  1. London riots: 'People are fighting back. It's their neighbourhoods at stake' | UK news | The Guardian Story about shop owners.
  2. I agree. I respect the law and military, tough job, etc. But even on 9/11 it wasn't secret agent "Jack Bauer" who stopped United 93, just regular people. Puts my trust more in regular decent people than anything else. Yeah, Hooligans and dumb@$$ people are everywhere in the world. I hope you stay safe and none of this mischief finds you or anyone else that is on this forum.
  3. If I had a shop in a riot, I would hope my next door merchant were these guys: Respects cops (most of them anyways), but can't count on them, protect your own. (I don't mean to cause offense, just how I feel as a small business owner, people work hard for the little they got, just to have it burned down by hooligans.)
  4. I hope everyone fairs well and shops are not damaged!
  5. Ursula:...LOL....no way that's real, but if it is.....yeah....ditto, Dr. Moreau action.
  6. WeRnDoG: Do you know any more history about this Shige/unknown tattooer, tattoo? Active collaboration? After the fact? Was the black work even meant to be half a mask? The take away appears to be that a great tattooer can make different styles next to one another work well, within reason.
  7. Hello, Jake: To the point, great! jade1955: Thank you for your reply. Nothing can really beat a comparison like the one you presented. Your tattoos look great! Per the technique question: My concern was about the idea of having a 'first draft' being permanently tattooed on me. The book that was cited listed this among some points for people who wanted to get tattooed to be aware of/beware of. No more, no less. :) I got my question answered, thank you everyone. But anyone else is free to post their opinions, as well.
  8. WeRnDoG: Wow! Thanks for the heads up! Assumptions made an Ass of Me, then :o. The overall principle in terms of the thread apply better now, but the cherry blossoms are what fooled me.
  9. Thank you for posting this thread, I have similar concerns/thoughts. Some stuff I found on LST that might help you out: Similar thread: http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/tattoo-101/797-collecting-different-styles.html Here is the video that is referred to from the 'Old Tattoo Documentaries' thread started by ShawnPorter, a Great Thread! Here a link to the the above thread as well: http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/tattoo-101/636-old-tattoo-documentaries.html I am curious if anyone is seeing any 'hybrid' tattoos being done in a great fashion? Here is the only one that I found that I thought, 'Wow!' SHIGE of Yellow Blaze: Yokohama, Japan. edit: Apologies, but the similar thread had RoryQ, asking about getting a Thomas Hooper Tattoo next to a different style and having a jarring effect, but in the recent Gypsy Gentleman episode, by Marcus Kuhn, Thomas Hooper does do that, looks pretty cool.
  10. Hello, Jade1955: Do you feel the quality of the tattoo was in any way influenced or effected by whether it was drawn on, stenciled, or a combination? Do you think that one of your tattoos would have been executed in a better way had another method been used, other than the one that was? Or was the Tattooer/Subject the overwhelming factor? briankelly: I ended up not purchasing the book and can't speak to it being accurate narrative of a typical shop, but thought it was well written from what I did read and pretty funny and interesting. But I am not a tattooer, so it's all, at the least, pretty interesting/unfamiliar to me. Best
  11. Hello, Has there been any suggestions for making the audio of the interviews available as mp3 files? Could be interesting to post them up onto itunes, which might drive some traffic to this forums? Just a thought and I would definitely download them to listen while doing other things for sure! Best
  12. Hello, Thank you for the replies: Perez, Ursula Thomson, and David Flores. I picked up the book in the store because it was compared to Kitchen Confidential, which is a book I know pretty well. There is a lot of yes and no situations in that book as well. Looks forward to anyone else with comments, etc. Best
  13. Hello, I came across an opinion that using a stencil is preferable to drawing directly onto the skin, which was deemed basically tattooing a first draft. Is this a common opinion among the posters here at LST? The opinion was in this book: Amazon.com: Tattoo Machine: Tall Tales, True Stories, and My Life in Ink (9780385530521): Jeff Johnson: Books Best
  14. For 'Game of Thrones' Fans: The Creator and His Greatest Creation
  15. okay...when people fight on LST this is how I feel...but only on the inside...
  16. I bit and read one, I don't know if is him. But it certainly someone with a similar demeanor and vibe.
  17. No worries, Jade. Here is another one: Hamburger America A Hamburger Today - America's Favorite Hamburger Weblog! On the serious eats site, there is this guy called, Kenji (Serious Eats: J. Kenji Lopez-Alt's Profile) who is like a mad scientist of fast food, he had someone freeze and then overnight him a DOUBLE-DOUBLE from IN-N-OUT, so he could recreate it from scratch at home. He did this wild experiment at home to recreate McDonald french fries (involves vinegar). Pretty cool and fun stuff. Glad you dug it!
  18. I completely agree about all the amazing small businesses that are out there, but as to the question, 'why is McDonald's successful?'.....more people just want to eat what they expect to eat, rather than take a chance. For burger fans: The Hamblogger They haven't updated the site in months, but the photography is superb.
  19. I agree, there has to be a way to highlight the blogs more. On the forum page, I think to see if someone put up a blog thing, you have to scroll all the way to the bottom, past all the forum threads, where you can see who is online, birthdays, etc. Maybe move Random Images down to where blog entries is now and move recent threads and blog entries up one?
