  1. Everyone who loves hip-hop should watch Chappelle's Block Party Documentary....it's amazing.
  2. Not too familiar with what all the correct wording should be, but if the guy is basically no longer an asshole, good for him.
  3. Be prepared to be crushed like some rice cakes! (There is a long pause between both sets....shame on you if you don't stay for the 4 Elements, 3:38min)
  4. Thank you for posting these photos for all of us to see!
  5. @JAllen, I had a similar experience when I closed a business and had to cancel the credit card machines, etc. But there are much better options now to take cards: no contracts, free equipment, email/sms receipts, etc. Per the debit thing, I just tell people I run it like a check card, no dealing with pin numbers, etc. Lived through those horror stories, too. But came out the other side and pretty happy with what is available/using now.
  6. Or the place you got your work done, should have realized that taking cards falls under customer service, and while they are free to charge an additional fee (lawfully now in U.S.), to charge 20% when their own fees really shouldn't be over 2.75%....bad faith. If a company doesn't want to take cards, I think that's a mistake, but that's their business, they can do what they want. But if that company does take cards, and just gouges people for the privilege, isn't kosher to me. If you are happy with your tattoo, that ultimately is what matters and definitely not my place to really to speak ill of people, but man....I personally feel that was not the right thing for them to have done. In my own business (not tattoo related, but street food), I run cards through my iphone, don't charge extra for it (honestly average charge was $10 this past weekend), the card reader was free, there is no contract, people sign with their finger on the touch screen of the phone, etc. I don't know the margins that exist in tattooing, but if 2.75% is going to put you in the red.....might need to tinker with the business model some, or just charge a convenience fee to cover costs, not levy a double digit 'tax' on your customers. Additional charge to cover fees, I completely understand, but slapping more on top of that.....not right in my opinion. edit: Also understand that people like to have just take cash for variety of reasons, cards can get complicated in terms of customer disputes, might have to wait for the money (for which American Express is the #$%#$ worse), etc.
  7. 23 Classic Pinup Girls (PHOTOS) Pretty cool photos of iconic pin-ups.
  8. Paid for by whom? Taxpayers, Corporations, Government? For what? How long? For me, honestly, that just looks like a huge bonus for everyone. I don't think the solution is to make the problem bigger. But if you wanted to make the problem even bigger you could: To be honest, this one pretty much disgusts me. A bit of disclosure, I have significant debt, because I started a high capital small business, right at the beginning of this Great Recession. Right now I am working to pay it all back, which makes one think I would jump on this idea of debt-forgiveness, right? Nope, I'm working to pay back every cent, because "I" made a bad call, it didn't work out, now "I" have to pay the piper, period. But mostly, because I have self-respect. Apologies for the rant, no disrespect meant.
  9. I totally understand, just venting a bit. That list is so catnip, makes me question it's origins a bit. Personally, I just think that when you look at the Tea Party model vs. Tahrir Square model, the Tea Party model is what is going to work in the U.S. In fact, given the news out of Egypt, seems like the Tahrir model isn't working out as hoped for. By definition, to have 'conviction' is to have a 'point of view,' I would hope this movement's point of view is that of the working/middle class. The one word I wish they would bring up is 'FAIR.' Not in some Starbuck 'fair-trade' way, which would just make tens of millions of people just smirk and change the channel. But 'fair' in the sense that it is not fair that hardworking and honest people are getting stuck with a bill for millionaire banker/businessmen/gamblers, who get to keep the profits. Socializing losses, privatizing profits is NOT Capitalism. That would resonate with more people, I mean, it's what resonates with me. It's not about carpet bombing rich people, I don't have a grudge against people who create enough of something to sell at a profit that they become wealthy. Great! It's the people who get/got rich by creating nothing, and then when it went to hell, stuck other people with the bill.
  10. That list is what makes me think about becoming a Republican.
  11. $20 minimum wage = 'I'll do everything, myself' Just being honest.
  12. Yeah, talk about going from 'Freedom Riders' to 'Free-Riders.' Honestly, to be frank, and I mean no offense to anyone, but feels that "'Occupy Wall Street' is playing Checkers, while the 'Tea Party' is playing Chess."* *It's fun to call the Tea Party = Tea Baggers, etc...but they moved the Right, they swung elections (to be won and lost), dominated the debate over everything doing with fiscal issues, etc. I think it's based off of the fact they were 'created' by out of office Republicans operatives (Dick Army, etc.), basically had their own 'News' Channel (at least until just recently), and had one issue that was bigger than themselves: 'Government is the Problem'.....hmmmm....sounds familar. 2012 is theirs to lose, which probably means they will, no one 'snatches defeat from the jaws of victory' like the Right. I'm betting more on that then OWS swaying 2012 congressional or presidential elections. edit: Found this article by Matt Taibbi, RollingStone, that gives good advice to those at OWS:
  13. One of the best time lapse videos ever, agreeing with Gizmodo. Not on Youtube, but ah well....
  14. What are your tattoos? There is at least one other person on the threads who is working in your field.
  15. Found this flickr account and thought it was pretty funny and interesting, actual photos of people in terror at a Halloween Haunted House-esque thing in Canada: Flickr: Nightmares Fear Factory's Photostream
  16. I believe that it is. People have done studies about the decline of civic organizations through out the U.S. But, I believe that 'online' organizations, particularly 'forums,' have been where a lot of people who would once join a local chapter of XYZ, now find people online to share interest with. Good side, you can get pretty esoteric in terms of interest, everything from tattoos to 'It Gets Better' Project to 'crowd-sourcing.' Great example of this is: The Story of Sameer and Vinay | The Dragonfly Effect Bad side, easier for people to act like they are not people online, trolling, flaming, harassing, etc. Plus, of course, hard to know who you are really talking to online. Overall, I think you are correct.
  17. @Ursula It's weird, but I went backpacking in Turkey once, and the few 'western' females backpacking got the same treatment, by virtue of not wearing an hajib or have blonde hair, etc. Thinks once a certain kind of person/personality can slap the label of 'Other' on you, somehow they think they don't have act like 'ladies or gentleman' anymore, glimpse of the 'wild beast' of history. It's honestly fucking creepy to see.
