he's been there almost 10 years now i think.. maybe more like 8.. either way, he's been there for a long time! the photos on the website haven't been updated in a couple years too, so not all the artists listed currently work there and some who do aren't listed. He also doesn't work at the location listed on the site, he's at the 'Atlantic' location.

There is also heavy motorcycle gang activity in Canada, especially ontario which has a few different border crossings to the USA. -
CBSA - Gang and Prison Tattoos Handbook
Ursula replied to aleksksks's topic in Tattoo Designs, Books and Flash
here's the thing about Canada... most of us do not sound like South Park, the ones who do are fucking hilarious though and get made fun of even by us Canadians.. we do have gang activity. what happens a lot of young people trying to imitate the gangs they see on t.v. shows from the USA. I remember in high school a group of shitty 16 year old white kids claiming to be crips. That lasted about a week and ended when they realized no one believed them or was scared of them hahaha.. but for real, there are scary parts of canada, especially in the larger cities like Toronto, Winnipeg and Vancouver. There are areas of those cities that I (as a skinny white chick) would not go to alone late at night. We also have the problem sometimes of south american immigrants who are gang members coming to Canada to chill for a bit when shit gets too real wherever they were at previously. It seems like since this was put out by the border control they are likely trying to cut down on immigrants who may be criminals in another country from entering Canada -

I know all about the ties to your country. it took me almost 2 years to get my american visa to come and live here. it's a lot of bullshit. if you're wanting a design so you can go get it tattooed there's nothing wrong with getting something off the internet. I didn't mean copy something online and start making prints or some bullshit. That's not how I choose my tattoos and it's not what I do but it is what thousands of tattoo customers do. It's a way to show someone what you want without trying to explain it in words. The only way to "own" these designs is to buy the books and prints you claim you have no use for. It confuses me why you think you need to buy a design to be able to get it tattooed on you. If you want to own flash designs as a customer go on tattoo elite and buy a set of flash??

April 2012 Best Tattoo of the Month Contest
Ursula replied to Lochlan's topic in LST Announcements & Contests
damn it must be the spring air 'cause mother fuckers are setting it off this month! Love that Panther by Oliver. -
There's a reason you can't just buy one single good tattoo design without buying the whole book or flash set. It's because people who aren't tattooers or artists don't need to own this stuff. The tattooers out there, who are actually doing good work, don't need to sell designs one by one to people who are just going to take that design and get a fucking awful version by their local scratcher. The great tattooers of our time don't need the measly 2 cents per digital design sold through web sites like tattoodles. That's why all the online flash is pretty bad for the most part. Do a google search for "Sailor Jerry flash" and you'll get hundreds of designs for free that are way better than the shit you have to pay for on these websites. It's like Lochlan said, the great tattooers of today are out there, and many of them are easy to find, easy to get tattooed by, and many of them don't charge any more than most other tattooers. Also, if you're going to a good tattooer, who knows their shit, all you have to do is name the person who did the flash you saw on Tattoo Elite and they should know what you're talking about. Chances are they might own the book 'your' design is in. Or, go on Tattoo Elite, bring up the picture of the design, take a screen capture, print it out and there ya go. As far as apps go, the only respectable tattoo shop I know of that had an app was New York Adorned. I think it was called tattoo of the day or something. Not sure if it still exists or what the content was like. p.s. I don't know about Tim's specific travel schedule but you can always contact him to see if he will be tattooing in a country closer to you at a convention or something. I do know that he books up usually very far in advance at home and at conventions. Also, I'm pretty sure if you like in the UK you do not need a visa to enter the USA as a visitor. Unless you are a criminal, then you won't be allowed. I don't know anything about the UK but how close in Manchester to London? Some member of the forum work at Frith Street tattoo in London and they do amazing work.

that's usually how it goes with any of those flash finder things. best thing is always just to go to a shop. if you really can't decide if it's a good idea to get a tattoo or not, then it's probably not.

theres some apps like this already. i don't know what they are called. just search 'tattoo' in the iTunes app store.

On the skin candy website it does list them as a seller of the ink. I'm assuming that they are just waiting to get around any laws or regulations involving selling needles or machines, or they are just looking for someone to provide them at the right wholesale price points. Maybe they want to start out with just ink and see how it does before launching the Dick Blick Machine or some bullshit. Or maybe they see all the FW they're shipping to tattoo shops and thought hmmm what else can we sell them under the guise of art supplies..... I could see how a non tattoo art person would make the mental jump from paint to tattoo ink.
-
Just an additional thought after sitting here for a few minutes. I feel like the skin candy company is more at fault. They are in tattooing. They should know better. I understand they probably stand to make a lot of money from this deal. I don't understand selling out an industry that's supported you over the years, even when your product is inferior. If anyone is gonna hate on Dick Blick and send them emails, then we also need to give Skin Candy the same treatment.

I thought only us Canadians knew about cheese curds!

Surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet Apparently one of north America's largest art supply chains will begin selling Skin Candy tattoo inks. Any decent tattooer I know or follow online has been freaking out about this. Apparently the ink is shit and so's the dude who sells it. (I don't know him or even his name). Tattooers worth a fuck have been urging people to visit this link and send them (the art store) an email in hopes of stopping this or at least getting the word out to boycott. Http://www.dickblick.com/customerservice/contact I know, I've never shopped at dick blick and now I never will.

i meant pretty much USA and Canada. I don't know what it's like in Europe or Asia or anywhere else.

I'd put money on saying that probably 90% of religious tattoos in the West have been done by non-religious people, and probably 70% are on people who aren't religious themselves.
-
Concerning the article from Miami about the FL laws. It should be illegal to tattoo out of your home. The tattoos it showed the artist "fixing" were just as bad if not worse than the tattoo he "fixed". Any journalist worth a fuck wouldn't be interviewing someone who's never worked in a shop, never had an apprenticeship, and who doesn't know what the fuck they are doing. So in conclusion, just another bunch of totally ridiculous bullshit. That guy to me, is in the same boat as all the others that we've called "finger breaking worthy".

Not trying to be a dick or anything but..... If he's a good tattooer having a cheap liner off ebay isn't gonna be that big of a deal to him. You could put that money towards a really nice book or something that he'd get more use out of. If you do want to get him a machine you're gonna spend at least $400 to get something worth your while. Fancy, or his fave booze is also always a nice gift for those who partake. Gift certificate for our local Florida tattoo supply would be nice. Lucky's Suppy is based in FL and the guy isn't an asshole. He's let me buy gifts for my tattooer fiancé no problem. If you go on their site, order the gift or gift card and put the mailing address of the tattooer and his shop, plus write a note in the comments section that it's a gift I'm sure they'll understand. That's what I always do. Just goggle 'Lucky's Tattoo Supply Florida'
