Something like this? We have a few sheets of this kind of stuff up on the wall at the shop. @spyro

Yeah for now I am just weighing my options, but yeah I definitely want some western influence. Steve Byrne japanese tattoo sounds amazing. I will have to check out Roper stuff, I know Joel, (Jason's Apprentice) just got tattooed by him.

I think tattoos will always be popular, but in different ways and different styles, and being a model is always going to be short lived. I see these people around they have one or two friends that will tattoo them cheap, so they get covered in a year or so, but really don't know much about tattoos or even how to conduct themselves in a tattoo shop because they probably have never been in a real one. I think like anything, you have people that are smart and idiots doing the same thing. If someone wants to do modeling when they are young and they have a few tattoos, fine, but thinking being tattooed is going to be a life long career is a little far fetched. I can't see the pretty boy and pinup models going the side show/freak show route that some have managed to carve out a modest living doing.

I can't imagine having that many tattoos at age 22. I had no money when I was that age for one and I spent from 25-33 getting tattooed very regularly and have not run out of room, nor have i tattooed my face, hands, or neck. My prediction he will go the route of the reformed white supremacist and have it all removed by let's say age 28. Modeling career can only last so long and the popularity of tattoos fluctuates between generations, so I can imagine being a former tattoo model with no marketable skills be a very lucrative future. On the other hand I can't give the ladies a pass either. I think every third girl in Portland is a tattoo model or in beauty school, or a tattooed model in beauty school that does roller derby on the side. I don't know what the future brings for them either.

I have an appointment on Feb 4th, I am not going to say who because he is not that well known, but from the tattoos I've seen him do and the people he has tattooed around and who have tattooed him, I think I might have found my guy for Japanese. I am just having him start on the back of my leg and leaving my rib for what I talked about earlier in the thread. Still not decided which route to go, but did go back and revisited Jason Kundell's stuff yesterday at his shop, those guys are always very hospitable when I stop in. Like I said I like his stuff for sure, but he does everything so big I feel like the space I would have to give him to do a dragon would be the size he normally does one claw in. He seems to love to go big and the finished product certainly has quite the impact. Needless to say I got a feel for how long he is booked out, so I am going to meet with Dan when he comes into town later this month and see what his situation is and go from there.

Is there anywhere worth getting tattooed at in Boston?
David Flores replied to rozone's topic in Tattoo Advice
If you live in the same city as a shop, you really should just stop in for a consult. Emails really are for people who are coming from out of town, and they could possibly get the idea that you aren't that serious about getting tattooed if you aren't willing to come in person. Calling is a little bit better, but ultimately at some point you will have to stop in anyway so might as well be right off the bat. Not trying to bust balls just trying to give perspective.- 31 replies

Hey take it easy man, there was no ketchup involved so I should get a pass. Second the least they could do is have munchies available, then I would be okay with it.

I totally found a place in Portland that is doing the same thing, but they will remain nameless for obvious reasons, but as soon as you walk in it's pretty obvious. Black lights, Bob Marley, comfy couches, but one of the best tap lists I've seen in a bit and cheap prices. I got the heads up from a friend of mine who lives down the street. - - - Updated - - - I totally found a place in Portland that is doing the same thing, but they will remain nameless for obvious reasons, but as soon as you walk in it's pretty obvious. Franklin Pierce had full sleeves depicting Greek mythological figures fighting dragons. He had an affinity for both Greek mythology and Asian cultures, so he let his brother-in-law, Obadiah Appleton practice his new trade. Unfortunately for Pierce, Obadiah's tattoo work was as bad as his previous career as a failed wagon builder. Pierce therefore always wore sleeves and threatened the life of anyone making a portrait if they even suggested depicting the tattoos. Also, Dwight Eisenhower has an ace of spades on his right butt cheek. I don't know if any of this is true, but I found it quite amusing.

I think I would have to get something weird from Rassier too, give him a few ideas and ask him to make some one of his totems.

Southwest flies direct to San Jose, Probably a four hour plane ride and you would be there. Getting there is the easy part regardless of where you are in the country. It's actually securing time and hoping that can work with my work schedule and my wife's. I am not opposed to getting something small by hand, but don't think I would be down to get a whole rib panel done that way. I admire the tradition and the craftsmanship, but there is a reason most tattooing is done by machine. Anyhow after I little more thought and realizing I can fly anywhere, I might toy with the idea of travel to Texas as my wife says she would want to visit Austin anyway, but ultimately it will be about which tattooer is most flexible and available at this point as I feel like anyone I will be seeking out is going to be equal as far as skill.

That was my thought about if I had to travel to Bay Area to see about one of those guys and I have a few others in mind Kahill Rintye for one. I guess we will see. If Dan will tattoo me in Portland I just might have him do it, but if I have to travel then I will try to see who I can book

Yeah i am friends with a few guys at his shop. I like his stuff, but not exactly what I am looking for. I have like five friends that have backpieces in progress and recently got to look at all his studies for his backpieces in progress. I would say he is a little too fancy for me, but no doubt dude is doing some unreal stuff.

Yeah I don't know if it will last or not, but who knows. - - - Updated - - - I can relate, I think anyone who is serious about getting tattooed will eventually seek out the people's work in which they desire. I got put on Dan Gilsdorf's list here in Portland last year, but was able to just go down and get tattooed in bay area instead of waiting for my turn. I don't even think he is taking new people on in Portland right now,but I know the guy who told me to go get on the list is still waiting for his tattoo, or given up I'm not really sure. I would really like to get either a rib panel or the whole back of my thighs ass to back of knee done in Japanese style. I really don't have any japanese tattoos but clearly am a fan, but I am pretty particular about how I want it to look and don't know anyone here in Portland who does that kind of stuff in the style I want. I have seen enough of Gilsdorf to know he could do it, but hence my previous paragraph and if I go to SF there are other guys who do it, so either way it probably will mean trips to SF and a wait, so we will see how I feel next year.
-
In Portland it's unheard of. You might have like a couple months wait if you book with some of the guys from Atlas, but from what people say, they get a lot of flakes and usually people get called within a couple weeks. I have never waited more than a week to get tattooed here. I have booked appointments out three months, but that is only because that was when I was traveling to that city. Again not hating the player,as they used to say, just seems like such a weird concept.

Starts of Texas convention
David Flores replied to lving4today's topic in LST Get Togethers & Tattoo Conventions
Yep that's him. Seth only had that shop for a short time till he sold it, so Mike has moved around a little since then. He was with Artwork Rebels till last June. -
Rock of Ages has so many good guest spots coming up, would be a good time to live in Austin.

My Buddy Mike Volakakis from Oddball Tattooery here in Portland will be there. It's his first time in Texas. Mike puts on clean tattoos and is super efficient. Sometimes it feels like the needle never leaves your skin, like he is think ten lines ahead. Anyhow here is a couple of pics of tattoos. His instagram handle is @mikev1974 -
She is at a place called Sacred Heart Studio, but is moving to Old Crow Parlor at beginning of February. She did the monkey I use as my Avatar. She is a good tattooer, she can make things look real soft when needed, but other times does tattoos that look tough as shit. I haven't been to Texas, but I was bummed when she moved from Chicago.

http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/initiation/3281-hello-texas-can-i-get-covered-page2.html We had a similar thread asking about Houston tattooers, but it ended up just talking about people in Austin.. Two people I know are Lana Gooding and Corey Rodgers. Too lazy to post links but I think corey is at 713 and not sure what shop Lana is at, think she is moving shops right now. Had to look up the people you mentioned as your favorites, and yeah you are right not my cup of tea, but I like the Gene Coffey has chose to get a japanese sleeve on himself. Not busting balls think it's funny when guys who do funky style want to have more traditional styles tattooed on them.

@steve1461686340 no big deal, but I find that using facebook format I can't click on the forum tab it sends me to this page. http://www.facebook.com/forum/ I can access browse the forum by clicking on the what's new tab or activity stream, but can't see the forum home page if I do it this way. This has been happening for a couple days, I thought I would see if it would run it's course, but even after update not much has changed.

For TATTOOERS ONLY, what's your biggest pet peeve?
David Flores replied to dari's topic in Crazy Tattoo Stories
We put in a dummy rail and waist high saloon doors to make a clear boundary for customers, but every once and awhile someone just walks right in like they live there. I always try to be polite about it but let people know that's not how we do things. Funny there are some things we are stricter than others and keeping people out of the tattoo area is top of the list. Congrats on new position. It's a great journey. Working in a shop will just make you love tattoos more. Sometimes I forget that despite all the annoyances, the tattoo shop really is the happiest place on earth.- 158 replies

I remember seeing a post on Instagram by Chad showing all his stuff in storage and how it wouldn't be that way for long, hinting he would be staying in one place for awhile soon. I don't know if I believe it, but that is the story. 2 years is crazy long to wait. I don't understand why you would even have your books open if you were that far booked. I don't think there is a person alive that I would wait 2 years to get tattooed by, unless maybe if Rollo and Erik Maaske came back from the dead. But no fault to him, nothing wrong with putting on good tattoos and being popular, just don't understand how it gets like that. This thread got me thinking I should get a Gorilla tattoo, then I remember I already have one, hate when that happens.
