  1. Dude honestly it doesn't look abnormal and just looks like you need to heal. The red areas are probably more red because he went lighter (super light..) with the outline in those spots. Rule #1 to healing -- for the most part: Leave it the fuck alone.
  2. Could just be how you heal. A friend of mine has a strip of skin on her arm where color always falls out and it hurts about ten times more. Humans are weird.
  3. khubilai -- are your other tattoos also raised once healed? I initially heal a full tattoo in about a week and a half, but then it usually takes a couple more weeks with that thin layer of skin that's got a bit of a shine to it. Also, if you're like the rest of the world, you'll get weird spots that once healed will randomly decide to raise for half a day or something. This is something I know happens to a lot of people though I've never found a good reason why.
  4. HAHAHAA LADY SUIT! You two both make great points. I'd obviously choose to be with an amazing person regardless of tattoos and, especially with what MsRad said, that seems to hold true for most others, too. As it obviously should. I just happened to luck out with both.
  5. So, we grew up in the same house? I got bluebirds on my chest and after a truly devastating first semester at college, I moved back home. My mom came into my room in the morning -- without knocking! -- while I was asleep and saw a wing peeking up out of my t-shirt. She started shouting at me, emptied the laundry basket on top of me, and ran downstairs. Now, almost TEN YEARS LATER, she seems almost proud that I've become this kind of tattooed oddity. She just sent me some page from the Washington Post magazine about the Baltimore Tattoo museum hahahahaaa -- the first time she's actively showed an interest in anything tattoo-related!
  6. These are all really great and thoughtful responses. Hogg, I'm right there with you, though I'm probably toeing the line between tattooed and heavily tattooed. WeRn, you made the point better than me, about having sharing something that's a big part of your life. I'm not a tattooer myself, but it tends to take over sometimes and I can't imagine being with someone who doesn't understand or at least tolerate it. Kenny, I like your perspective. I think you're dead on and if a girl has a good head on her shoulders like you said, of course she'd be the type you could share your passion for tattoos with.
  7. This may be a weird thread but what the hell. I've always been interested in people who are tattooed who are in a relationship with someone who is not tattooed at all. Unlikeyourown's feminism and tattoos thread got me thinking about this. So a.) are you in one and have you been in one? b.) Have you thought about this or noticed a change in preference since you've gotten older..? and c.) do you feel like there would be any kind of disconnect there? It seems like such a personal thing as opposed to say, an interest in old typewriters, I wonder if it would make any difference at all. I'm guessing not, since I know people in these relationships. When I was younger (and only had a few tattoos) I used to not be into girls with tattoos at all. Now I think I'd only be into tattooed ladies.. as evidenced by my tattooed future wife. Does it ever make a difference? Anyone??
  8. Capt, what brought you to Japan?
  9. This rules! Also, they have a link to the whole Stoney Knows How video.
  10. Without a doubt, we're all socialized to fulfill pretty accepted roles. Dudes can walk away or be rude, ladies have to smile uncomfortably and still be polite. It's also gotta affect those that are doing the approaching.
  11. OH GOD I'D FORGOTTEN ABOUT THE NIPPLES. Not tattooed over, but about half an inch away.. felt like fiery stone arrowheads wielded by that creepy thing from The Cell.
  12. One day, I'll be an "old timer collector." You get any pictures?
  13. Hogg, that Chris Brand back piece is fucking killer. This thread is only making it more difficult to wrap my head around even starting to think about what will go on my back. Which is good, actually.
  14. Same comment here: I'd say my lady gets 100% more attention. She comes home fuming about dudes on the train obviously staring at her tattoos and she even gets approached when we're together. Not saying it's always some lecherous weirdo, but where I'll get asked maybe once or twice during the year, in the spring and summer it seems like every other week she's got a new story. If someone asks her about them, she's always very polite and directs them to the shop and says thank you (since it's always complimentary). The worst part for her (and I guess uncomfortable for me, too) is getting ogled on the train or in a restaurant. Watching someone's eyes following the lines, or turning their head to see what it is. It's not too bad in New York but there's no accounting for poor manners. Luckily, neither of us have ever gotten the ignorant, accusatory comments. Comes with the territory. But c'mon..
  15. I always start this and then lose interest/lose the cards. This could be a thing for 2011 to start at the Philly convention -- now I just need a place to put em..
  16. Who doesn't want that? I remember walking into Chops' shop Hold Fast when it briefly existed here in BK for a couple years (if that?). I picked up Bailey Robinson's book and whatever the "it" was totally got me. This was a few years ago but his slightly folkier style was immediately apparent and I immediately loved it. You've gotta know your clients but it seems like you should include the tattoos you want to tattoo.
  17. What's up Beaux -- still have yet to venture over to Daredevil. I'll have to stop by the booth in Philly and say what's up!
  18. The older I get, the less I can sit. I'm also 100% convinced that Restless Leg Syndrome is a real thing and I have it.
  19. We may need to impose a "no politics" rule on here. You're dead on though but the problem is the terms "left" and "right" are pointless and seem to only serve the media instead of any actual politics... I'm a registered independent because both parties are useless and maybe one day we can get away from a two-party system. I identify with both sides but Republicans today are 180 degrees different from what they were 50 years ago. Hell, 20 years ago. And I've lost it with the Democrats for being a bunch of whiny, gutless, middle ground panderers.. Ok no politics rule into effect............NOW hahahaa
  20. 3 ring binders work, I've seen some folks just pack em full of reference material. Get some plastic sleeves and dividers (if you want to be fancy) and away you go.
