  1. As for awesome things, @DJDeepFried and I saw the Dalai Lama speak yesterday at the Forum in LA. It was great. He's a pretty charming human. (Sorry, old news if you are on our Instagram.)
  2. Good stuff! I quit drinking 4 years ago, it was a very good idea, so glad I did it. Just gets better.
  3. Raven, jewels, roses, blackberries
  4. From Kim Saigh's instagram, progress from Saturday...maybe one more session to go:
  5. @ian,sorry to hear you've been going through some tough times. And you are right, kindness is never a bad idea.
  6. Personally, I don't care how long bigger pieces take--the artist can take as long as they need to finish it to their satisfaction. They are professionals. I save up enough per session and get tattooed once a month or maybe skip a month here and there until they say it's done. I don't really like to tally up exactly how much it cost in the end, I just like to see a good tattoo. I do know approx how much each session will be and that is helpful. I was at the shop 8 hours yesterday working on my arm...it was maybe my 3rd session on it and I believe there's 1 to go. Yay! So psyched. @DeadSpot, the specific thread titled "plainskins say the darndest things" is not to make fun of what newbies who are looking to get tattooed say, it's more like shit my mom says--and other people who have never and most likely will never be into tattoos. And it was meant to be light hearted and funny, not mean spirited. Not seeing the point in calling anyone names. IMO @Graeme is often right, if a little blunt.
  7. Yeah, I don't know that she booked with me the first time because of our mutual friend. I emailed her via her website email/form. In my email I told her what I wanted and I did mention the mutual friend. It may have helped, but maybe she would have tattooed me anyway. Either way, it's always fun. I have an appointment w/her on Saturday. Your Ganesh looks amazing!
  8. Ha, we'd love to meet you. He (or we) will be going up to everyone there, "Lance? Lance?" Wait, wasn't there supposed to be some type of code word for LST-ers to find each other in a crowd? I do have an LST t-shirt...
  9. That could be a good plan. I don't really know what's too much, guess it depends on the person. I have a friend who really wanted a tattoo from someone I've been tattooed by who is sometimes hard to reach. She emailed him and he didn't reply. I put in a good word for her w/him and he told me I could give her his cell number. So she texted and left him a voicemail...didn't hear back. I didn't know what to do because I had already put in a good word and I didn't want to bother him... well, she just kept on texting and calling him and eventually, he responded. He joked with me later that her persistence paid off. Anyway, she's very happy now because she's getting some big stuff from him. He is totally laid back and sweet though, I think he just doesn't reply if he doesn't feel like it, I have no idea! But he wasn't mad about the texting or calling. And I'm not certain how many calls and texts she put in--it wasn't like several a day or anything crazy, but I'm thinking maybe once a week or so.
  10. I just realized I'm getting a tattoo that day (the 8th)! D'oh. Hadn't looked at the calendar for March in a while. Just been focusing on my upcoming Feb 22nd appointment. Can't really cancel a tattoo to go to a tattoo art show. @DJDeepFried will probably still go though, I might be able to go after.
  11. Finally saw Tattoo Nation last night. Thought it was pretty great. Nice to be able to hear Mark Mahoney talk again... And see how black and grey came to be so prevalent.
  12. My mom has said similar things. It's frustrating. How someone who is otherwise smart, funny, a good mom... can be so judgmental based on choices adults make for their own skin! Not sure how to get that through her head, or if it's possible. Back in the 80s when I was a teenager, before I had any tattoos, my mom was embarrassed being with me in public because of my black mohawk, and she said I dressed "like a bag lady". Now she likes my hair but I have tattoos, the horror. Shallow. I love the look of tattoos with a white wedding dress. Then again, black wedding dresses are cool, too. What-EVER! :D
  13. @DJDeepFried and I can't go to the opening as we are not Museum members, but we will probably go on the 8th...
  14. Sounds like you are on the right track, look forward to seeing the tattoo. Nothing to fear, it's all very exciting!
  15. Becoming obsessed with the idea of getting one of these tattooed... Still working on right arm, two appointments to go coming up in Feb & March. Getting up to San Jose not easy. Maybe one day?
  16. huh. Aside from the suspenders I don't, um, have any issues with this young man... Of course, he's got nothing on you @DJDeepFried :D.
  17. How about letting them know in an e-mail, giving it a chance to sink in a bit before having to see or talk to them in person? I got my first tattoo at 22 and my mom hated it. I'm 44 now, still getting tattoos, and my mom still hates them and tries to argue with me about it. I argue a little and laugh it off. She loves me anyway and I love her anyway! I post my tattoos on facebook. At first I was blocking my mom from seeing them (I figured I'd protect her from having to see something that would upset her) but now I don't block her because I figure maybe it will desensitize her. Hasn't worked yet, oh well. My dad, on the other hand, is very supportive of anything I do and thinks my tattoos are cool. Yay dad!
  18. Hi! I lived in Well for a semester in college oh way back when. I love your country!
  19. Rainbow owls sounds kind of sweet. I've seen worse ideas put into action. Ah well, to each his own.
  20. If you don't go in expecting much, which of course we didn't, the show can be kind of funny. We appreciate the dry sense of humor of the British piercer, especially. Good show to fall asleep to. As much as I'm sure it is staged like all tv is--it still pretty much captures the essence of Hollywood and Venice.
