no pics but the last three weeks have been about slow cooked collards with tomtoes, onions, garlic, and chilis. sooo fucking good. best made in a cast iron pot on a bbq.

at first thought, sounds like either you're having some gnarly infection, an allergic reaction to the ink, or it's just really bad tattooing. do you have a photo?

That last photo is from the book Bikeriders by Danny Lyon. That photographer is the real fuckin' deal. I saw him lecture once. He is amazing. Also, the song Bikeriders by Lucero is loosely based on that book. so last week there was a groupon deal for laser tattoo removal through Asta Center for Cosmetic & Laser Skin Care. while the price made me tempted to buy in, their website looked a little too sketch for me to really trust their work. it seemed a little like it was too good to be true... did anyone else buy the deal or have heard about their quality of work?

i think i might be back. but i can't get too distracted as this semester is the first one doing "real" science and math. August has been a blast! i saw 3 rattlesnakes, learned how to mist-net and handle bats while camping in Tahoe National Forrest, handled 6 bats (5 on the trip and one last Friday during my volunteer shift at Wildcare), and performed my first necropsy yesterday on a opossum that had been attacked by a dog (or at least i'm guessing that due to the large wound it had). it's all kind of creepy crawly science shit, but it's been life changing and i love it!

Tuesday, unfortunately, does not work for me. I have chem lecture/lab and it goes until 9:15 in east oakland. If I miss two labs, I get an automatic D in the class, and I REALLY need to pass this class with flying colors. I noticed that this thread nor the facebook group hasn't been updated in a while... does anyone need help coordinating/planning? @gougetheeyes, those dates still work for you?

i got an email letting me know that i had a new friend request on here and decided to log on. i guess it's time to update everyone with what's going on in my life. i'm good a lists and there's a lot of stuff going on so here goes: -i left the nursery. i loved working with kittens, but for reason i do not wish to discuss, it was not a healthy place for me to be. i have a new job now as a legal assistant. i kind of like it, but it's crazy sometimes. -my mom has invasive breast cancer. that's probably the biggest thing that's going on right now. it was caught early, but we've already been through two surgeries, and she began chemo last week. it's only once a month, but it lasts until august, and then radiation follows afterwards. her odds are good, but it's going to be a long year. -school is going great. i am taking an environmental management class this semester, and i'm signed up to take a class on bat ecology and conservation this summer, where i will be netting bats, and recording data about them. i have to get my rabies vaccine soon, which i'm a little nervous about. it's also really expensive ($700) so no tattoos for a while. i'm also volunteering at a wildlife rehabilitation center once a week. -Jackson and i moved in together. it's really nice to have him here at the house, but our schedules are completely the opposite. i see him for about 20 minutes each day while awake, unless it's an evening we both have off. that kind of sucks. that's about it. i guess i've just been feeling like i need some time to myself to be able to get through all of this sanely. i feel bad and i know i've let some people down in ways that i never intended too by not finishing things i started. life has been really overwhelming for me over the last 8 months and i keep trying to get back on track, but i'm having a hard time doing so. i just needed to get away for a while.

sometimes it's not so cute. a kitten became very ill over a 12 hour period, and suddenly died on my shift tonight. this is the sad side of my job, though him dying was much better than him crying in agony and having trouble breathing. we've lost two this week, both really little neos, about 2 weeks old and all who are fairly sick with something in their GIT track, could be parasites, could be infection, too young to find out more. started out with 7 and now down to 5. i'm hoping they'll survive through this next week, because at week 3, then we can really get down to what the problem might be. their systems are just too small right now to be able to do more. we can only treat the symptoms and guess at the cause right now.

yeah there's been a lot of kittens, 3 of them who were at my house for 3 weeks. they're really cute, but very smelly, and somewhat stressful. i have a pup now too, Coleslaw, who keeps me very busy.

do you really think this guy gets all that much?

i have two roommates now with full hand tattoos and basically nothing else (ok, one of them has a crappy upper arm tattoo, but that's it). one of them is in a master's program at my old college, the other does not have a job and is drowning in school debt. the one in the master's program has a portrait of her dog on each hand and his name across her knuckles, the other has a v on his right hand, and a gun on his left (v/gun=vegan, get it?). i don't particularly like either tattoo, but the portraits/lettering are better in quality than the v/gun. i don't think of it much now, but it's kind of weird to be the most heavily tattooed person in the house, and the least visibly tattooed person too.

stupid ways i hurt myself usually involves baking cookies... or hot water. recently, it involved hot water and my new pup. she tried scratching her neck while lying dangerously close to the edge of the couch, her back towards the edge. i was sitting next to her with a cup of steaming hot water that had just been poured from the kettle on the stove, and just as i said to her "you're going to fall off the couch" she looked at me like "oh shit!" and fell, but in the process decided that flailing her legs would work as an attempt to keep her balance. my cup was kicked due to the flailing, and hot water landed all over my legs, missing my crotch by mere inches (thank fuckin' god). it's still healing.

Babs and Dari sent me over here. i guess i sort of felt overwhelmed by all the arguing/debating that was happening on here, and on top of that, i had school and homework so i wanted to focus on that.

now it looks like i won't be able to make it to the pre-party either. oh well. c'est la vie.

i just finished season 3 yesterday. it's pretty good. season 2 wasn't as good as the others, but season 3 brought me back in.

i just read this. i always want tomatoes.

@Johnny keep in mind you could spend double or triple of what you originally paid if you don't like the results and have to get it lasered off or covered up. i don't know, but the extra $60-100 for gas and a hotel room is way cheaper than another $300-500 or more to get a tattooed fixed. where in florida do you live? i'm sort of surprised Ursula isn't all over this

well we thought she didn't, but it turns out her sister Honeybear doesn't give a shit more... bad judgement call on our part.
