  1. Again I can say I agree 100% with you Bunny. I think the biggest problem with tattooing on TV is that TV shows have to be written for a large audience and something like tattooing in its truest form doesn't work for a lot of people. This has more to do with the people really into tattooing are not a very large group to begin with. I could guess that a good 75% minimum of the population would not be a good audience for the type of stuff we at LST truly enjoy and get excited over. This is why I am extremely grateful for LST and videos produced by places like vice.tv, they produce for the people that care and stay true to form. It's sad to say but a lot of people like shitty scripted reality shows regardless of what "foundation" is used (Jersey Shore, UFC, Tattooing, etc). They like to go home crack open a natty ice and watch mindless scripted drama. (no offense intended to people who like reality tv). As far as Ami as a tattooer, I would say his stuff is solid, but I am not going to get tattooed by him. I have too long a list with too little skin to add anyone else on it. That's nothing against him, I just have my preferences. Although it doesn't sound like a compliment I have seen far far worse that people consider good to say he is anything but good. It more comes down to that last 5% to excellence that I strive to look for in an artist that makes me go elsewhere.
  2. Sadly this is people in general. In my line of work I have ran into shitty people that you don't know about until halfway through. 20/20 hindsight
  3. That's the first I've ever heard of red fading out that quick. I'm the exact opposite in that red is the more stable of colors
  4. I am looking at who I want to put a dagger on my forearm. I feel it is a hellva tattoo for the area. Just looks right.
  5. It's your first tattoo and the best advice is to relax. I know most people (me included) got excited over the small things. It's a wound that is healing. I also use something similar to the "dry method" with basically a lot more washing (and really hot water). Unless it's really blistering or looking nasty I wouldn't worry too much.
  6. While I could give a shit if I ever became friends with the artist, I would also never get tattooed by an asshole or one of the "rockstar" types. In my opinion getting tattooed is a business transaction and should be handled as such. When I deal with work clients sometimes we end up getting along and grabbing a few beers, which is nice but not required. This being said, I have only been tattooed by one person that I would never go back to again because of the general attitude I got the entire time. I always felt uncomfortable, like I was a nuisance the whole time. On top of this he talked about customers in the shop (me included), but he never got it that I could understand the language he was speaking....not cool (a few comments were justified).
  7. I have gotten looked at like an asshole when I stated I wouldn't go to (insert cheap local scratcher) but would rather go to (insert list of awesome artists). I just shrug and say well it's my body, and I'd rather not get marked up by some asshat in a kitchen.
  8. Not edited yet had to fix one more thing. And yes awesome sig
  9. you need to get tattooed more haha
  10. You rhymed so I now follow you
  11. Do what I do when people ask what my tattoos mean. Talk up a storm about how the demon on your leg relates to how the stars looked when you were born and that same night the moon did a backflip and when you were little ypur bother died and then it also means strength and courage and reminds you that you can never give up like that one time in school as a kid you fell and it hurt but you got up but because it was pizza day you were sad because.....eventually they walk away. Haha
  12. I second that. I head into chicago every once in awhile for work and would be down for a small chicago meetup
  13. Mods can you open this for me to edit? I had to clean it up and got cut off.
  14. I currently wrote one for now http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/tattoo-101/2494-tattoo-history-videos-books.html and will be making two more about reoccuring themes I have seen as I have been looking back at all the threads made since this site started. So far they will be: Tattoo Etiquette Tattoos and Travel
  15. With a bit of lurking you can find your answer to this question. The problem is you are asking the wrong question. The question that would help the best would be looking for a good artist (either locally or elsewhere depending on your desired amount of travel). On the forum there are a few places to check for good shops/artists that are great at what they do. Your question and any others can easily be answered by an actual tattoo artist, and you should get the answer only from the artist you choose to tattoo you. To sum up: To get the answer on "can this be done" can only be answered by the person that will do it. It is like asking: "Can a person fix my car" Of course somebody can but you must find the mechanic first to see if they can do it. here is a good place to start:Tattoo Shop Reviews | Last Sparrow Tattoo
  16. I decided to group together all the threads currently about old tattoos, and tattooing in the past. He is a list of links to all the threads I found relevant. If I missed any please post up a link in the following and I can see if I can get it edited into the original post. The interviews posted here by @Scott Sylvia, which are located in the blog section. 17. I refuse to work with cell companies now after some past experiences. The data structures I've seen have been horrendous. I give credit to people that can understand the bill systems, which in my opinion are the most confusing ass-backwards formulas and DBs out there. Oh yea BTW those 90mb files are my reports! Real-time data burns gigs an hour.
  18. As nerdy as this sounds...I kinda like using spreadsheets. Question....have you made an excel doc over 90mb? I have! I work a lot with data trending and semi-smart A.I. so I churn shittons of data daily. It's always cool to wow the non-nerds out there with the information I can pull/manipulate.
  19. Welcome. I suggest lurking around for a bit as a huge number of questions and topics have been covered already. I usually use the search bar to see if the question is answered first, as this is faster than waiting for a response. In any case what is your question.
  20. This cracked me up a bit as I just had an similar experience only a couple of hours ago. A friend and I were sitting and approached by an older tattooed guy (had some real old stuff on one arm and some other newer stuff) who asked about our tattoos. I told him I was getting more soon and he said he knew of a "great shop" right down the street. He said to go to this barber shop and ask to get tattooed. It is upstairs and behind a divider of some kind. He then proceeds to show us the new work he got done. Paraphrasing: "It's a good place, much cheaper than all of these other shops. I got a bit of an infection but he's real good and cheap". I saw work and it was not good and it had a pretty nasty infection brewing. Mind you we where down the street from Invisible NYC. It was kinda sad because he had an awesome real old eagle on his forearm, but I guess some people don't know what to look for.
  21. I tried to keep track in the beginning but gave up when the numbers grew. I don't like to know how much I spend on my "fun stuff". I once calculated how much I spend on booze in a month and almost had a heart attack, so I sat down and had a drink. Or less....anything invested pre-2008 pretty much is shit in comparison to what it was.
  22. This is true. Thought I would give it a shot, but looks like I'm going to have to head to SF for a meetup and probably pick up a few tattoos.
  23. Yea still never understood the whole pack 5 novels worth of "meaning" and hidden symbols/words/etc, into a quarter sized tattoo in white ink on their wrist so it "faces them". If an employer cares about tattoos then yes visible/not visible is the only thing they care about, but offensive (this is subjective) tattoos 90% of the time are a no-go regardless if they care about tattoos or not.
