I can't really comment on the tattooer side of the question but as a customer I can drop this opinion. If a shop is good, established and decide to move, I would still go to that shop. I also do come from a place with a million good shops within a stone throw of each other (NYC). I could see the respect thing causing a problem in places with much less shops.
Well it looks like I may have lost my mind as I seemed to have booked two sessions this weekend with two different artists at invisible.
The really stupid thing is I'm getting not one but BOTH knees worked on. I really am not looking forward to this in the slightest.....
Regino saturday, matt Sunday...woohoo!
Since I am standing in a bus right now with a NASCAR wannabe driver I'll keep this short. I repeat the previous statements of the above posters. @else does have a good point about the close readers. Two of my friends have a short paragraph and they don't like it because it is very awkward to read something on someone's body even if you wanted them to read it. There are also the people who will try to read it without permission. I stick by the 10-10-10 rule for tattoos. From ten feet away in 10 seconds you will know what the tattoo is and it will hold solid for 10 years.
For the average folk who don't have any I guess even one can toss you into that category. I know my last tattoo seems to have crossed some imaginary borders in the minds of people I know. As far as most of the people I know I am now considered 'heavily tattooed' which makes me laugh since I look at a ton of open room. Take it in stride.
I echo this statement. In my college days some friends and I appeared in a pilot and a tv show. Let's just say after editing, etc you really might end up with something different that what you planned. That is not saying this is the case, just check it out.
The thing that kinda blew my mind was just how simple of an idea could work. It also shifted my view of dollars/euros/etc. Same deal, just people "believe" more in USD/EUR/ETC
Welcome to LST.
I would say as far as an artist being out of your league? Never heard of it. If you want to get tattooed by someone just call the shop or stop by.
The question about the imagery is, really it is up to you. While the image might have to be modified to make a good tattoo, I can't see why it couldn't be done. If you want to use this as inspiration, why not sounds like a great idea. I found my favorite tattoos were the ones that I gave a bit of inspiration, and let the tattoo artist be an artist. My least favorite tattoo was the one that was based off a drawing (Dante's Inferno).
As far as questions go, your intro thread is the place for it! Ask away!
Just a friendly reminder, don't try to rack up 10 posts as fast as possible, in attempts to make a new thread. That being said, it does not look like you are trying to do that.
Well NYC has a stupid amount of good artists, some are memebers on LST! I would recommend the following shops:
Thicker than Water
Daredevil
NY Adorned
Invisible NYC
All the shops I feel have killer artists that are pretty diverse and could nail pretty much any tattoo.
