Hey Paul D, I'm going to assume that while you may have the best intentions you also may be blissfully unaware of suffering from the tourist affliction that's been mentioned.. Taking photos of tattoos is about as much of a "thing" as having tattoos and getting your photo taken; kinda neat, somehow (still??) kinda "in" and for those of us that either have tattoos or make a living tattooing, kinda confusing. I'm sure you didn't mean to walk in and offend anyone, but for now I'd spend my time treading lightly and simply browsing through the threads and interviews. Lots of great content on here and some incredible resources. Good luck!

@Bunny Switchblade that's awesome. And funny that the old vets are more interested in talking about your tattoos! Every time I think, "Screw it, it's hand tattoo time" or, "This year's the year for neck!" the second I think about it, I know I need to wait. It's good to hear that you're one of those that's been thoughtful and reflective about your decisions and it sounds like they've been the right ones! Now.. more importantly.. apprenticeship?!?

BUMP. We'll be in SF proper Sept. 16-20th. I'm pretty sure I will not be getting tattooed on this trip (at least nothing big) since all my open spaces would be super uncomfortable. ..though I'm still gonna drag the wife into Black Heart. We're definitely down for dinner or drinks or both if anyone's around! We're staying pretty close to the 24th St. Mission BART -- let's do this. Also, I'll go back and check all the other SF/Oakland blogs/threads on cool stuff to do. Stoked for this!

(In conclusion, raised tattoos are common, especially in certain weather, nothing to freak out about.)

Check out Hardy Marks publishing, the Rollo book, the NYC book. A great one (that I just now realized I lent to a friend) is Taki's Tattooing from Japan to the West, just a fun overview type interview book from a little while back, lots of cool stuff in there. And Underway is the Only Way if you can get it, can't remember if it's outta print or what, but that's a killer tome.

The wife got a little'n from Perez and I struggled through some little finger bangs (ahem) from him while I tried not to shit my pants too much because Electric is an incredible shop.
