Yea again I reiterate I do not want to loose the history in that museum. I threw some money in the pot to get stuff moving, regardless of politics. Money can be lost but not history. That shit is irreplaceable

Yea I did some "fun" stuff as a kid but I heard some stories in the shop that made me shut up. @Delicious a couple things at least from me If there is a bad blog out there, don't go to it. When they lose traffic, they will give up on the site. Simple as pie. Honestly your second post on this tread felt like the reason you actually setup this thread. It was a weird post that doesn't really fit into this forum (at least in my opinion). Also tattoo imagery/symbolism (or any imagery/symbolism for that matter) only conveys what the viewer adds to it. A good example, the swastika. It has it's good and bad place in the world. yea it does have its ups and downs. My particular job ended up being something I do very well but don't really like the subject so I sold out as fast as possible. If you can bury your head in your work like I do, you can easily skip most of the BS. On a social note I would never be friends with anyone I work with anyway. Not my crowd!

Politics....very dangerous in the workplace. The worst damage I've ever seen to a career was after someone made the stupid decision to voice their political stances on some subjects. Hell I almost jumped in (gun politics) but luckily kept quiet. Even something as easy as saying what car you just picked up can be taken the wrong way. A guy spent (probably more than he could afford) on a fancy new car. People thought he got some big bonus/raise and started the slow, painful death which is office political slander. Corporate world can be brutal and only gets worse as you move up. Damn do I miss my days being an intern when I could do no wrong!

Sub 75 is impossible. Even the ATV2 only does 720 (barley) and that is 99. If you spend about 150-200ish you can build a rock solid media-center/server. The rPi really just doesnt have the muscle to do much at all so I would suggest looking elsewhere. My buddy uses his for low-def youtube streaming. I would check out Micro Center for amazingly cheap deals. I built a few quad-core AMD builds that were at the 150 mark (a nice case is the only component that will cost any significant money). Integrated graphics on the newer chips will be perfect for 1080p. It may seem odd by overkill is actually the cheaper option as the really mini stuff gets pricey and the cheap mini stuff doesnt have the horsepower. I've built maybe 20-30 XBMC dedicated boxes so I've been through this struggle for everyone that wanted one. They want micro-tiny size for the cost of a low-end motherboard. Building is usually way cheaper than buying pre-built for the super-budget builds. Also the Mac-Mini is super pricey for what it provides, I would stick with Linux(XBMC) on a PC. For mac-mini prices you could be rocking a solid i5, 8gig ram, and some snappy drives. Another cheap-o solution my friend is running is finding used laptop with a dead screen and using that as the XBMC unit. Most people get rid of these super-cheap because screens are big money. Good thing about laptops are built in battery backup and low-voltage.

Yea lawyers are a must. There is a ton of small stuff most people miss. I recently got involved in creating a startup with another guy I work with. Stuff came up like "what happens if one of you is incarcerated/dies?". Technically if you didn't spell out these situations if say your partner is jailed/dies their spouse can become your "new partner" and can tank the company. Shit I didn't even think about! Plus there is a literal fuck-ton of paperwork in starting a business and as @Dan S said write everything out in plain-ol-english. Otherwise it becomes a game of he-said-she-said. Shit came up in my family where my Uncle could no longer go to work due to "stupid decisions" but he was still a owner of the company and still received a paycheck, damn did that suck. Also rembember lawyers and paperwork ain't cheap. Add that to the startup cost. Good lawyers (at least here in NYC area cost hundreds an hour). If I remember correctly my small company was about 10k-ish with a family discount to get going legally. Oh yea also don't forget insurance! Not just health insurance but building insurance, life, disability, renters, umbrella, etc). What happens if your business is sued? Been there done that, and without a big-ol-insurance policy you can get screwed. People these days are trigger-happy on suing, especially with this crap economy.

I am a massive XMBC/XMBC-integration fan! I actually do some dev work for some of the plugins and drivers. R-Pi and XMBC do "work". Work well? Think again. You will be extremely limited in running any "cool" stuff like HD skins, 720p+ video, some plugins, etc. Also if you do use it, the Pi heats up like no other. The R-Pi is a cool testbed, screw-around toy and SSH terminal but it's not really a "computer". If you want to get into the world of XBMC I suggest going the route of a Tegra line or even better a i3/AMD Quad chip in a micro case. Then you can start building up your XBMC/server box like I did and get to do some wicked cool stuff. My current XBMC main server runs: XBMC (Aeon HD skin) Drupal (Torrent interface) SabNZBd (Usenet interface) Sickbeard (Usenet show interface) Maraschino (A slick overall interface for all XBMC and other server dashboards) Ajaxplorer (cloud-like file management. think personal dropbox) A huge array of plugins (PsuedoTV, Youtube, Vimeo, etc) Plex Media Server (so i can stream to other devices) Plus home automation!!! I also got a few XBMC thin-clients that share a mySQL database on the main box so I can pause in one room and resume in the other. Seriously it's like an addiction for me. I also developed a ton of automation scripts to basically automate my house

My $0.02 I would avoid mixing money/business with family. It gets nasty quick. I have personal experience with this and know the issues that arise. My family owned a very successful business. As the business grew issues arose very quickly. Who own's the company? Who gets a bigger cut? Is <xyz> person getting a more favorable treatment than me? The list goes on. It's hard to be in business with the family. It screwed up my family really quick towards the end and we still don't talk to a few family members since there was legal shit being thrown at each other even after we dissolved the company. The wives even got involved. To this day my father still tells me "Never ever ever mix business with friends and family, unless you can happily walk away from them in a heartbeat" "Business is like war, and you don't want to being turning brother on brother." While I do know business that have run successfully in a family, I also know the behind closed doors issues that come up. There will always be someone who gets favorited. (In your case probably you favoriting your sons opinion over the other guy). Since you will just be financial backer you will be in a tough spot. Let's say the business tanks, you might end up getting mad at your son for "not trying hard enough, etc". When your son and this guy are putting in all the man-hours what happens if they decide to open their own shop and leave? At that point your business is just a building your renting since you cannot tattoo. I personally say it would be a bad idea, just because I've seen the massive shit-storm that can come from family/money. It's like water and oil. You don't think that emotions will rise now or you just want to make your money back but believe me ideas change over time.

That really sucks for that guy. This is also the reason why I have gave up wearing white shirts at work, they show tattoos REALLY easily (plus I always happen to spill coffee on myself). The way I see it in the proffessional world you are an "asset". Companies choose the best possible asset for the lowest cost. Simple really. When people start to realize this, they will hopefully realize to keep your personal life outside of work (at least for us office types). My clients/coworkers don't know I like metal music, ride motorcycles, have tattoos, hell some don't even know I smoke cigarettes. Why, you may ask, because they are not my friends and it is a "whatever you say can and will be held against you" environment. The less they know the better.

I know a lot of (I think all) museums do this. Usually they keep stuff in the back to be able to prep it before display, "themeing" displays, no room, and generally so they can have "fresh" stuff on rotation to keep people coming back. The Smithsonian (and other places) only keep 1-3% of their stuff on display at a time.

So does anyone know what is going on with the Amsterdam Tattoo Museum? My instragram and facebook had the same message plastered all over it about them not being able to get into the museum, among other things. So I messaged TCM and they confirmed January 2013 as the first issue of Tattoo Culture Magazine!

Except a few spots, I am usually pretty damn good on pain. If you just zone yourself out a bit it helps a ton. I've been messing with kinda "turning my brain off", works well for pain, I mainly do it so I can sit still for 3+ hours at a time. Only spots that will snap me into reality quick is the knee ditch and armpit area...brutal for sure!
