  1. You guys put me to shame with my simple tastes! I was however thinking today about once it warms up I'm gonna surround myself with strawberries, cost be damned.
  2. The goods have arrived! I would also be interested in knowing what tattooers think of non-tattooers such as myself having access to these kinds of books/information.. Not like I'm some jerk sporting a bedazzled t-shirt who loves me some "siq tatz" but maybe there's a little ambivalence since I'm not a tattooer..? (Man, I hope I don't get shut down here!)
  3. I've seen a couple people tattooed after they've slathered themselves in Emla and looks like the skin gets a little hamburger-y.. I've got some big open spaces left and am a little interested in the Maxilene for any future big work.. seems like it gets harder and harder to sit the older I get.
  4. I know most of you are well aware of Mr. C.W. Eldridge's importance as tattooer/historian/historical figure himself, but just wanted to toss up a quick little link to his Tattoo Archive home page which is a phenomenal resource. Just ordered a couple new things from here as well as from Book Mistress. It's so important that histories are preserved but I feel privileged to be allowed access to what will one day be called sacred texts and secret histories..if they're not already. As I'm not a tattooer, it feels extra tough to be taken seriously when it comes to anything tattoo-related –– as it should be –– so I'm just glad Mr. Eldridge doesn't discriminate when it comes to both preserving as well as educating. Also a great quick online reference. Thank you sir. One day I'll get down to NC.
  5. Quick note on this, in Steve Gilbert's Tattoo History book there's a chapter called "Arabs, Jews and Christians" which talks a little bit about tattooing in those traditions. I was always really interested in the early Christian tattoos/symbols(/history) and Gilbert prints a short section from a book Coptic Tattoo Designs by John Carswell with some really beautiful basic designs kept on woodblocks, used like stencils.. kept in the Razzouk family who had, it seems, been tattooing for generations at that point in Jerusalem. Just ordered Coptic Tattoo Designs off of Mr. CW's Tattoo Archive and am pretty pumped. Guessing it's basically just copied pages from the Carswell original, but still pretty stoked! If I had a scanner, I'd insert some pictures.. really love the old designs.

  9. Just saw this thread and headed out the door -- will need some time to contribute!
  10. Hawk, come tell stories by the fire already. Seriously though, really enjoying reading your posts.. listing every event would certainly be a thick book, but I would read the shit outta that book.
  11. Aha!! Good to see you dude.

  12. Good Christ that was a great rant! Well said and dead on. And I actually read the whole thing. All you need is some spaces and punctuation and you've got yourself a master's thesis.

    Values

So heavy for a Sunday morning. I fail at this all the time, but for me, at a really basic level, comes back to treating other people with how you want to be treated. Call it the Golden Rule that's so often associated with Christianity but it's an idea that has pervaded almost every religion, past and present.. Buddhism, Hinduism.. It applies to almost anything you can think of: holding back some negative comment, giving a homeless dude a cup of coffee and a bagel, working an extra few minutes to get a job done, not trying to swindle anyone. And I've found those days I really make an effort and try to stay positive it makes a huge difference in my own quality of life. The joke about me between my friends and girlfriend is that I'm an angry, grumpy old man stuck in a 27 year olds body. But so much of the time I'm angry or grumpy because of something I perceive as not treating others (or myself) right. Cable companies trying to bilk the last dollar out of everybody, advertising trying to sell poison to the public, even someone just being blatantly rude or offensive. I can't think of how to boil it down, really. I do have "Faith, Hope, Love" tattooed on me..maybe that's it. I'm surprised I replied to this post -- thanks Jake for making my brain work on a cloudy Sunday morning.
  14. Panther Knuckle could be a band/sexy euphimism.. Jen, dig that panther Richard did.. spot pattern is awesome!
  15. Lochlan, have you seen this? Stumbled upon it on Tim Hendricks' blog. http://www.soiclave.com/selfmade/
  16. I would also recommend erring on the side of caution but of course I'm going to contradict myself here. Personally, I've had no problem with swimming at the week-and-a-half mark, after the tattoo has flaked and has that thin, shiny layer of healed skin. But it was only for a few mins. at a time, and I would've certainly waited longer had I not been in 100 degree heat and right next to a pool. And I only did it once and was really nervous about it. The thing is, everyone's different, and and I would certainly be more cautious than not. If he's still healing/scabby/flaky I'd say avoid the water altogether. So uh... just go with what Wedge said.
  17. I'd heard so many people shit talk this movie before I saw it and turns out I was really into it. Only saw it once (last wk.) and our general consensus is that he was dreaming the entire thing.. but the second consensus is that we really needed to watch it again. So his wife is............alive???
  18. INTENSE. And Wedge, those are some super nice ladies! Stefan does some good ass tattoos and I KNOW I've seen some of these before..
