  1. Interesting conversation. This is what forums should do...bring a community together in a positive thought process and not flaming others. I definitely agree less is more. But where I struggle is, though I love traditional Japanese work, this is the only section I'm dedicating to this style. And to me, koi is a must. Along with the dragon. So Many decisions to make in 5 hours. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Thanks again. That just simplifies it for me. Now I have that damn hannya mask I want. If I can get that mask and it makes sense, I'd be happy. My consult appointment is today. Have the cash ready and he said it would be about 4 weeks and we will start needle to arm. Excited and nervous on this one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Wow man. Thanks for the post. It does look like we are on the same road just about. I have a sparrow on each side of my chest so no Japanese on my chest. And I will go all the way down to my wrist. I like the 7/10 look a bit more but I have an American traditional sleeve on my other arm that runs to the wrist. I think it would look weird having one end shorter then the other. I so badly want too much in this Japanese tattoo. Hannya mask, koi, dragon, samurai. But from what I have read about the tradition, is that the tattoo should contain 2 things in a battle. I.e. samurai and a dragon. I could do without the samurai, but hanya, koi, and dragon is a must. Koi on the forearm with waves and hannya work around the elbow/pit and the dragon on the shoulder. Thanks again. I'm gonna follow your story. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Never heard of kundell. First name is correct though. Haha Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Thanks sir for the reply. I figured those would all be take. Into consideration. I have a traditional American sleeve but pieces it together over 10 months. First time I have used this guy but I guess he is a big deal here in Portland. I am a big guy with big arms, I never take breaks (don't smoke and eat on the fly) so we shall see. Gonna be interesting. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. I'm sorry. I meant 15 hours total. Maybe 3-4 sessions. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. So great news for myself. I have my consult with an amazing tattoo artist here in Portland. I am getting a full shoulder to wrist sleeve. This tattoo will contain a hanya, 1 koi, big dragon, with cherry blossoms and wind bars to complete. Full Color. My question is, I have no idea how long to expect this tattoo to take. I know I will find out Friday a ball park time, but I'm too excited. More importantly, I want to know if the full thing can be lines in one setting. So this question is for people that have had a sleeve done at the same time and not just pieces together over years. I'm thinking 15 hours or so? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Haha. Sorry about my Instagram pic. I thought I had my sparrows in a non IG pic. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. This is happening at noon tomorrow. Rough draft from the artist. he does amazing work
  10. Just went to the shop last night to get measured for my new tattoo that will be done on Tuesday. I am super excited. All of my current tattoos are traditional, and that will never change. So I will try to explain this. Its going to be a heart about the size of an adults palm with a ribbon through the center that says MOTHER. Above and below the heart will each have a Sailor Jerry Sparrow. Then around the heart will be some roses/daisies. All full colors. Excited. Also a bit nervous as this will be my longest chair time. He said about 5 hours. It is the whole back half of my forearm.
  11. pretty excited to have booked appointments for my GF and myself to have quite a bit of chair time with Freddy Corbin. This dude is such a standup guy. He answers my email, calls, etc... within hours. I have messaged many of the harder to schedule artist and have never heard from them in 2 years. Living in Portland, I am hoping to make one trip from Portland to Oakland, then going to my hometown and having Tim Hendricks due a piece all in the same weekend. But for now, Freddy is a lock.
  12. @The Tig. Thanks for responding with pics. Honesgtly, I think the first and last pic you provided is what I am looking for. Love it. @mtisam. Thanks for those links. I am going to delve into them right now.
  13. Hey folks. So I working on one arm at the moment sleeving it in all traditional american style tattoos. It will be done by the new year, then I will work and have my other arm done by summer. My question is, does anybody have any cool ideas for filler to bring them all in like a modern sleeve wood have. I have seen people thousands of tiny stars and crosses in gaps which looks cool. Any other ideas? thanks
  14. haha. very true. I am sure thats what will happen. But even after a couple years of it going strong, you may be good.
  15. I must admit, I do watch every tattoo show. Not that I love them, I just love anything with tattoos. There have been some great artists over the years.
  16. Sorry, I did not read all of the comments. With that said, I am sure they have been mentioned, but stay out of the sun, no picking scabs, and do not over moisturize. In fact, I no longer moisturize at all. Just 3 nice washes a day. Pat dry.
  17. Interesting shop. Sounds well rounded. I am a traditional American guy myself. Come do a guess spot in Portland and look me up.
  18. Welcome. Like you, I am also a big-bold-bright-traditional-tattoo guy myself. In fact, that is all I have...the classic stuff. nice intro.
  19. Yes he was. That man lived a life. And super badass he was. Miss him a lot. And thanks for the warm welcome. I have to get some pics up of my tattoos. Trying to schedule with Freddie Corbin for next October as I will be in his town then. We shall see.
  20. Thanks for responding. All of my grandpas tats were hand poked. But some nice pieces....big pieces too. Naked PIN UP that ran down his leg and a sword that went down the other leg. Will have to find some pics. Now m,y dad is still alive and well. He just sent me a pick of his peacock. Lets just say it has seen better days. I think I remember a Casper the friendly ghost flipping the bird. A red devil...to name just a few. I remember my dad looked so bad ass when I was a kid. Till this day, he wears 501 levis, haynes white t-shirt with the matching "wife beater" under it. Old spice cologne AND Red Wing boots. And to top it off, all the arm tattoos. never has changed that wardrobe my 38 years of living.
  21. I would also like to know as I live in Portland. I have used a couple shops here. One was Cypress Tattoo in Hillsboro and a dude named Justin Ryan (forgot the shop as he did my tattoo as the convention) who is out of Eugene. Looking for solid traditional tattoo artist.
  22. Very cool. I like the design and the solid black :)
  23. Hello folks. My name is Ken and I have been reading threads on here for some time now. I just now made an account figuring I would mingle some. I have always been a huge tattoo fan. One of my Grandpa was just about sleeved both arms. Super old tattoos from WW2. I always loved looking at them as a kid. Plus my father has dozens of tattoos from the 60's and 70's up his whole arm. A little filler and he would be sleeved. Now me?? well I am 38, and just got my first tattoo 5 weeks ago. And since I got that tattoo in the short 5 weeks, I already have 3. Why did I weight until I was 38 to get tattooed if I loved them so much? simply I was a pussy. I was afraid of the needle. I was not afraid of the commitment...I was not afraid of what people would thing...Just that damn needle. And I was not even afraid of the pain. Anyways, One morning 5 weeks ago, a buddy and myself were wrecking some pancakes at IHOP at 6am, and while waiting for our food, I came across these Sailor Jerry Sparrow tattoos. I thought they were the coolest looking thing I have ever seen. So finished up breakfast, and at about 11am, I called this guy that is pretty good in the area. He said he had an opening at 5pm. Off I went and got 2 sparrows, one on each peck. then 4 weeks later, I went big and got a huge peacock on my right forearm at the Portland Tattoo Convention/Expo. Damn thing covers up my whole inside forearm...and I love it. The reason for the peacock is my dad also has a same sized peacock in the same location...but his is 40 years old. Well if your still around, thanks for reading this.
