  1. There was a show on tv or the internet already based on the idea of a tattoo competition i can't remember if it was timed but i do remember it showcased some great artists and the show was actually kind of good. One episode was two artists had to each do a sleeve on this one guy and then they all got together at a convention and a group of artists and collectors all voted on which one they liked better. I can't remember who was on the show or what happened in other episodes but i remember the tattoos were good. Tattoo Wars or Ink Wars or something like that.
  2. I have also noticed many of these people uploading shitty work aren't even members who are participating in the forums or the blog sections so it makes me feel like they are just trying to post pics in hopes of getting customers, which kind of defeats the purpose of the website...
  3. Ok at the risk of sounding like a huge bitch i'm gonna post this anyways... As far as I know Scott and company started this site to promote good tattooing, and good tattooers. I've noticed lately in the members gallery there have been a lot of bad tattoos uploaded. Is this just going to turn into another tattoo photo gallery where anyone can post photos of every horrible tattoo they do, and then have people thinking that work is good because they saw it on a site that claims to promote only good tattooing? I feel bad when I log on and on the very first page there's awful tattoos being shown. Am I just a horrible person for thinking this or do others feel the same way? I feel like if I wanted to see average bad tattoos I could just do a google search or visit one of the numerous tattoo design websites. Is it wrong to have a moderator removing bad work at the risk of offending the person who uploaded it? We seem not to have a problem telling people in the forums when a tattoo is shit.
  4. I'd be bummed if it was on me. Once you get lots more tattoos from good artists it probably won't bother you as much anymore though. If you let us know where you live I'm sure someone here will know a good artists in that area.
  5. Steve Cribb = good dude.. And Steve, if you're out there lurking you had better fess up homie!!!
  6. Oliver Peck is one of the hosts and I guarantee he's not a corporate asshole just in it for the money. Go watch his interview and then come talk shit. I don't know anything about the show really, and I probably won't watch it as I don't watch t.v. at all really. Also there's already a thread about this which I'm to lazy to find and post the link to.
  7. I wasn't going to post again but after reading everything Kevin wrote back and thinking about it some more I did want to say that yes, my saying you ( @Kevin Campbell) are an asshole or whatever for doing the tattoo was kind of uncalled for. I do still feel the same way about the tattoo but I realize calling someone names doesn't do any good. I do agree with the notion that grown adults should be able to make their own decisions about this type of thing, but these days, especially in America grown adults often are not educated and are not in the mind frame to make those kinds of decisions, especially if they are under the influence of any drugs or alcohol. So basically, I do apologize and take back the "this guy is a dick" comment, but I do not take back my comments on the tattoo and the belief that it should have been turned down. And I did want to say that about the other example of Mike Wilson doing a face tattoo on an obvious 'crazy' person, I feel the same way. He should have probably turned the guy down even if he did come back every day asking for the tattoo. I feel like people wouldn't shit talk him because of who he is, not because they agree with the tattoo. People don't want to burn the bridge to one of our generation's best tattooers, even if they don't agree with something he did. As far as I know, most people at Inksmith are not doing hand and face tattoos on people they don't know and who aren't heavily tattooed. There are one or two people there who will do these tattoos and I feel the same way about them. Anyways, the girl seems to be stoked on her Drake tatt, and hopefully for her sake it will stay that way for a long time.
  8. Cool. Sorry to see you think I'm some kind of moron for using the term "the industry". I guess you haven't realized that tattooing is one these days. Thanks for replying with something intelligent and insightful to help me better understand why you would do a tattoo like that. I think I'm done posting in this thread after this one. Good luck in your career, hopefully this tattoo won't hurt your shop's business. As I've said before in other threads, if you or anyone has a problem with what I've said here feel free to send me a message. I'm sure you're not a horrible person, I just personally think you made the wrong call on this one, and I only brought it up because of this thread. It's not like I went around the internet calling you a dick hiding behind an anonymous screen name, we're all here having a discussion about an event. People are going to have different opinions. My intention was not to make you feel bad about yourself or your work. I was only expressing my opinion on the matter, as were the other people here. It's not specifically that she got 'drake', I am a firm believer that face and hand tattoos are to be applied only on people you know well, who are also heavily tattooed and fully comprehend what having those areas tattooed means. Anyways whatever, this is just going to turn into a huge argument that I don't want to be part of.
  9. Basically, what Rich said. If you had any integrity as a tattoo artist you wouldn't be doing stuff like that, even if they want it. If you're that good of an artist you shouldn't be worried about loosing the $200 or whatever she spent on it. So yes, @Kevin Campbell, if I was you I would have turned her down and let the shop next door do it. And no, I don't know you and you don't know me, but even if it was someone I knew who did it, I'd feel the same way. My fiancé is a tattoo artist at a very respected shop and if he had done it, I'd feel the same way. What I meant about making the rest of us look bad is - when people who don't know anything about tattooing or being tattooed see that tattoo and hear the supposed story of her being high they will assume that this is a normal thing and that tattoo artists don't care about their clients health and safety and that people are out there just tattooing horrible things on intoxicated people with no regard to that person's life. I feel like that's the type of thing that makes people scared about going to their local shop, thinking it's going to just be a bunch of idiots with face tattoos, drunk and high putting permanent marks on people. It reminds me in a way of that girl who had all the stars tattooed on her face and then when she realized how bad of an idea it was she tried to blame the tattooer which turned into a story about how tattooers will put thing on people who are passed out without them asking for it. It just seems like there's so much negative press about tattoos that adding to that pile just further hurts the industry.
  10. Now, what you want to do it make the "rock on" sign, slip the glowstick in and grasp like this.
  11. I wasn't trying to say you were an idiot or anything. I actually think it's pretty interesting that this one tattoo spawned so many threads.. Haven't had one like that since the Gucci Mane ice-cream face!
  12. three threads about one tattoo. New board record?
  13. how about instead of the attitude that "if i turn them away they will get a nasty disease" and change it to "maybe i should try and explain to this person how that tattoo is going to actually affect their life and maybe try and convince them to get it somewhere else" Like I said before, it's shit like this that gives everyone else a bad name. No matter how clean the tattoo comes out (art wise and health wise). How about having some common decency, being a real human being who isn't going to purposely fuck someone up like that, even if they asked for it. Bad decision on everyone's part.
  14. 1.) Personal high of 2011? Getting engaged. Opening a retail shop with my mother in my hometown. 2.) Personal low of 2011? it was a multiplex of getting denied entry to the USA (where I'd been living for three years and have my dogs, house, fiancé) coupled with the death of my grandfather and a few months later my grandmother. I say this was a multiplex because I came back to Canada for my grandparents and then was unable to return to America, so it was one long shitty event. Not seeing my dogs for almost a year and my fiancé for months on end is fucking shitty. 3.) Best LST Thread? ICP, Random Photos, Hip Hop Thread, full back piece thread 4.) Worst LST Thread? The one where Bubbleberry wrote a novel about how shitty and sad of a person I am. That was pretty tight. (just as a side note, he tried to add me on Facebook a few weeks ago, according to his profile he actually owns a shop in where ever the fuck he lives and he was the one doing those awful tattoos that he claimed his "wife" did. it also appears he has stolen other people's tattoo work and put it on his shop's page. I wish i could meet him so I could kick his balls off, and then show him what a real tattoo is supposed to look like) 5.) Favorite tattoo (on you): Is this tattoos I got this year? If so I guess none cause I didn't really get tattooed except for a little souvenir one. If it just means overall out of everything on me at this point I'd have to go with my back even though it's not done 6.) Favorite tattoo (on someone else): way to hard to choose, nothing instantly comes to mind as 'the one' 7.) Favorite artist? again, there isn't just one person who I could pick. 8.) Best/Worst movie: worst movie I watched all year was "Rubber" total fucking useless bullshit. I can't even believe I watched the whole thing. best movie I watched was ummm.... probably Bridesmaids. 9.) Best/Worst album: No idea.. I'm not even sure if I listened to any new albums this year. I've fallen off the new music band wagon as of late. 10.) Biggest guilty pleasure: these gourmet chocolate bars we sell at my mom's store. They are about 600 calories and taste like it. Headache inducing amounts of sugar. 11.) Best show/concert you did and did not attend: Actually I don't think I attended one show this year. That's what happens with you get stuck in a tiny town in Canada. Oh wait actually I went and saw TV On The Radio and it was amazing. And the worst concert was the opening band for TV On The Radio, Lissie Trully or some shit. Whoever they were, they sucked. 12.) Sum up the year in one word: Frustrating.
  15. Honestly, I don't care how many of you are friends with or know the dude who did it. He never should have done the tattoo. It's shit like that, which gives everyone else a bad name. Doesn't matter how good of a tattooer the dude supposedly is, he just ruined someone's life. For real. Having a band tattoo on your arm or leg that you later regret is one thing. Having it across your entire fucking forehead? Totally horrible. It kind of makes me mad that we can have a heated discussion over weather people should be tattooing hands, where most people say no you shouldn't unless it's a heavily tattooed person who you know. Yet something like this just makes people laugh and think nothing less of the guy who did it. Fuck that. Bad idea on her part, his (tattooers) part, and bad idea on whoever manages that shop for letting it happen. I already think one dude from that shop is total dick, now I kind of think that about two people there. Needless to say, I will never be taking my business there.

  17. You would have thought that a government organization like the TSA would hire people who've not only graduated high school but who've taken some kind of training to not be so fucking stupid. Not really the same thing but kind of: I once had a Florida State Trooper say to me "for all I know you could be a terrorist, they did get in through Canada after all" he was being dead serious.

    Art thread.

I thought some of his pottery was pretty rad. I still prefer the ceramics that Ed Hardy has been doing. All white with blue paint. Japanese style. And yeah, if I ever go to the UK I'm def gonna try and make a stop at the museum where this will (hopefully still) be hanging.
  19. Just fucking stupid. I'm actually kind of mad now that I read the article.

@irezumi here's a great photo showing the scale of that tapestry, it's ridiculous. Plus the dude who made it is a bona-fide weirdo and that makes me like it even more. Knowing how something like that is made, it really blows my mind the scale of it.

This is one of the greatest things I've seen. For real. There are very few truly great textile artists, especially quilters doing work like this.
  22. My only question is why would you laser suck an awesome tattoo!! haha just kidding, but I do like it in some ways. Anyways, how bad was it to get done? I've heard it hurts like crazy. I've also heard some places offer a topical ointment that helps with the pain. I'm looking forward to seeing more photos and pictures of when you start getting it re-tattooed.
  23. Here's what I've found with my tattoos. I will also mention I am a medium dark Italian, so I kind of look Persian, or just really tanned all the time, olive complextion but still pretty pale in a way. If you are of African decent you might have a problem depending how dark your skin is. On me, when a really talented artist has used yellow it seems like it's going to last. The tattoo I'm thinking of is about 2 years old and the yellow is a very golden hue. It looks almost as bright as when it was new. The tattoo is located on my inner arm by my arm pit so it doesn't see the sun very often at all. I also have Homer Simpson's head on my ankle and so does my best friend. Both were done by my fiancé, her skin is very white, very pale and it's held up on both of us really well. I have a large tattoo on my thigh that was done by someone not as experienced and for whatever reason the yellow in that is almost totally gone. It was much lighter to begin with than the other ones. Over all a bunch of my tattoos have little bits of yellow in them and they mostly have been fine. If I was you, I'd get it done in the style of an old tattoo with a heavy black outline and deep golden yellow and make the wings brown or red or both. That's just me though, I'm sure there's other ways of doing it and making it real nice.
  24. Maybe you could hook him up with some disposable tubes since I'm assuming he doesn't have an autoclave or anything like that.
