I work at an elementary school. We have had a bar owner in for career day before. Bar owner vs Tattooer... Idk, both are legit careers. Undertaker too, though that would have scared me as a kid. I could see not allowing prostitutes & pimps in for career day ;-) but if I were the principal I'd let a tattooer talk about the profession for sure.

haha, fine. @Patriot Ink Tattoo, you got a sympathy vote.

Even though I haven't posted a tattoo this month......I'M NOT HERE TO MAKE FRIENDS!
1 vote for me! Suckers!
Not so fast! I thought he meant between Ian & Scott. But then Graeme himself said he wasn't here to make friends before you did, so if was open to everyone he should vote for himself. @Graeme could you clear up this confusion. You either need to give yourself a vote or @ian or @Scott R could still win your precious vote. You probably already voted for them didn't you? And whenever someone says they're not here to make friends I drink an imaginary shot, so thanks, I've just had 2.

Bitching about people who grab your arm to get a better look at your tattoos IS OVER!
I love that show!

I've had Bactine used on me halfway through longer sessions with amazing results--I could not even feel I was being tattooed any more, just heard the buzzing. Love that stuff!

Never noticed this thread before... just read through all of it. I'm Janet and I'm 43. I grew up in small town Connecticut, then moved to Boston for 11 years where I majored in acting, moved around the city a lot, worked many places--the longest run was at a billiard club, and sang in a fun 50s girl-group/rockabilly type band. Then I moved to Los Angeles and I've been here going on 14 years. I teach kindergarten in the inner city. Went back to school to get my master's in education a few years ago. I am into music, esp punk/indie/rock... QOTSA is a good example of a favorite band although David Bowie is my all time favorite (pre-80s). I love animals --don't eat meat or buy anything leather, and I get a lot out of Bikram yoga. My husband ( @DJDeepFried) and I have been together 10 years, married for 5 1/2, and we have an awesome 4 1/2 year old daughter & 2 cats. I can be cynical and skeptical but I'm also positive, open-minded, enthusiastic, and sporadically silly. Whew, that's a lot to sum up in 1 post.
Here's a pic of me I recently found from my younger punk rock days (~'86):

Hi, nice to meet you!

Would have liked to hear more of what Richard had to say but I guess what's the point... since the contestants don't seem to listen. They were all acting like traditional is "easy" but then were not able to do it. Those messed up flags were depressing. Or "jacked"!

Nice werewolf paws!
My daughter's going to be a mermaid.
I think I'll be a witch. We put up our Halloween lights last night and still have yet to get our pumpkins for carving. Next weekend we're going to a harvest festival w/hayrides and stuff...should be fun.

Ive heard 'cap sleeve' for an outer arm, no inner arm tattoo. Is it just me or does 'tats' grate a little as well?
"tats" listed in the first post on terms that make you cringe:
Of course, if you watch the Oliver Peck interview, he says it a million times. But then, he's allowed. haha

Theres a tattoo shop opening tomorrow in Rio Rancho NM ' date=' on Southern right in the same building as Turtle Mountain Brewery. This dude used to be under Livit Ink Tattoo. He had to relocate for not paying rent. He will attempt to use the Art of Seduction by Robert Greene and a tattoo gun to get you into bed...[/quote']
@Amy lambert, you already posted this under the "worst ever" thread... This thread is dedicated to info about Richard & Jennifer Stell...

Spencer added another lotus, a lily pad, and some cool background mandala stuff to this last night. He also put some negative space around where my daughter's name already was, by the top... now I have to wait until January to continue.
Funny how first I asked for a tiger coming down my upper arm. Then he had all these ideas I liked so it grew into what was going to be a 1/2 sleeve. Now... there have been more cool ideas and it's going to be 3/4.
By the time it's done, we should have a better camera.

Seems like if you aren't that good or well known, it would help your business... but if you're already respected, it might not be worth your while to compete as one of the artists.
I understand why the judges agree to do these shows, though. Everyone wants to make money.

I agree. Also' date=' if I could afford (or when I can) to make it to California, booking an appointment with Chris Conn would be at the top of the agenda.
To get back on the topic of pet peeves...for me, the only big one I've encountered from a customer's perspective is having to listen to stupid, offensive shit. I realize that a lot of people would consider me to be overly PC, which is fine (I disagree to a large extent with what most people consider to be "political correctness" and see it more as "not being an asshole", but whatever), but it definitely turns me off to hear racist or homophobic shit when I'm getting tattooed. On one trip to a pretty well-known shop, my buddy that I was staying with (who is gay) decided that he wanted a tattoo too and came with and got tattooed. He was super stoked on it and really liked the dude that we both got tattooed by, but during his tattoo a couple of the other tattooers hanging out made a few gay jokes (unrelated to my friend), and it was pretty awkward and uncomfortable for both of us for a minute. Consequently, I probably won't ever get tattooed by those dudes, despite them making rad tattoos. With a finite amount of skin and a Want list longer than I'll ever be able to get through, I want to enjoy my tattoo experience as much as possible, so I'm gonna go with the tattooer I don't worry about having to endure hearing go off on some "faggot" shit during my session.[/quote']
^sucks.
I'd love to get 1 from Chris Conn, too. Maybe someday...
I don't see any difference in whether I wanted a butterfly & stars or skull & snake...or anything in between--I would want the best work I could get.
As for pet peeves at a tattoo shop, I haven't really come across any. My experiences at Memoir have been the best. That place has a good vibe.

@marymary I don't think there was any need to remove your writing or delete your profile... I was interested in what you had to say. Seems this article has people very up-in-arms, apparently there were over 300 comments on this guy's facebook page about it (my husband read some of them). It's kind of interesting -- he had explanations for all the differences insisting that it's the same tattoo on the same person. To me the second image seems over-exposed but I don't know or really care that much either way about that particular tattoo..
It does make me want to see more differences/comparisons between fresh tattoos and say 1 year later, 2 years later, 5 years later etc. though.
what's it mean?

How about just say, "It's open to interpretation. It means whatever you want." I think I'll go with that next time and leave it at that. That's art. What they mean or don't mean to you can be personal--you don't have to explain yourself to anyone. The last person who asked me why I got a tiger I just said, "I liked it." There are things that I associate it with but I just didn't feel like saying any more. Isn't that enough? That we get images that we like. Yeah. I think so.
