  1. Well as far as what it is I can only tell you what I asked for as I have yet to see the design yet (half the fun!). I generally only like to get loose guidelines instead of hard rules. Hey I pay the artist to be an artist! Threw out the idea of a dragon/samurai from my foot to waist. Probably wont post pictures until "Best tattoo of January 2013" thread rolls around...
  2. As I near the "hopeful" end of my wait to get my pistol permit I felt the need to post this. I know there has to be a few gun owners out there. (Sorry for people living in countries that almost flat out ban ownership).
  3. I know smoking is bad but...damn those Marlboros are terrible!
  4. So @gougetheeyes and @ShawnPorter did that actually happen? I had to miss it since my grandmother passed away that week. Also I will being holding a "meetup" within the next week or so whether people show up or not!
  5. The wait is almost over for me! Three days until I start my biggest tattoo yet (and probably will be the biggest until I get my back piece). Now I have to prepare for a two-week rotation going until the end of the year...
  6. So an interesting scenario arose over the last week. My grandmother just passed away last week which brought all of the extended family back together from not speaking over the last decade. During the "mourning" process we all ended up hanging out and getting plastered for a few days. During this time tattoos arose and everyone found out I got a few, which prompted everyone to show off a small piece or two. After the funeral a cousin prompted the question of getting a "family" tattoo to possibly bond us again as we were in a bit of a family fight for awhile which now seems to have passed with the passing of the last grand parent. I was assumed to be on-board since I am the "heavily tattooed guy" in the family. Any thoughts? Anyone ever do this (whether it be tattooer tattooing families or people being tattooed).
  7. This would save you time when talking to clients. Just stick your hand out! Seriously though I would love to get a lady justice as a pinup. Hell I might go get that!
  8. This would have been better under the "tattoo advice" section. Also I would avoid doing anything that would damage your skin. If it is an upper arm tattoo wear a t-shirt that covers it. Wear sunblock (as you should any way)
  9. I would think that anyone that would question the spider-web/other prison tattoos would probably realize the difference between jailhouse style and one done by a pro. I've seen a bunch of jailhouse stuff and it has a very particular look to it, especially the ink.
  10. There is actually a thread full of answers for this: http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/tattoo-101/1244-tattoos-workplace.html http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/war-stories/1558-visible-tattoos-other-corporate-no-nos.html I would say that as I've found most places won't flat out fire you for showing some ink (unless it's really offensive) but it has the high probability of holding you back in most "mainstream" jobs. Most places won't flat out say "you didn't get the promotion because of your tattoos" but you might see resistance from the top. Most companies want numbered employees operating like cogs in a machine churning out money. Individuality and the related are usually frowned upon, hence the uniform most people wear to work whether that is a McDonald's outfit or a Armani suit.
  11. I've always referenced to them as vinyls or vinyl since my dad did also, plus in the audiophile world there is a difference between vinyl, CD, MP3 and lossless audio.
  12. Really thanks everyone here at LST! I'll do my best to help out here. Seriously you guys are the best!
  13. I do have to say I might be "that guy". I know my friends and my mother check me for new tattoos every time I see em, but I don't think I'm going "overboard". Yes we must see when you get it!
  14. I can comment on one thing for sure...his writing sucks ass! Oh yea, and tattoo school(s) are a joke!
  15. @Dan S that is some seriously cool stuff! Keep 'em coming! Also @hogg @Lochlan as far as public forums (or websites in general) if it is sourced correctly (especially out of print stuff) it should be fine but there is a clause in the laws (USA at least) that LST must comply with the wishes of the copywrite holders to take down anything if they ask. As far as I'm concerned I think this might fall under "fair-use".
  16. I gave up the "punk rock" mentality at work awhile ago. I remember when I first transitioned from a job to a career. I put away the cut-off dickies, took out my earrings, cut my awesome 5" goatee, and shaved off my mohawk (that I had for 2 years!). I love getting tattooed, but I also like having a good paying job so I can keep getting tattooed. I am not good at much, sadly I am office-bound in talents. I remember a time where I thought that "my employer better accept my 'lifestyle'". That changed after being unemployed real quick! Work is work, when I get home then my lifestyle can kick in. Yea I know they actually have sport application (their actual purpose) but employers found they make great tattoo coverups. It's funny to me to see some poor kid working at starbucks forced to wear athletic equipment to make coffee. I always wanted to have my coffee served in lay-up formation. I am way more heavily tattooed on my legs than anywhere else. I think leg tattoos *squidpants* are awesome. Each thigh is like a small back piece sized area. Don't waste the space! Actually they tried to do this and lost every time. Because it is a personal decision it is not a protected class. Things that cannot be changed (don't know why religion is listed but hey whatever) like race, orientation, socio-economic, etc.
  17. I think you should have worded this response differently, especially because it is contradicting your other posts. You start off the tread looking at traditional tattoos. When most people think of tattoos the "banner in a heart" is probably the most common one people think of. The flash you posted first showed a strong interest in very traditional tattoos, so you got responses of very traditional tattoos. If you posted portraits we would have responded with portraits, if you posted tribal, we would have posted tribal, etc, etc. The fact that the traditional tattoo imagery is still being used today is a testament that the images hold true today as they did in the far past. I can tell you one thing from my experience. The most "original" tattoo I have is the one I like the least. Strong images that have been perfected over decades or longer have had time to mature. (Think good aged wine instead of moonshine). This is a forum that leans toward the traditional styles (Asian and Western) more than other styles. When asking strangers for advice, please, please, please, be nice to them. There is no quicker way to get dismissed than to insult people. This community has helped teach me and direct me, and I hope others can get the same experience. Also....PANTHERS RULE!
  18. Can this happen? That would be one epic. All the other kids would be jealous! q - - - Updated - - - Can this happen? That would be one epic. All the other kids would be jealous! - - - Updated - - - Can this happen? That would be one epic. All the other keids would be jealous!
