  1. i say work too. i sort of feel like everything else outside of tattoo just sounds awkward, but that's my own personal preference.
  2. well, this here site (ha!) was co-started by Scott Sylvia over at Blackheart Tattoo which is located in SF at Valencia and Duboce, so i would highly recommend checking the shop out. as for good eats, give me a little bit and i'll come up with a list. there's soooo much good food.
  3. i get comments more on the street than from co-workers. usually my co-workers just think my work is "interesting" or "beautiful" (which either is fine). being touched by a stranger is super triggering for me, so i tend to get pretty aggro fairly quickly. and my comment didn't have gender boundaries. i think most people would agree with what i said. objectification sucks.
  4. will you have a car? i can't think of anything off the bat in Palo Alto, but there's plenty of good artists/shops from SF to San Jose (and of course, in the east bay too!). as for record stores, your best bet is to go to SF, though there might be a Searchlight Records in Palo Alto... unless you're vegan, i'll leave the eats to others to suggest haha
  5. i get and understand that side too Mario. and i definitely don't think i'm better than the next person who's coming in to get a tribal armband or a heart with the word mom in it. but at the same time, i recognize that i am actively seeking out individuals based on their artwork, just as i could do with any other form of art, and having work made. i have invested money and time into trying to get work done by certain individuals, and i am actively collecting this work that happens to cover my body. so i'm sorry if my word choice was seen as comment on status, as it wasn't intended to be so. however, i'm not sure that there's a better word to describe who i or many others are. and i, as a client of you Mario, sincerely appreciate that you value every customer that you have, because that's part of what makes you a great artist. and like any good business, the client should be valued and respected, because they are supporting you financially, regardless of how small or big the task they're asking you to do. i just wrote this whole long response, thinking i had gotten to the end of the thread, then realized i hadn't and that everyone had basically said what i wanted to haha. also Pat, i was in no way angry, just sort of annoyed haha.
  6. notice that i used the word "collector", not client. i get how embarrasing it would be to have somone off the street come up to your shop, look through a portfolio, and say "sweet tats bro!" (and annoying). i get it, but at the same time, as discussed in other threads, that is someone who is probably (and this is an assumption) not getting tattooed for the "cool" factor or because it's what people are doing right now, not because they have a deeper attachment or interest in the community, art, or culture itself. while i don't think a serious collector would use some of the words listed above (though some appear to be catching on now), collectors are more interested in these other aspects of tattooing and therefore, have an investment in the community.
  7. well i don't like that this is happening to Scott, but i do agree about the vacaville sentiment.
  8. i'd rather be paid attention to because of my brain, any day, rather than my tattoos.
  9. so collectors aren't a part of the tattoo community? so the money that we give you doesn't count for something? i wrote out a rant because i'm in a terrible mood this moring and feel like spouting off, but i think for the moment i'll just keep shut. anyways, it's just words, and while yes, some of them appeart to be stupid, it's really a matter of taste and personal choice.
  10. should we start calling leg "sleeves" slacks then? trousers? pants? tattoo pants? tat pants? ink pants? SQUID PANTS???
  11. i saw the WM3 tour too, and last year i saw the Circle Jerks in SF play at a warehouse for this weird tattoo/skate fest thing. anyways, they were good, i just feel indifferent about OFF!. i think they're worth seeing once Jinx, but i don't think i'll be buying a ticket for the gilman show coming up.
  12. could be a mild allergic reaction to something in the ink? i get them too, and they tend to be kind of itchy, but i figure there must be trace amounts of nickel or some other material that my body is reacting to.
  13. we know so! or else we'll have to come up to Alaska and kick some shitty tattoo ass!
  14. i've seen these guys a couple of times now, and to be honest, just feel that they're overrated. keith morris is cool and all, but i guess i just don't get the hype. anyone want to clue me in?
  15. basically, you want a half leg sleeve. that's pretty normal.
  16. Mario, you live how many miles away?? at least they'll be there still in October.
  17. just read HBomb's ok!

  18. figured it was better to mention it than not. and sorry i haven't written back! been super busy this last week!

    BEARDS!

Jackson looks 16 when he's shaved... he'll be turning 29 in August.
  20. hey Loch, do you know Hbomb? i don't really know him (met him once) but i know other's who are worried about him. just thought i'd ask and see if you had heard from him since no one else has, and you're kind of in the same circle of obhc friends.

  21. "Tattoos, Piercing, & Hair Colors/Cuts" jesus. here's a link to Tat2 Jimmy's FB page. newbie: go to Chicago Tattoo Co. or you can go to Tat2 Jimmy's then to CTC to get your shit done right, but it'll be an even bigger pain in the ass, and you'll end up spending more money than just getting it done right the first time around. edit: i just looked through T2J's fb gallery and all i can say is wow. i didn't think tattoos that bad still existed outside of garages and apartments.
  22. it was so nice to meet you Hogg! i love that these meet ups feel almost like great family dinners. good stories and lots of laughs.
