  1. Hi @InkedAshleigh, tattoos in general once meant you were "that kind of girl" to some people but screw all of that. That seems like a great place for a tattoo to me. Which spots aren't common? I have tattoos on my arms, upper back/shoulder, one on my stomach. All the spots are common. Don't regret that placement, life is short. Somebody came up with that stupid name and it caught on because it rhymed. People are dumb.
  2. Our daughter told us we couldn't get the one with the skull on it. "No skulls!", she announced. We got it anyway. Bad parents. If it really freaks her out, we may have to put it aside for a bit until she grows out of this phase. @DJDeepFried was all, "But look honey, it's smiling, it's not scary, it's a cute happy skull!" Still no dice.

  4. As SStu said, they are high profile because they are so good at what they do. So, no, that shouldn't intimidate you! This will be on your skin for the rest of your life... It is worth it to pay more. Save up. I am a public school teacher and I am starting to acquire better tattoos than some of these millionaire celebrities out there. It ain't because I'm rich, it's because I have good taste ;). And yes, you can estimate the cost. When you start contacting artists to see if they will do your tattoo, ask how much they charge. They will usually quote you their hourly rate. Then, you can ask approximately how many hours they think the tattoo will take. They might not know exactly, but you could get a ballpark idea. Good luck!
  5. omg @ironchef, I just saw you won those Tattoo Culture Magazine prints on Instagram! They announced the winner, and I clicked on the person and immediately saw your photo of the cat prints and knew it was you. Congrats.

  7. Sure, ha, I posted a link to it in the upcoming tattoos thread a while back but here it is...a cautionary tale: Paul Dobleman: Psychedelic Stories February’s WINNER! | TAM Blog
  8. Many of you know this already from Instagram, but on Saturday, @DJDeepFried and I (and our little one) drove 7 hours up to San Rafael so I could get my Psychedelic Stories tattoo from Paul Dobleman (Paul Dobleman: Psychedelic Stories Contest 2013 | TAM Blog). You guys did not lie, Spider Murphy's is one of the greatest places on earth. I got to meet a few of the other guys and they were all really cool. Paul was fun to talk to...just a great experience overall. I love the way the tattoo came out. I have now traveled for a tattoo! These were the choices: And this is what I got:
  9. I think it's because jellyfish are so cool looking.
  10. She is so cute. I love little old ladies, especially little old tattooed ladies. I love her plan to live to over one hundred and keep tattooing the whole time. I hope she is able to train her sister's granddaughter to follow in her footsteps.
  11. Have you decided yet? If you do pay for the tattoo, does this mean you can choose the artist?
  12. The new yoga teacher doesn't know your name yet, so refers to you as "Miss Tattoos" during class.
  13. Where are you planning to get the tattoo done? Since Mike Giant isn't tattooing any more, maybe you could get to one of his recommended shops to have a Mike Giant inspired tattoo done: Mike Giant Links
  14. Sounds nice! My husband and I just celebrated our 6th on 5/26. We have been going by the list (choosing from either "traditional" or "modern") until this year... I didn't want anything iron so he just got me a shirt I wanted, but I did get him a shaver he wanted that's metal so that was close enough for us haha. For paper I got him Red Sox tickets, that was a good one. Happy anniversary!
  15. I just got around to watching the Kore Flatmo interview. He had some comments on "pain management" that reminded me of recent comments on this thread. He was talking about the benefits of pain killers and how they are going to become more available in the future: "...When I’m doing a pinup on a guy’s ribs, I don’t want him to move, and if he’s moving that’s going to be a problem. So for this guy, he manages the pain and it allows him to get bigger and better tattoos. And of course the first argument made is, 'well that’s not pure, tattoos need to hurt.' Anyone who makes that argument--they don’t have to use the pain killer. I’ll tattoo ‘em straight up. Right? They don’t have to worry about the other guy’s tattoo. They can worry about their own."
  16. Both of your ideas sound pretty killer... I think there is strength in femininity so, nothing wrong with flowers, etc. in my opinion. But wolves are amazing and beautiful sooooo...yeah, I'm not much help. I would go w/what you said--tell Rose your ideas and let her do the rest, she is amazing, your tattoo will be amazing. Can't wait to see it. Btw...I'm battling some of this type of indecision of my own and considering posting about it here, too...but I'll mull it over a little more first.
  17. I didn't see myself getting heavily tattooed either... um, then I started hanging around THIS FORUM! Anyway, you might find this thread helpful: http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/tattoo-advice/3278-there-anywhere-worth-getting-tattooed-boston.html
  18. I was browsing Paul Dobleman's work and saw these cool peacock feathers and thought it might provide an example of something better than you can find on a google search: (Sorry it's so big!)
  19. Chris Conn sells some rings and other stuff on his website SekretCity: Products – SekretCity International
  20. I tried to reach Thomas Hooper, too... E-mailed him and Saved a couple of times and eventually got a really polite e-mail back from Saved saying he wasn't taking any new clients but thanks for my interest. It would have been difficult, anyway, being on the west coast but we do travel east from time to time. I ended up getting some mandalas & dot work incorporated into my black and grey sleeve and I couldn't be happier with the outcome, seems like it was meant to be.
  21. I just watched this documentary, David Bowie-The Story of Ziggy Stardust. Any other Bowie fans here? http://youtu.be/S_hZ-Z_4ZVg
