  1. We watched this last night. It's nice to see someone like that, who was so brainwashed on the white power stuff and with such a violent past, change so much. A good story. I was looking around the internet today to see how they are doing now. They have a website called "the penance" and at the bottom of the page there's a link to donate to them. They accept all kinds of credit cards. It doesn't seem like they have any sort of charitable organization--like to help others get out of the movement or anything...I think it just goes straight to them which seems kinda lame. But I guess if people want to give them money, good for them.
  2. I'll post a pic in the lowdown from San Rafael!!! End of June... it's not, probably, the one most people here would choose...and it is not the dancing bear either.
  3. I went back and put the link in my original post (#1170) so you or anyone interested don't have to look it up. Have a blast in Brooklyn! Wish we were in Brooklyn today...we have a bunch of friends & family there. Post pics...
  4. haha, thank you! I was reading about the contest on the TAM blog and told @DJDeepFried about it. He encouraged me to write about that time, telling me it was "sure to win". He was right! I don't know how many people are sending in stories, but it's a fun idea. I was following the "Asshole of the Month" contest, too...but had no stories for that. ;)
  5. Looking forward to meeting Paul Dobleman at the end of the month for something small from his Psychedelic Stories contest flash sheet! I'm sure it will make me want to go back for something bigger and custom...but it is a 6-7 hour drive for us. Paul Dobleman: Psychedelic Stories February’s WINNER! | TAM Blog
  6. I tend to agree. I had this journal entry I wrote when I was 22 and got my first tattoo...all about what it "meant". I was drunk when I wrote it and in retrospect it was pretty much cringe-worthy bs. Like you need some kind of back-up reasoning to have the tattoo. You don't! You can just get one (or 20). Liberating. While the symbol may have meaning, universal or just to you, it seems to lose some value when explained. If someone wants to know, I prefer to keep it simple: "interpret it how you wish," or, "I like it."
  7. Now you do! I love them. Future tattoo plans... :)
  8. Here's the result of my 6 sessions with James Spencer Briggs at Memoir Tattoo in Los Angeles. He worked around and improved upon the nautical star with my daughter's name above it that was already there.
  9. yes, girls get tattoos of anything they want. It's not weird. Or if it's weird, who cares? Being normal isn't necessarily something to aspire to.
  10. yes! Tattoos: habit forming and a definite sign of moral depravity. Coffee...maybe not. Just your average old addiction. ;)
  11. hahaha, yes it does look temporary, some of the letters seem to be peeling off. But either way, I'm pretty sure this is what he was thinking:
  12. let tattoos be your only vice! works for me... + coffee
  13. I don't think I can agree to that. *sigh* Spencer was my tattoo artist, for the past-- almost a year... so sad I've had to release him back to the wild. My hair dresser, on the other hand, she is still MINE.
  14. I like it, but we don't go much. Do you remember (or did you ever see) the roller derby reality show "Rollergirls" about the team in Austin? My husband and I watched it but I think it only lasted one season. It was one of the better "reality" shows in my opinion. Last year we took our daughter to a bout here in LA, to see the Derby Dolls. She was only 4 and thought it was too noisy in the main room. We spent most of our time in the room next to it, where they were selling things and there was a punk rock cover band that turned out to be quite fun. Somehow the bout was too noisy, but the loud punk band was just fine for her...she befriended some people in that room and got them to dance with her. And yes, there were tons of tattoos to be seen there, both in the crowd and on the players. And some pretty good ones!
  15. My daughter and I made a secret surprise karaoke youtube video of "Solid" by Ashford and Simpson to post on @DJDeepFried 's facebook page for our 6th wedding anniversary. We had a very small window of opportunity when he left for meditation class Wednesday evening and surprised him with it today! I got my kindergarten students to paint backdrops for it, and I made a beard and mustache attached to a tongue depressor to put up to my face for the Ashford parts. Stella was amazing at keeping a secret for a 5 year old... DJ knew there was a secret but she didn't say what it was. She kept dancing around him and winking at me Wednesday before he left... haha. It was fun.
  16. I agree @else, guys with tattoos are definitely hotter than plainskins. Dh was a already a good lookin' guy BT (before tattoos), but now...
  17. egads! Well, there always have to be extremes... Think I'll show this to my mom the next time she complains.
  18. Finished this tonight...at least for now. Will post more pics once it's all healed. Spencer Briggs at Memoir Tattoo. 6 sessions...great experience.
  19. haha, if only my school would do this. Our mascot is an eagle...maybe I'd get one if only I could get a 15% raise!
  20. There's a lot to consider...? I kind of wish I had read through a thread like this before I got one or two of my older tattoos... LST--guiding us to better tattoos sometimes by talking about bad ones, other times looking at great ones.
  21. Haha. You should be BANNED just for thinking about it. ;) I have a work friend whose husband has his last name huge across his back. Now her son, who I think just turned 18, wants to get the same. She is not down with the idea, but she doubts she can stop her son from doing what he wants. He just wants to follow in his dad's footsteps... I do not think they will be coming to this forum any time soon though.
  22. Last session on my left arm (#6) coming up this Friday. Bittersweet. :):(
