  1. I fucking love that @jade1955 just gets tattooed by every incredible goddamn tattooer that comes through London! ON TOP OF IT.
  2. Lots of gems on this page.. personally, I like the angel rape backpiece.
  3. That's awesome! I think so much of it is mental and if you're not in the right head space, it'll just suck all around. Can't wait to see the finished product!
  4. @Scott R, fantastic. Regarding the sitting and probably more importantly getting tattooed by Stell. Great job dude. Photos?
  5. Yeah, the weird ambivalence I feel with this kind of thing makes me think immediately of Pendleton blankets (and, more specifically their new Portland collection that just came out and caused a huge ruckus... my wife is into clothes.. a lot.. so I hear about things..) As far as designs go, this is actually what Pendleton did from the beginning; creating non-specific native-looking designs that appealed to both white folks and tribal people -- and were hugely successful for both -- and for many tribal people the blankets became important (and still are) for certain milestones, even though they weren't tribal specific. Also, I have a buffalo head and skull with feathers tattoo, planning to add a couple other things to it and still want a native lady head tattoo. I just wondered if anyone had discussed these types of tattoos or if it's simply a non-issue at this point.
  6. Pictures would be great to include, but originally wanted to start a conversation about the designs themselves. I love a native lady head simply cause they're pretty but what's the consensus on whipping up random designs that simply look Native American? You can usually find a chief/lady head design on old flash and they've been a staple of "tattoo history" for a long time. It seems like a fine line though; throw a headdress on em, some face paint and a slouchy shirt with some beadwork and there you go. Is there a worry that we're appropriating a culture that remains essentially unrepresented in America? Has anyone with a Native-themed tattoo ever received any feedback from a Native person? How about some of the strictly graphic designs that have been popping up lately? Should I have just not started this thread and leave the whole thing alone? Sort of a big conversation to have but I'd really love to know what you all think.. or if you've even thought about it at all. Also, anyone know Jack Red Cloud's story? I think he's discussed in the McCabe NYC Tattoo book but I leant that out to a friend.
  7. Specifically for @dcostello and the long lost @MsRad
  8. Came home last night after burgers and beers, poured a glass of whiskey and turned on the TV. Flipped around and saw the show, caught it about 5 minutes after it started, watched the thing and laughed my ass off. Pretty funny stuff and yeah, it's a TV show, so it's gonna be.. just like a TV show. The best part was the names. HEATHER SIN, B-TATS, AL FLICTION.. Al Fliction is barely clever.. by like the narrowest of margins.. AL FLICTION!!
  9. Well that's too heartwarming for me to say "never." So I'll modify my answer, if they're into it and the time and circumstance is right.. First part would be having kids though haha.
  10. Dari, if we have kids I'd probably be more inclined to get a tattoo for them, instead of letting them tattoo me. Hurts bad enough when a skilled adults tattooing you, can't imagine a less dexterous pair of six year old hands drilling into my skin!
  11. Reading through this was the best way to start today. Grandpa rules and that black/blue koi is killer (as is the hannya). Thanks for sharing dude!
  12. Oh yeah, and when I first started getting tattooed at the ripe old age of 18, I used to always have dreams that they would rub off. The dream would basically be me waking up and seeing them smeared on the sheets or just sliding off my skin. I don't know what that means other than perhaps I want to have sex with Dr Benway's dad..
  13. Nice dude, great little story, too.
  14. Dude, this is the second time you've brought up some derogatory shit about black folks. First time was in the knuckle tattoo thread (http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/tattoo-101/244-knuckle-tattoos-best-youve-seen-your-current-fav-page12.html).. It's not about "being PC" it's about not spreading negativity or racism just to be funny or get a rise out of people.. I'm sure you joke with your friends about some things, and when I'm around my good friends, we talk a lot of bullshit about pretty much everything, but we know the limits of what's considered funny within our group.. and that's probably where you should keep your love of ignorant knuckle tattoos and whatever else you wanna do to "continue the hatred." I'm sure you didn't mean anything by it –– I'm hoping you didn't mean anything by it –– but it's tough to see through that kind of bullshit on the internet.
  15. Had a pretty hilarious "tattoo nightmare" last night. Don't feel obligated to wade through my subconscious insecurities here, but I bet I'm not alone here and I'm sure you tattooers have work nightmares. Anyone wanna share? (C'mon @Perez, you can't tell me those loft murals didn't invade your dreams..) So here's the dream: Went to a reputable shop to get two small tattoos and asked for the line drawing because it was my wife's birthday and the tattooer wrote Happy Birthday on it for whatever reason. He said he wasn't sure I would treat it right and I promised I would frame it and give it to her as a birthday gift. One of the tattoos was on my leg so I simply detached my legs from my torso ("I can't believe I never thought of this sooner!") so I could sit and watch without feeling a thing. Everything seemed cool, and then I went to pay and it was super crowded. The counter guy was talking really quietly and I finally got close enough to hear him say, "Ninety fifty." Huh? "Nine thousand fifty dollars." I tried to explain I just got two smallish tattoos, and only brought about a thousand bucks with me, which I figured would be more than enough. He said the tattooer was concerned because I was disrespectful and had some really "questionable work." The other people behind the counter (there were like a dozen and they were all dudes.. true nightmare..) were all just kind of talking and the one dude said, "Listen, they're all arguing about it now and it's gonna be a few weeks before they decide on a price." Right then, I realized I'd scheduled an appointment with a dude doing a guest spot for that day.. though apparently I decided to just get em done earlier? And then the dude came in the door and I decided I needed to get the fuck outta there. So I booked.
  16. @ShawnPorter, nice one! Also terrifying. I'll be in Philly and will only purchase one since you insist on not making a shirt with your squidpants drawing.
  17. Just personal preference dude! Personally, I haven't decided if I'm gonna ass-and-hammie it up when I get to my back. I'll figure it out when I get there.
  18. The wife just got a really nice lady head/airplane from Cris Cleen. Regardless your opinion of the dude it's a brilliant tattoo! So much of "the itch" is made that much more itchy by who you're surrounded by. Especially when your lady is getting tattooed and is really stoked on it. Our door guy at the bar just started a whole backpiece and me and his brother-in-law (the other bartender) basically spent like 20 minutes getting giddy over the iphone picture and then just talking about random tattoo shit. It's all so positive and exciting I almost can't handle it. It's great to have others to... get itchy with.
  19. If this is real.. I'm more than a little worried this dude might have a/some mental handicap/s.
