The move from upper arm tattoos to a full sleeve..
slayer9019 replied to lving4today's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
For those who don't know what I was talking about with the basketball sleeve. It's like an arm sock -
This post got me in trouble at work! I was reading it in a meeting and ended up laughing really loud. I ended up picturing lochlan merrily tap dancing into the pre-school.

The move from upper arm tattoos to a full sleeve..
slayer9019 replied to lving4today's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
I see tattooed workers all the time but that I attribute more to a lower income area (which I have lived in for awhile now.) I used to live in Newark NJ, and now moved along the border of super-rich and blue-collar, so within a few miles you can see the differences in hiring qualifications. In Newark a ton of workers have throat, and hand tattoos. (actually it seems sometimes that was there only tattoos). As you start driving up from Newark and the area becomes more affluent this trend disappears rapidly. In the more "ritzy" areas you will see that if a worker has a tattoo they usually wear long sleeves or those basketball player sleeve things. I only figured this out by seeing some of them out of work. I wouldn't say you have to "earn" a sleeve but I would hesitate to say finish an arm before doing some other big stuff elsewhere. I agree you have no idea where you will be working. A prime example is one of my mentors from when I was younger. When he was in in his young adult years (16-23 maybe) he was a construction worker in Newark. After going to college he became some type of accountant from 27ish to he was 40. After getting laid off he started his own company which burned down when he turned 55. After this he had to sales work for a company because his insurance didn't cover much and he lost a lot. Now he runs a deli. So you can see the career shifts that can happen. He warned me of this all time and gave real life examples. -
Input on possible designs?
slayer9019 replied to Delicious's topic in Tattoo Designs, Books and Flash
With classic designs like you are looking at there really isn't a "wrong answer" in my opinion. The following work in any combination: Hearts Snakes Daggers Butterflies Roses I always like a good rose, you can never have enough snakes and daggers rule! In the end never forget that this is a tattoo on you so make sure you don't get something that you don't really like, while I know you have outside influences make sure you are sold on it too. Maybe if she thinks the snake/dagger/rose is too "tough" of an image, maybe just keep one of the the two (snake or dagger). Dagger through the heart is a killer look for sure. Butterflies are a bit different since there is a bit more "going on" and you can have a bit more fun with color. My friend (who does not want his tattoos posted) just got a killer looking butterfly done recently (blues and purples). -

What about a radiating skull-n-cross bones? That could be epic. -

I would say you are in a similar position as myself. I work a job that does not like tattoos and I have to keep em covered up. Now while I only have my upper arm done, it went past the point of polos/short sleeve buttons-ups to be worn ever again. I also would love to fill my right arm up and have it "complete" but I also greatly enjoy rolling up my sleeves when I get hot (job can send me all around the world). While I really don't worry to much about loosing my job or anything in regards to that, I also am keeping it conservative at the moment. If you are like me you have TONS of room left elsewhere. I am about to start on finishing my left leg in a month. That will fully satisfy my urge to get tattooed for around a year, and I am getting a killer "sleeved limb" tattoo done. (The technical term for this is "squid-pant sleeve"). I say if you got any hesitation about the placement, save it for later. Like I said, having the ability to roll up your sleeves is key to me at least. -
I have a bit of OCD with reading peoples shirts/tattoos/whatever. If it's words I can't help but try to read it.

Thinking about the "wrapping technique" got me to come up with a possible idea. (please tattooers jump in). What if you use no-rinse medical soap then wrap it. That I think would be the cleanest environment under the cling-wrap (as long as the cling wrap is sterile. Or instead of cling-wrap you can use trauma pads as they don't stick and should be sterile. I might go ask my doctor buddy and see what he says.

Damn thats a hellva list! Can we see some of them?

Hey Vijai! I think you are the only Indian on LST.

Just wanted to throw a recent experience in there to throw some perspective from a non-tattooed person (not me). I was at the doctor since I just totalled my car late last week. The nurse doing my normal blood pressure, height, etc, kept staring at my tattoos. It was not subtle at all. After awhile I made a joke along the lines of "my face is up here", and she got embarrassed. This broke the ice, so she asked me where I got them and that she was actually looking to get something soon but she always see stuff that looks terrible on her friends. She pointed to the lady on my arm and said "How do they make the colors look so amazing". I just told her go to a good shop, after which I told her where I go and would go. I then understood she was just amazed after seeing her first well done tattoo up close. She actually wrote down all the information I told her on a Rx notepad!

Fat people with tattoos: Your thoughts
slayer9019 replied to Delicious's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
I am not exactly on the thinner side and I like my tattoos. I think body size and shape only come into question for a good tattoo, when you are deciding on how big the tattoo should be and how it should flow. I think the problem is (and this is for people of all sizes), comes when people "just want a small" tattoo, when if they went a bit bigger it would flow better. A properly placed, scaled and executed tattoo will look amazing on someone of 100lbs or 400lbs. -
@Dan S beat me to the punch here. Any good artist could cover that up. Where are you located, I am sure we can name a few (or quite a few) good shops/artists in your area that would do an awesome job. Depending on what you want you can always look at maybe a few laser sessions to lighten it up. If I remember correctly black is one of the easiest to lighten with laser.

Hey welcome fellow east-coaster. Who have you been tattooed by so far?
-
I start shaking before getting blood drawn. It's kinda funny. Thoughout my life my veins have been "hidden" so getting blood drawn sucks. I have a nurse one time stab the shit out of one arm, move to the next literally "searching" for a vein. She ended up having to draw blood from my hand which is now the only way I do it. Tattoo needles vs blood drawing needles are WAY different, although I think it also comes down the environment. Tattoo shops are much more inviting than cold, doctors offices.

You can post it here first. You never know you might get an answer

Disclaimer: I am not and will never be a lawyer. Please contact you attorney or law firm for accurate information regarding law in your region. Let me shed a bit of light on this situation. I have seen this a lot in the IT world and has become a huge huge problem. On top of this the laws change often as the web is a very new thing and still "like the wild west" Internet IP (Intellectual Property) infringement are a absolute mess right now. The laws are being written by people clueless to how it actually happens, so there end up being good and bad outcomes to this. Under current law (speaking for US citizens and some others), the owner of the IP can make a request to remove the content, which the provider (in this case tattoodonkey). If the "offending content" gets re-added if it is slightly different than the previous version it usually has to be asked to be removed again. This is a serious problem IP owners that are not massive corporations with teams of people dedicated to finding infringing content. (example Warner Brothers actually exceeded its limit for the months removals...it is in the 10's of thousands) The "service provider" is tattoodonkey Key Points: Sources The Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998 (summery) The Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998

How about the word's "Worst Poker Player" on your face. High risk = It's on your face High reward = People think you make terrible decisions and you are bad at poker so you can bluff easier Kidding aside, a "man's ruin" tattoo would be awesome or what @CultExciter said, but maybe it could be "worst possible set of cards with the word 'All in' in a banner"

While weird that actually sounds like the most accurate thing someone has asked about another person's tattoos without being tattoo people themselves....epic! While this is a weird request, I would have gone along with it too just to see where she was going with that... It's not every day that a person asks a stranger if they can lick them ^ what this guy said

Even if they don't have a high level of bacteria, I'm more concerned about the chlorine itself. I used to take care of my parents pool and the chemicals used bleached the shit outta my clothes (one downside to wearing only black). Yea Driod does the same shit, that's why I stopped posting from my phone. It somehow closes my app or just "blows up" when I fat finger. Also I love a double post in 1 post, truly epic.

That's a damn nice tattoo! I always love a big old image in an introduction! Welcome
