  1. I think Dan was just pointing out a good shop for this kid to check out that he knows personally. I didn't get from his post that he was saying CTC is the one and only place to get a tattoo in Chicago. Just my $0.02
  2. I haven't been tattooed in almost 2 months! This must be fixed!
  3. I wanted to necro this thread since we have gotten a bunch of new members here at LST.
  4. An unspoken rule of forums run similar to this, is keep new threads to a minimum. Direction can change once in a thread as long as it pertains to the original post (i.e. "I am looking to get my first tattoo of idea. Changes mind I am looking to get my first tattoo of new idea.) The second thread is relevant to the previous thread since they share the same subject with a slightly modified possible outlook. There are some forums out there that run like chaos and take the "me first" approach. Usually this involves using all caps, reposting the same thread over and over, in order to get a response. Said forums also have a high thread turnover rate, which means that ideas of past days/weeks get thrown to the bottom of the pile or deleted out-right. Here at LST it works more around continuing threads with posts pertaining to the OP or subsequent posts. by the way if I am wrong or forgot something, please someone point it out
  5. I really like energy drinks, not because "I'm so Xtreme!!" or need energy, but I like the taste! 7. Pseudo-intellectualism
  6. I just took a little peak into the data used to formulate these numbers. I see they group atheists and agnostics together. If you do that then hell yea most people are not devoutly religious but the difference between agnostic and atheist is huge. An atheist believes for certain that there is no higher being/deity at all. Most people are whishy-washy religious. (Ex only go to church on christmas, etc etc) http://b27.cc.trincoll.edu/weblogs/AmericanReligionSurvey-ARIS/reports/ARIS_Report_2008.pdf ; page 8 http://www.thearda.com/mapsReports/reports/US_2000_Congregations.asp
  7. I always wanted a soundtrack for my life. Hell I'll take an into for sure
  8. While I would be happy if this was true, I simply do not believe this. I can see maybe fastest growing "religion" but not the largest.
  9. Not 100% but it was relevant
  10. Sadly religion has been the vessel in which violence has been justified for millennia. When you say you got god on your side, suddenly people join in, no matter how ridiculous. Crusades Witch trials WWII Terrorism Other various skirmishes, battles, wars, killings, wrongful trials. This being said, I have yet to find a religion that outright condones violence (save passages like stone person for X reason). Hell even 99% of the shunned left-hand religions don't condone violence for violences sake.
  11. Yea this behaviour is not limited to this forum. I am a member of quite a few forums (mostly professionally) and people do this ALL the time. I would like to friendly suggest that maybe a mod or two more be added. I've seen this work on other high-traffic forums. There are usually a few mods per section that keep an eye on things and move/delete/lock threads when they see fit. I have a feeling LST has grown considerable since I joined and now we see the outcomes of both good and bad of increased traffic.
  12. I have a feeling it was wasted (especially since he just made a duplicate thread of this like we would forget). It was more for the newbies reading through threads.
  13. Not directed at you in particular but I did want to clear the area about theist vs athiest... Atheist: a person who denies or disbelieves the existence of a supreme being or beings. Theist: one who believes in the existence of a god or gods The rejection of a particular religion or sect does not make you an atheist by default. You can reject defined religions and become an agnostic theist. There is also deism but I'm going to skip that to keep it simple. While I try to avoid labeling, there is a time and a place where it is acceptable. When looking at a mostly black and white question of your position of the existence of an external conscious, "labeling" is the only real answer to the question. I also kindly reject you accusation that people who "take the atheist label" are simply responding to a religion is false. When we are born we do not know of such things as religion, they are communicated to us. You begin as a blank slate (also as an atheist) and become an atheist. One would be reacting to religion if they became theistic.
  14. As always, Stewart you are correct. I second this motion. Let's call it "Tattoo Advice"
  15. The only thing worse than my spelling is my handwriting, which makes for a lethal combination. Damn I should have became a doctor :)
  16. Yea I suck at spelling. To top it all off my phones dictionary is curently in swedish so it assumes I am spellimg every word incorrectly. Never realized how bad I needed it till I didnt have it
  17. Since you are looking for advice I will offer mine. Whether you like it or not that is up to you and I don't need any critiquing on the advice provided henceforth. First, it is your first tattoo so it is a big deal to you. I get it, I was there (we all were there) at one point. While it does seem like a big deal now, afterwards you will look back and realize you over thought it. Second, set expectations correctly. You are getting tattooed, and images do not translate from paper to skin very well in my opinion. One is a 3-dimensional living organ, the other is a 2-dimensional piece of paper. I did not fully comprehend this until after I got my first tattoo. Third, instead of researching on the internet go out into the real world. A lot of people (me included) relied heavily on the internet, magazines or "friends". While researching is a good thing for sure, it is only the start of the journey. You are only at the very infancy of your tattoo journey right now. Find a shop in your area (or out of it if you are up to it) and go there. Fourth, talk to a real live tattoo artist. If you want the best opinion on getting your first tattoo, the person that would be applying it is bar-none the best person to get advice from. Even if you talk to a really good artist, this doesn't mean all that much unless he is putting on the tattoo. Tattoo artists are a varied bunch, simply due to them being human. They all have their own style, limitations, ideas, and imaginations. This is the reason people are saying "Just do it already". Fifth, when people say they don't work for you here, it's because they don't work for you. Instead of firing off insults, first look at it from their perspective. You joined a community of people and without adding to the community you just fired off a question. This question has been covered time and time again. I personally have learned much from this forum and it has answered questions I never had in the first place, making me a better informed customer. Posting up a question without any bit of due-diligence researching is rude. I find it similar to walking into a clubhouse and shouting "HOW DO YOU GET KILLER TATZ?", instead of mingling with the club members and learning, after which you can formulate a proper question. Finally, you have insulted members of this community. You responded similarly to a child not getting their way. You asked for an opinion/advice and did not get the answer you wanted so you resorted to uneducated responses, insults and general ass-hattery. If you follow my advice that is great, and I hope it helps you on your way. If you continue to throw "internet temper tantrums", please just keep it to this thread as I enjoy the rest of the community discussions too much as they are without random insults. I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt that you just failed to see through the sarcasm and "rib poking" to see there was an abundance of advice offered, so this is why I forumlated this response in almost novel form.
  18. Seconded. The color will change enough to be unusable as reference
  19. I think he was refering to the double post jokingly
  20. I know this is a touchy subject (mods close if need be), but I thought why not. Who here are atheists?
  21. I've actually been slowly moving to the "less is more" approach and have been getting much better results. No saran wrap Aquaphor for only the first 2-3 days Lotion it only as needed But I was the ever living shit outta it with burning hot water 5 times a day Never healed as cleanly or as fast with this approach.
  22. I usually try to wait at least a week before I get all sweaty. Treat it like an open wound!
