  1. Not sure if this is your style, but perhaps someone will come across the thread title and be interested. I found this pretty awesome blog, Amelie's (still) Untitled Blog, which has a couple of posts about getting a knee tattoo. She runs a tattoo shop in Copenhagen, with her husband, who is a tattooer. Here are the specific links: Amalie's (still) Untitled Blog: Remember that time i asked Shige to tattoo a bunch of flowers on my knee? Amalie's (still) Untitled Blog: Four out of four It's a really cool blog, as well, in my top ten.
  2. Not in SHIGE's book, wish were otherwise, scratch that one off your list.
  3. It really seems that it all depends on what your work is and who you are working for. This is a pretty informative thread and with some great insights from a lot of people here. Hopes it does not jump the curb.
  4. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-c4hXZI-uU LOL...I won't post anymore, this is a 'how to' make a hitler meme, meme. My favorite one is about the latest Game of Thrones book, which is full of major spoilers, but I watched it and cried too. Night ya'll!
  5. A video example of the same concept. Hitler rants are the best ever.
  6. aphemia: But I got to ask the most important question.....Was the tattoo cool?
  7. I believe this in what is happening now, if I understood my exchange with 'steve' in the newcomers thread.
  8. Sounds like a lot of these non-tattooer 'owners' shouldn't be owning any kind of business, whether it's a tattoo shop or a Tire Kingdom.

  11. That's Great! Just two thoughts: - Would 'Forum Newbie Guidelines' be a closer fit than 'Tattoo Newbie Guidelines?' - Is there a way for everyone who registers to make comments in the forums to see that article as part of the registration process? If it stays as an article, when a few new ones come up, won't it just disappear? Other than that, super cool and great!
  12. I agree with Kev. Hidden tattoos are awesome, loves the idea of someone with a 'full-suit', but can't tell because they are wearing a conservative button down suit. The dichotomy is pretty sweet.
  13. Welcome! I would love to see some military style/inspired/on tattoos! There was this weird thing on needle and sins about tattooing regs. in the military: Needles and Sins Tattoo Blog | Military Tattoo Policy: The Mathematical Equation
  14. Thinks reality won't twist itself to fit tattoos, unless you can shape your own reality, i.e. run your own show, then you can do what the hell you want.
  15. I'll be honest and say 'the inks' gave me an eye for what a good tattoo could look like, and sometimes a great tattoo. I've since moved on to blogs, books, and the forum, but at the start, it was 'the inks.' Too bad that all the apparently manufactured drama got in the way, which is kinda weird, I mean, was there tons of 'drama' on those other reality/work shows? So just NY INK now, which stumbled pretty badly out of the gate and kinda didn't recover for me, so much melodrama and sentimentality, the finale had this 'The Hills' vibe that was a little too weird. I would love to watch like a serialized 'hoop dreams' type documentary series about tattooing, but that's not going to happen.

    hi.

Welcome and good luck. You might fancy reading this thread before getting into the thick of things. http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/forum-suggestions-feedback/1093-suggestions-aiding-newcomers.html Best
  18. I liked the video and thank you to gougetheeyes for posting it. I like the idea of tattooers posting up their own videos, giving a sense of who they are, how they work, quality of their product, etc. If you can put yourself out there while bypassing the gatekeepers of the magazines, etc. why not? I did not find his whole vibe or whatever, anymore inauthentic then what was contained in The Gypsy Gentleman video where three non-Tibetan tattooers made three beautiful tattoos based on Tibetan Buddhism, i.e. I liked it.
  19. Use extreme caution when engaging in a 'Race to the Bottom' when dealing with pricing.
  20. Couple of examples of Jeff Gogue drawing a tattoo directly onto a client's skin: I thought both tattoos turned out pretty cool. gogue in japan with Shige 3/10 part 6 - YouTube "
  21. I agree with I.A.S. Not a tattoo shop owner, but as a small business owner, here's my two cents: 1. I think you should put up a sign that says 'We fix $20 tattoos.' It's a funny play on the a classic business cliche and the people who laugh at it will be your customers. But I wouldn't do anything more than that, because it's just bad business karma and that stuff lingers after those people are are gone. You don't even need to put it up in your window, just next to where you take your payments. Remember most businesses make money on repeat customers and word-of-mouth, not one-offs. 2. I think your bigger issue is your landlord. The $20 tattoo guys are going to be a flash in the pan compared to the problems a bad landlord can cause you. There SHOULD have been a noncompete in your lease, it's fundamental for you and for your landlord, since it's in the landlords interest to have you succeed, so you can pay your lease! IF the landlord is more interested in getting tenants (and in this economy...well...not hard to see why) at the expense of good tenants, then you are dealing with someone who is likely to screw you in more harmful ways. If you are in a multi-unit/suite building, rather than a stand alone, please have a rainy day fund ready. 3. Get an escape clause in your next lease, letting you opt out for any reason in the first six months. You'll lose whatever build out improvements you made and of course, more importantly, time, but you will have an out. Before signing a lease and coming up to re-signing an existing lease are usually the ONLY times you as the tenant will have leverage over a landlord. 4. Just grin and bear it, otherwise. Do good tattoos, treat clients with respect, and use social media to promote yourself. Those three things will serve you well, wherever you set up shop, I think. Good luck and wishes you the best, sir.
  22. Steve: Sweet! I like listening to the videos very much and having them as one file makes it easier to just let them play. Hopes there is a way to do the podcast angle: Great way to listen to the interviews while driving, working out, etc.
