  1. Those shadow puppets are urrywhere.. And whoever said Russian prison/-related tattoos (Shawn? Everyone else?) were dead on. Funny how things peak. Pique.
  2. Clipse is the only exception. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFJpwBTpkLY
  3. Jacob Des at Truth and Triumph in Dayton does some fun stuff! Not terribly close, but road trips rule Truth and Triumph Tattoo - Local Business - Dayton, OH | Facebook And also yeah, Kore Flatmo. Unrelated, I spent many a day as a kid running around the super flat fields in Bowling Green. Nothing but great memories.
  4. I enjoyed this more than I thought I would, even with the "profiles" nonsense, it was still fun to look at and listen to. Nice Tuesday morning so far.
  5. What's better than the super bowl/watching sports any other day? Getting this cut out dagger today. Tattooed by Pete Triolo who usually works out of Built for Speed in Orlando.
  6. In conclusion, movie = hopeful and uncertain, book = I need to read it again but think it was a bit more uncertain if not slightly doomed.
  7. This dude sounds like an idiot, and I'm sure he's a nice person, and I'm sure I'd craft a better response if I didn't just come off a 12 hr. shift at the bar. I'd have to read it again but I did see it as a bit more ambiguous than the movie made it; I thought the movie made it very hopeful. The Road was a beautiful story and the father and son relationship was so stunning to me because it could be so stark and serious, but so deep and strong. The "shifty eye look" I'd take to mean the man is unsure of whether they can actually provide the right care to get him (and all of them) along in the future.. more uncomfortable than sneaky. Man, this blogger dude really sounds like a 12 year old. Good thing he is "a member of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG)" with "a strong interest in Theoretical Physics, especially quantum physics." And is also a "Huge movie buff, a bit of a foodie and a travel addict." I apologize, I'm half drunk and half cranky and it bugs me when people write in CAPS to stress POINTS they've not thought more than TWO SECONDS about before "PUBLISHING" online.
  8. @Scott R, those are great! Ok less talking, more showing. A big back and a painting from Bailey Robinson. I'm sure most of you know his blog already, but just in case: Copper Beehive – Tattooing by Bailey Hunter Robinson
  9. @ShawnPorter, just realized your hootenanny is on Friday night, we'll be there Saturday. D'oh.
  10. Don't know where they got the term "dream catchers," but there's a Navaho story about spider woman giving a charm to a pair of twin war gods on a journey to find the sun. I don't have a first-hand story, but it actually pops up in Campbell's Hero with a Thousand Faces. "She gave them a charm called 'feather of the alien gods,' which consisted of a hoop with two life-feathers (feathers plucked from a living eagle) attached, and another life-feather to preserve their existence." There was also a magic formula she taught them. I don't know if this was strictly a Navaho story or if there are similar stories from other tribes. Don't know about you, but Feather of the Alien Gods sounds about ten thousand times cooler than dream catcher.
  11. That's the single most sexist thing I've read in recent memory. My wife just laughed her tattooed ass off. Seriously unfortunate, we should probably stop clicking on that link...
  12. Seems to me (and this was kind of the original issue I wanted to pose) that it's actually the opposite and can be disrespectful because it's an outsider's two-second take on an entire culture that we just decided is "neat." Less a love of it, more a stereotyping of it. ..like Peter Pan. The lady head thing is kind of the worst offender, because it makes no sense -- but I still love those tattoos! I'm guessing it was never the point to be correct, just to draw a great design. And it certainly worked! I'm glad there seems to be a generally positive response, especially what @Shmitty pointed out with the drawings at his station. And that PENDLETON PANTHER is pretty great! And Stitch, there are usually at least a few good books on the day-to-day of certain tribes from "back in the day" as well as their mythologies and adventure stories, which are awesome. Reading is an easy first step.
  13. Upon a very quick perusal, this dude is indeed fucking hilarious. Some gems: Regarding new year's resolutions: If you think you suck, fucking stop sucking immediately. Women, I'm pointing at you and your motherfucking diets- there's no goddamned time like the present. Regarding overconfidence: It worked like a charm, but I fucked the dog on the bench due to the same demon that plagued me throughout the meet- overfuckingconfidence. This, of course, shouldn't surprise anyone, given my philosophy of being a giant dick, going huge and strutting around like Little Lord Fontelroy. On Gandhi: In case you're unaware, Gandhi was a diminutive Indian man who hated black people and was ironically the inspiration for the tactics used in the US civil rights movements. And on that note, I'm off to the gym to un-freeze my account from a 3 month hiatus that has left me with little lady arms and a huge gut. Letting yourself go after tying the knot is not a joke my friends. The worst part is having to start off slow.. though I've never gotten super into intense workouts. A little jog, some heavy bag, some weights, usually do a 5 or 6 mile run mid-week. So I suppose now's the time to do it right! I'll check out some of the links posted previously but any more are appreciated!
  14. Buddy of mine just bought a bottle of this after having regular Johnny black for the first time and loving it.. Pretty sure he is now into whiskey and I am gonna go right ahead and take total credit for that. Can't wait to try the double.
  15. Yeah but you're an Okla-homie! Also, @asradin, nice one! I got tattooed by Todd when he was doing a little guest spot at Smith St. a few years ago. It was actually the very day that Michael Jackson died, I got a text halfway through the tattoo and told him and it's possible that's why my raven has a yellow beak.. still an incredible tattoo though!
  16. Haha, also used to work with a dude who would literally stop in the middle of the street while we were carrying a 12 ft ladder and huge work bags to turn and try to talk to women. "Hey beautiful, you so beautiful, you my princess, look at that body--" Dude shut the fuck up! He was also 42. And classy.
  17. Cause you're not a lady. It can be 20 degrees out, my wife still gets "cat called" bundled up in a coat and scarf when she's by herself or even when she's with another female. Funny thing about Americans, they come from all over and have different cultural backgrounds -- which is not to excuse hollerin' at ladies, that shit makes me nuts. So don't worry, Ursula, when you come to NY you'll catch plenty of the same shit you do in FL!
  18. @Scott R: http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/lst-announcements-contests/1771-monthly-contest-best-tattoo-month-january-2012-a.html
  19. Dude that looks incredible! Also, I had to tap out after the outline on my ribs of a much smaller design.. quit making me feel like such a puss.
