True story. Tattooing clothing brands on yourself or a company name is a whole other issue that has more to do with the frantic materialism that is ingrained in our society.. and while I'd say forehead tattoos are not my thing and I usually think they're a pretty bad choice, it doesn't mean everyone with their face or forehead tattooed has mental problems. Definitely questionable! But not always insane.. except that hello kitty guy. Looks like he might decapitate you.

@MsRad, did you find out how to watch episodes yet? If I had patience for "computer stuff" like most of my friends I could tell you.. The white shoes and baggy jeans bugged me at first, too, but I can appreciate characters that aren't just carbon copies of what the general public thinks of "bikers." Also, Katey Sagal is incredible and in my mind kind of rivals Edie Falco for her role as Carmela. Also, I like Tara, fart face be damned. I remember her from a couple episodes of Mad Men.. weird face but I appreciate that she's interesting looking. ALSO, Opey's wife (first one) was on Six Feet Under as Claire's art school buddy so it was kind of hilarious watching all of that right after SOA. (Catchin' up on a lot of TV here..)

I seriously can't believe I didn't know this thread was on here...

HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS THREAD EXISTED? Me and the lady got all caught up for the new season over the winter/spring. Really wanted to hate it, and it took a few episodes to get going.. But am unrepentantly a huge stupid fan. AND it was my lady who after the third or fourth episode (pretending not to watch it) was like, "PUT THE NEXT ONE ONE!!!" I only wish they didn't play dude rock during the montages, though they did a good job with music choice for that slow motion scene in the market in Belfast with Sun Kil Moon. Pretty heart-wrenching.. SHIT I want to respond to everything individually on this thread! Such a good show, such a man soap opera.. and totally hilarious, too. Opey is probably my favorite dude on the show.

LST's One Year Anniversary
gougetheeyes replied to Barbie Doll's topic in LST Announcements & Contests
Holy shit. And I even have a fucking t-shirt. Congrats to Scott, Loch, Dari, Steve, Tammy and all the others that made it happen. LST is the new addiction.. love it or hate it. Nice job guys. -
Why are you living in my brain>>??
-
@Iwar, Scott did this one on me around January/February.

Hahahaaha Petri, I hope I'm still in NY when you come to NY so we can make the rounds as an awkward, nerdy duo.

Great tattoos Ron. Stoked about the bigger ones you've been doing like Andy's belly and starting that back!
-
HAhahaha I actually laughed when I realized he was drinking out of it. I took it as a joke. And it was even better that he was that committed to the joke... Although shit, maybe the dude carries around a horn to drink beer! He just seems like a hilarious dude. Possibly with ADD. Who does great tattoos.

These keep getting better and better. I also really appreciate that each of these has provided a well-rounded kind of portrait of each tattooer and it kind of hit me that every aspect of your personality comes out in your tattoos. I don't know why this has never struck me before.. but I really love seeing how everything fits together. I wish this project never ended.

HAHAHA more brutal honesty, please

Two new school style bluebirds right smack dab on my chest. I know I told the story in another thread, but pretty funny, 2001, the minute I turned 18, shaky-handed white dude with dreads and I was just stoked he let me choose the music. Nice enough dude though I later made friends with the guy he apprenticed and heard some horror stories. His shop burned down a few months later. The bluebirds made it tough for a larger chest piece but it's all been mashed together pretty decently at this point.

Hogg, you mentioned this before and I think I remember other folks talking about the soaking that's popular in Japan. Totally crazy. I'll definitely try the hot towel thing, though it makes me super nervous!

Professor @Stewart Robson, always a well-crafted and very succinct and thoughtful response. Dead on. I would buy your book of essays and hope they give you tenure. Only thing I will say, is that I know Noon and he's totally nuts and in his own little 9-fingered Frenchman world. A good guy, and his style makes total sense when you meet him and his fanny pack. So goddamn French. It's also hilarious to watch him tattoo -- er, to watch the people he's tattooing because I've never seen people in so much pain. Definitely not my thing, and I find myself questioning the motivations for getting/receiving tattoos like this.. I can't claim to even begin to "get it" and can't identify at all with the folks who want this stuff or like this style. Much more of an "art" thing which I don't think has any permanent place in tattooing. Blip on the timeline.

There are a ton of ladies doing killer tattoos! Yourself obviously, Cristina Garcia, Rose Hardy, Marina Inoue, Annie Frenzel (whose work I was introduced to by Shawn on his OV blog), Sarah Schor, Katie Sellergren, Lizzie at Speakeasy who's on here, the list goes on.. Rough that you've had to overcome the "good, for a girl" mentality, but at least you've been able to essentially CRUSH it into the ground. Lady tattooer thread anyone..?

Infinitely happy when Seinfeld crosses international borders.

@dcostello awesome. Also, one of my favorite rants of all time. For any of those on here that have ever had the pleasure of working and then fighting to get paid, or working and being undercut by amateurs... so relevant across the board.

Here's a short book list thread, too. http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/tattoo-101/713-tattoo-boooks.html You'll also start notice shops that get mentioned a lot on here (Skull and Sword, Black Heart, Frith St., Smith St.) so I would suggest taking a look at their websites.

Ariella, I would suggest checking out some books/magazines (magazine thread here: http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/random-crap/956-best-worst-tattoo-magazines.html), reading some interviews and poking around online or even portfolios on here. Once you see enough nicely executed tattoos, it won't even be a question in your mind about how that dragon could be translated as anything but atrocious, even from a simple design standpoint. What makes a good tattoo is definitely not a trade secret. All it takes is a little effort and research, and once you've been exposed to more than what's walking around your town, it'll be like a big smack on the forehead. If my little sorority sister can start to "get it" after looking at a few shop links, anyone can "get" it.

Is this possible? I need people to know immediately when I zing them in other threads they might not see.

Sure..................but there's a lot wrong with that poor dragon.
