  1. this is totally off-topic but it looks like your wife is wearing my favorite yoga top from Lululemon. Good choice for getting tattooed! Looks like you guys had a great experience. Congrats on all the great tattoos.
  2. Last appointment I was there 3:30-11:00pm but wasn't being tattooed the whole 7.5 hours...there was some time for sketching, printing, etc. still, it was pretty long. It was fine, I was just so tired at the end, felt like a zombie.
  3. On a side-note...a friend of ours just got a really big Amanda Wachob tattoo on her arm. While it is not my cup of tea, my friend is over the moon about it so I'm happy for her. As far as Hooper and his style goes, for now I'm just going to live vicariously through @Graeme, because the raven he is getting from him would be what I would want. I am still working on my left arm anyway at least through Feb and will be out of tattoo $ for a while after that! I appreciate everything you have said @Stewart Robson. You know what you're talking about. I am just a collector person who likes finding new artists in the CA area that I didn't know about before whose style I like.
  4. I'm sure some of the "new guys" doing/trying/incorporating this style would give props to the aforementioned. Hopefully, anyway. I have seen others who are good. Considering it is difficult to get in w/Hooper, Jondix etc, esp if you are geographically challenged, it is nice to see others picking up on an aesthetic I really like. It may be a trend but if it is, it's a good one in my view. What about Michael E. Bennett (childthepeacemaker on Instagram)? He is at 2spirit in San Francisco and just guested at NY Adorned. His stuff looks pretty good to my non-tattoo-artist eye and close enough (driving distance) that I could imagine traveling to his location. I'll attach a pic... Online Portfolio: http://2spirittattoo.com/artists/michael-bennett/ EDITED TO ADD: I just noticed Michael Bennett was in @Slayer's original post...whoops, missed it. The photo I used was one of the ones he used. A photo:
  5. I love this stuff. I've been following Brian Gomes on Instagram. He's in Brazil and does similar stuff. https://www.google.com/search?q=brian+gomes+tattoo&hl=en&tbo=d&rlz=1G1GGLQ_ENUS275&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=ySGgUOTNPIe7iwK37oDADg&sqi=2&ved=0CAQQ_AUoAA&biw=960&bih=451
  6. How about just say, "It's open to interpretation. It means whatever you want." I think I'll go with that next time and leave it at that. That's art. What they mean or don't mean to you can be personal--you don't have to explain yourself to anyone. The last person who asked me why I got a tiger I just said, "I liked it." There are things that I associate it with but I just didn't feel like saying any more. Isn't that enough? That we get images that we like. Yeah. I think so.
  7. I work at an elementary school. We have had a bar owner in for career day before. Bar owner vs Tattooer... Idk, both are legit careers. Undertaker too, though that would have scared me as a kid. I could see not allowing prostitutes & pimps in for career day ;-) but if I were the principal I'd let a tattooer talk about the profession for sure.
  8. Not so fast! I thought he meant between Ian & Scott. But then Graeme himself said he wasn't here to make friends before you did, so if was open to everyone he should vote for himself. @Graeme could you clear up this confusion. You either need to give yourself a vote or @ian or @Scott R could still win your precious vote. You probably already voted for them didn't you? And whenever someone says they're not here to make friends I drink an imaginary shot, so thanks, I've just had 2.
  9. holy shit, Scott. Soooo the laser was all worth it then? Haha, you don't have to answer that!
  10. I've had Bactine used on me halfway through longer sessions with amazing results--I could not even feel I was being tattooed any more, just heard the buzzing. Love that stuff!
  11. Never noticed this thread before... just read through all of it. I'm Janet and I'm 43. I grew up in small town Connecticut, then moved to Boston for 11 years where I majored in acting, moved around the city a lot, worked many places--the longest run was at a billiard club, and sang in a fun 50s girl-group/rockabilly type band. Then I moved to Los Angeles and I've been here going on 14 years. I teach kindergarten in the inner city. Went back to school to get my master's in education a few years ago. I am into music, esp punk/indie/rock... QOTSA is a good example of a favorite band although David Bowie is my all time favorite (pre-80s). I love animals --don't eat meat or buy anything leather, and I get a lot out of Bikram yoga. My husband ( @DJDeepFried) and I have been together 10 years, married for 5 1/2, and we have an awesome 4 1/2 year old daughter & 2 cats. I can be cynical and skeptical but I'm also positive, open-minded, enthusiastic, and sporadically silly. Whew, that's a lot to sum up in 1 post. Here's a pic of me I recently found from my younger punk rock days (~'86):

    Hiya :)

    Hi, nice to meet you!
  13. Would have liked to hear more of what Richard had to say but I guess what's the point... since the contestants don't seem to listen. They were all acting like traditional is "easy" but then were not able to do it. Those messed up flags were depressing. Or "jacked"!
  14. Kind of! Yeah I would have to agree x10. That's who's doing my left arm (tiger, lotus, mandala...). Aside from being amazingly talented, he is a great guy to chat with. I've got 4 sessions down...2 to go. His card reads: "I'm not the cheapest, just the slowest."
  15. Nice werewolf paws! My daughter's going to be a mermaid. I think I'll be a witch. We put up our Halloween lights last night and still have yet to get our pumpkins for carving. Next weekend we're going to a harvest festival w/hayrides and stuff...should be fun.
  16. "tats" listed in the first post on terms that make you cringe: http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/general-tattoo-discussion/718-slang-terms-make-you-cringe.html Of course, if you watch the Oliver Peck interview, he says it a million times. But then, he's allowed. haha
  17. When you're so psyched to go to yoga because you'll be able to look at your own tattoos in the mirrors throughout the class. It's also a good place for planning out your next one(s)...
  18. Spencer added another lotus, a lily pad, and some cool background mandala stuff to this last night. He also put some negative space around where my daughter's name already was, by the top... now I have to wait until January to continue. Funny how first I asked for a tiger coming down my upper arm. Then he had all these ideas I liked so it grew into what was going to be a 1/2 sleeve. Now... there have been more cool ideas and it's going to be 3/4. By the time it's done, we should have a better camera.
  19. Session 4 on my left arm tomorrow. Yeah! Then Spencer goes away for 2 months. Looks like I'll have a final appointment in January. I'm starting to get used to going frequently, that will be a long wait.
