  1. Looking back at this thread, I would say I think the title is a bit off. Maybe something more like "Tattoos changing during healing" or something similar. Also BME is not the greatest source of content for tattoo stuff in my personal opinion.
  2. not from an artist but: maybe some of the shading only got as far as the first layer of skin so it was never really "there". i know my b/w tattoo lighted up a shitton after the first month. went from dark and full of detail to much much lighter with much more whitewashed detail not too long afterwards.
  3. I really don't know about that one....I would say that none of my tattoos have some big story behind em, and I still love em. I personally don't like some big significance behind them because that idea may change down the line, but the image is still there.
  4. Wow has it been that long already? I am so glad I found this site and am excited to see it grow from the first time I logged in! As gouge and hogg have said, I also feel honored to be able to be a part of LST and help out.
  5. Sadly looks like my current tattoos are making me too broke to fly out and stay in SF. Might see if I can make it out to SF sometime next year, unless I get some more money come my way for hotel and flight.
  6. Just watched it. Some thoughts The bulk of the tattoos I saw there I had no problem getting removed but the one guys arm tattoo looked ok. I didn't see a need to remove it (why not add?). I have only flirted with the idea of removing one of my tattoos but only because it just doesn't look right in the overall plan I have. Like my tattoo artist said "why bother removing it now, just put a bunch of cool ones around it!".
  7. If you guys don't follow him on instagram, Lal Hardy is posting up some serious tattoo history. It is pretty much everyday I get treated to at least a handful of pics from days past. Since I haven't asked permission yet I wouln't post them here but grab his instagram...seriously! Between him and Horiyoshi III there is a lot there!! Sidenote Freddy Corbin's posts are always entertaining! http://web.stagram.com/n/horiyoshi3/ http://web.stagram.com/n/lalhardy/
  8. I actually started a thread on this myself a few months back. Tattoo Elite is a good one but actually checking out stuff directly from an artist's site is better. I swung by Thomas Hooper's show to snag a print, plus places like shirtanddestroy.com out of brooklyn sometimes carry prints (plus wicked t-shirts).
  9. fuckin' awesome @Stewart Robson I was really happy to hear that @Valerie Vargas got a spot on Tattoo Age, you totally deserve it! Only problem is it reminded me I gotta hop the pond to get tattooed over at Frith St. for a few days straight to get tattooed by Valerie and by Stewart again.
  10. Welcome to LST. Yet another instagram "liker" here. Glad you joined!
  11. This cracks me up a bit. I actually picked my first shop out by using the internet, but not LST. I used a review site and while the shop was bad, it wasn't the best. If you look up amazing shops they usually only have 1-3 reviews. This is why the only reason I use yelp or the like is to see if there are 20+ terrible reviews. It wouldn't stop me from going there, it would just make me cautious. As far as snobbery goes, I guess I am a huge snob with beer, guns, metal, tattoos, cigars, and cars. There are two kinds of snobs. People who truly enjoy something and know a lot about it. They usually have a defined taste for whatever it is (be it tattoos, beer, etc) and like to talk about it. This comes off as "snobby" to people because you sound like you're name dropping, and talking down on certain things. Then there are the real snobs (aka <insert> hipsters). These folks like to say "well if it isn't Chimay I wouldn't touch it", etc etc. A large majority of the time these real snobs don't really even know what they are talking about. They just like to sound more well informed than other people. Call me a snob, I just know what I like!
  12. So I love these threads on other enthusiast sites I frequent. I wanna get one going for us here at LST. ...when you have white sheets that are now multi-colored ...when you heard the word sailor and don't think of ships ...when the smell of green soap and buzzing makes you excited ...you vacations are planned around what shops are in the area what ones you guys got?
  13. If only I lived in the UK. Needed a pair of shoes.
  14. Shit. I am starting to get addicted to instagram. Also it is hella informative!
  15. Shit. Now I gotta sit at work knowing it was released already! Worst work day ever
  16. I also have to admit I looked over the picture before reading. Killer tattoo I would not say it's a Marines tattoo. It is awesomely patriotic (hell yea!) but almost all Marine tattoos I've seen usually say USMC and/or other military bits around it.
  17. And I thought I was the only one that secretly disrobes at work to take care of new tattoos! You're lucky that you have an office. As a contractor I got the public bathroom :( Being that I have been continously been getting tattooed for over a year and a half now I am pretty much used to the process (cleaning, sitting weird, sleeping weird, peeling, multi-colored skin flakes, etc) but this last tattoo takes the cake for the worst healing process. Just got my ass to upper-calf tattooed in one shot. Actually had to call off of work (first time for a tattoo) because I could not sleep the night before and when I got up I couldn't bend my knee. Knee-ditch is aggravating since you have to keep your leg extended. Add your ass getting tattooed, I kinda sit on one cheek as to not let my clothes stick to it. Also it does seem that wherever I get tattooed, that is the EXACT place that my body wants to sleep on...it is also usually the place my friends dog wants to jump on :(
  18. That's awesome. On the flipside I've never been to a shop that was like that. Now I am hunting one down! As far as shops in NJ and NYC they are all "custom" oriented as I've seen, even if their is hanging flash.
