That's LA for ya! It is just like that here... tattoos are part of the culture.

Finally booked session #5 on my arm w/Spencer Briggs...coming up 5/4! ?

I don't know those shops you mentioned (except Broken Art)... but @DJDeepFried and I both go to Memoir Tattoo on Beverly in west LA. We have gotten great work from Kim Saigh & James Spencer Briggs. Shawn Barber & Brendan Rowe are also great, and they get really good guests like Seth Wood. memoir tattoo ©2010 Then there's Unbreakable Tattoo...a lot of good artists there, I'd be interested in getting one from Jim Sylvia. Unbreakable Tattoo - www.tattoounbreakable.com Then there's Dark Horse with Bryan Burk who has an interview you could watch right here on LST. He's amazing. Best Tattoo Artists | Top Tattoo Shops and Parlor in Los Angeles | Dark Horse Tattoo Los Angeles http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TujVa9bS6L0 And last one for now: Shamrock Social Club. I have one from Mark Mahoney. It was just a small one before I knew better, but what a great experience. Coolest guy. Shamrock Social Club

Tattunes: Music, the lord of all drugs.

I have found tattoo shop music tends to be far superior to hair salon music. -
April 2013 Tattoo of the Month Contest

I love the colors in that. It looks really cool! -
holy shit @asradin.

Just back from San Francisco and no new tattoos for me or @DJDeepFried :(! We were thinking of just stopping by 2spirit to check out the place...but were only in the neighborhood while they were closed. Would have gotten something small from Paul Dobleman, but he was out of town. We were only there for a long weekend. Had fun anyway!

I'm in my forties, too, and am finding my tattoos just keep getting bigger. I'm not rich either...but since sessions on a bigger piece are spaced out, I can save the money needed for the next one in between. Anyway, I like your attitude-- you are thinking it over and I'm sure whatever you get, you will like. Your first one looks nice. It's just the more you get, the more you may want to get. You never know...

when...you start to think maybe your arm is cooler than you are... ;)

I like some of the ones mentioned (WTF w/Marc Maron, This American Life, Ricky Gervais...), but my favorite has not been mentioned yet: Judge John Hodgman --hilarious! THAT IS ALL, JUDGE JOHN HODGMAN

I definitely don't think it has the same stigma as neck and throat. It may still have a stigma, for those who hate all tattoos...but less so. I think there are plenty of people who don't really mind tattoos but for whatever reason are turned off by neck/face ones. I have one on my upper back that ends at the base of my neck and it shows often at work, more than I thought it would because I have long hair, but my hair doesn't always cover it. Some of my arm ones show there too. Nobody minds. I'm quite certain if I had throat or sides of neck tattoos, it would be different.

come to think of it, I probably just assumed you were a guy because @Scott R kept calling you dude and bro! ;)
-
@jgolfo -- what do you teach?
-
@Scott R I thought so, too, for a couple of days there! I don't know why. I was pronouncing the username "Else" in my mind like the word rather than the name "El-see" which is how I think of it now. Don't know if I'm right about that either though... @else?

Why the hatred for Cherry Creek Flash?
TrixieFaux replied to William Burgess's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
@Colored Guy, this needs to be in somebody's signature line. I'd use it though I'm not really tattooed enough yet...my mom would consider me a tatoo-festooned freak show... -
I like the lettering ^^
-
I don't think they look bad together. The fresh one is much darker because it hasn't settled in yet. When it softens up, I think they will look more natural. I think they are both nice. If you keep going to great tattooers, your arm will be great whether you plan out all the rest of it to be cohesive or keep getting separate tattoos.

Ink and Iron convention.
TrixieFaux replied to Dumpleton's topic in LST Get Togethers & Tattoo Conventions
cool, thanks for the info @Lance and @sarapressey. She's a pretty good kid, that is, unless she's bored. We don't need her seeing pole dancers...but we would just avoid that area. She does love tattooed rockabilly chicks. I'll think about it. -
Ink and Iron convention.
TrixieFaux replied to Dumpleton's topic in LST Get Togethers & Tattoo Conventions
Cool thanks, guys. Now I have one more question-- anyone here w/little kids... have you ever brought your kid to Ink & Iron or another convention? On the website it says you can bring them but some areas are 18+. I kind of want to go to Ink & Iron, but I would want to bring the hubby & 5 yr old. We're concerned she might be totally bored, or might see some stuff that scares her (like when we took her to the Kubrick exhibit at LACMA, oops), and/or bother the artists by acting her age... Is there anything for kids to do there or is it just a bad idea?
