". God, She's awesome!

Figured what the Hell. Tattooed from Sailor Jerry flash on my hairy calf by Paul Pearson at Tried & True Tattoo in Smyrna, Tn. My dad has the same design on his bicep, his one and only tattoo, done in 1954 outside Ft. Bragg, N.C.
